Yes its fine. If the baby is otherwise well, its okay. As long as the baby is passing urine throughout the day, ie 6-8 times diapers are being changed or if using cotton nappies. They are being changed 8-10 times.

15 months old children really need parents a lot as a support while learning new things or while socializing because everything is new for them. Both the parents should spend time with him and visit places like parks, toy libraries so that he gets exposed to outer world. Be strict regarding tv watching because it will be no interaction phase. He will not learn communication skills only by watching tv. He needs to be exposed to outer world may be by books, toys some interesting games where he has to use his brain according to his age and capability. Do not create stress for him. Relax and approach him confidently. Have patience.

It appears more and more from the brief that you have shared that she may be going through her ‘terrible twos’. For your information, it is at two years that children discover that they are no longer the center of the world, and it upsets them so that they want to test boundaries to see how much you will tolerate her before she either makes you reject her or she learns to control her urges and learns that you will have needs to be met too sometimes, and only after that her needs will be met: this is a very important learning she must achieve around this age: Sounds like she is not going through that phase happily. In fact she is winning this battle and ruling over you! I suggest that you give her a lot of physical contact and enjoy her company. She needs to understand that whatever happens you will love her. I hope you have taken her for all the necessary medical checks to rule out any other cause. In the meantime there are some questions that I would love answered, or for you to take him to a child psychiatrist, if there are any disturbing events. My questions: Was the conception normal? Was there a miscarriage or abortion before this child was born or after? How was the nine months of pregnancy for the mother i.e. was she under any kind of stress? Was the pregnancy normal? Was there any threat to the pregnancy? Was she on any medication? Was there any need for supplements? What was her emotional condition? Did she like the pregnancy? Was she happy during and about the pregnancy? Did she get good support from her husband? Was the delivery normal and on the due date? How long was she breast fed? Did she have any problems with bedwetting etc.? This information will help even a counselor to bring further insight into this problem. If some of these questions raise any serious concerns, you can help the child resolve it with some professional help from a child counselor. You are only getting into a competition with this child and she is winning happily but at your misery. So back off a bit and just give her boundaries and only then do you need to get into the act, if there is non-compliance. Then too do not use violence but negotiate with her (since she is sounding like a knowing child), and give her consequences, which are different from punishments. Confront the behavior and never, ever, reject the child/personality. Also do not show any loss of control and be composed when dealing with her. Focus on her positives and mildly confront the aggression: it makes no sense to fight fire with fire i.e. her aggression with yours!!! You are provoking her rebelliousness and this may lead to later repercussions that will be pretty unsavory. There is a very old book I remember reading entitled, ‘Talk so that kids will listen, and listen so that kids will talk’. Unfortunately I have forgotten the author. If you can find that book, it will help you tremendously. At the play group, please check if there are any unusual behaviors and whether someone is bullying her.

Dear Lybrate user You have not mentioned the duration of watering from eyes. If it is since long, say since age of 2 months she might have unopened tear passage. If there is no simultaneous infection massage over lacrimal sac would help opening the passage. Please consult nearby ophthalmologist to learn the proper technique of massage. If massage is being performed for more than 2 months and passage is still blocked, she might require probing- a short OT procedure by ophthalmologist to open it. However, if there is no concurrent infection, you may wait for 2 months with due precautions regarding hygiene. If it is of recent origin, there may be functional block or some other reason. However, I stongly recommend you to consult the ophthalmologist as early as possible and get thorough examination and diagnosis. Sometimes watering is due to some serious unidentified lesion in eye. As far as teeth eruption is concerned, please consult nearby dentist.

My baby boy is 1 1/2 month old. Which oil is best for baby's massage for his fair skin tone.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Zirakpur
My baby boy is 1 1/2 month old. Which oil is best for baby's massage for his fair skin tone.
Using an oil can make massage easier for you and more relaxing for your baby. Everyone seems to have an opinion on which oil is best for baby massage. Some parents favor baby mineral oils, while others choose a particular vegetable oil. Some oils are thought to be more easily absorbed into skin. You may find massage easier with an oil that soaks in, or you may prefer one that stays more slippery on your baby's skin. Your decision about what to use also depends on your baby's skin. If your baby has eczema, it is better to use her medical emollient cream or ointment. There are some oils or creams that it's best not to use, whether or not your baby has eczema. These are: mustard oil, because it has a toxic effect on the skin barrier, causing irritation and potential damage to delicate baby skin. Unrefined peanut oil, because the proteins it contains may sensitise your baby to an allergic reaction to peanuts or cause a reaction on your baby's skin. It's also best not to use refined peanut oil. Although it's unlikely to cause a problem, refined oil may be cross-contaminated with unrefined oil. Aqueous cream, because it contains a harsh detergent called sodium lauryl sulfate that may irritate your baby's skin and damage her skin barrier vegetable oils that are high in linoleic acid may be gentler on your baby's skin. Linoleic acid is an essential fatty acid that helps to protect the barrier element of your baby's skin. Vegetable oils that usually contain high levels of linoleic acid include: sunflower oil grapeseed oil if your baby has dry or broken skin, or atopic eczema, avoid vegetable oils that are higher in another type of fatty acid called oleic acid. Vegetable oils high in oleic acid may be harsher on your baby's skin than vegetable oils rich in linoleic acid or baby mineral oils. Olive oil is high in oleic acid. One study on adults found that, compared with sunflower seed oil, using olive oil on the skin damaged the skin barrier. It caused mild redness even when there was no history of sensitive skin. Oleic acid can make some layers of your baby's skin more permeable. This permeability could help oil and water to be absorbed into your baby's skin. But it could also mean that oil and water is lost, rather than trapped in. So if your baby's skin is already dry and tender, then oleic acid could increase moisture loss from it, which causes dry skin.
