Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold).

I am 25 years old. I have back pain due to long bike drives every day. What should I do?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned backache as your problem. If you have only localized backache with no other associated symptoms like radiating leg pain, numbness, paresthesias etc, and no systemic symptoms like fever, loss of appetite, loss of weight etc, my advice to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or even tab paracetamol which suits you - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied 3-4 times in a day - analgesic spray for local application like dynapar qps spray can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc if you do not improve in 2-3 weeks with this conservative management, we will need to evaluate you further in form of dynamic x rays to look for any instability as a cause for pain and some blood investigations to rule out any deficiencies etc. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards

There's a pain in the joint of my toe. I have done an Xray and there's no bone issues. Could it be related to gout?

M Ch. Ortho, M.S Orthopedics, M.B.B.S

Hi thanks for the query. From the complaints you had described the reason for the pain in the toe could be due to injury or some times due to gout. If there is no history of injury, it is better to get uric acid test and consult your local orthopedician.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Can you kindly tell me whether you had any bony injury at the time of initial injury? also there are many causes of pain in lower back region. It can be due to faulty posture, related to weak muscles, issues with intervertebral disc, narrowing of spinal canal, any bony instability besides many other, so accurate diagnosis is the key to proper management of the condition. I would also like to ask you if it is associated with any leg pain or any other neurological symptoms like numbness, paraesthesias (electrical shock like abnormal sensations) or any weakness in limbs. Please also tell me about any associated symptoms like fever, weight loss etc. What medications you generally take and what has been your treatment history till now for existing problem. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

I am a heavy drinker. Now I want to get rid of this and want my health back. Symptoms are sweating more than normal, loss of appetite, dramatic weight loss, tingling and numbness in tips of fingers and toes, reddish palm and foots, some times shaky dont even drink water with one hand, felling cold in ac room. Please help.

MBBS, DPM, DNB (PSYCHIATRY)
Psychiatrist, Delhi
Dear, alcohol dependence syndrome (addiction) is a serious condition which can cause harm to various organs of the body including brain and nervous system. The symptoms like tingling and numbness and shaky hands are due to peripheral neuropathy and weakness of the nervous system. Whereas loss of apetite and wt loss are due to liver and git dysfunction. Lot of time people believe addictions are just bad habits which can be left at anytime with some wiilpower. And only later they realise that its not as easy as it sounds plus it becomes alarmingly dangerous in later stages of addiction. Kindly consult a psychiatrist as soon as possible for complete evaluation and treatment. You may also have to consult a liver specialist if your suffering from jaundice or liver dysfunction. Regards, Dr. Vishal chhabra.

I am feeling that I am suffering from mild kyphosis. What I have to do please explain about any devices available to treat kyphosis.please help .

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Postural kyphosis can usually be treated with physical therapy to help strengthen the muscles of your back and correct your posture. Mild pain relievers and antiinflammatory medications can also help with symptoms. These curves do not continue to worsen with time or lead to more serious complications. Surgery is not needed for postural kyphosis.
