I have been smoking cigarette for some 3-4 months and on an average 3 cigarette per day. Now after I smoke, I get a feeling as if m gonna puke BuT it wont happen n I feel very bad in chest. Are my lungs too spoiled. I what should I do? How can I quite smoking?

MBBS, cc USG
General Physician, Noida
This is very good step you have taken for yourself by deciding you want to quit smoking I am giving you some health tips that will certainly help you to quit smoking 1. As you have decided to quit smoking this is first and most important step now we have to concentrate on gradual decreasing number of cigarettes/bidis and I am giving you some changes to your lifestyle you can make that may help you resist the temptation . And these changes are very easy to do 2. Change in Diet: some foods, including meat, make cigarettes more satisfying. And food like fruit and vegetables, cheese, Milk, dahi, and other home made vegetarian food with low salt and spices make cigarettes taste terrible. Drinks, alcohol, cola, tea and coffee all make cigarettes taste better. So drink more water and juice. Also you can switch from wine to a vodka and tomato juice), affects their need to reach for a cigarette. 3. Physical exercise : Even a five-minute walk or stretch) cuts cravings and help brain to produce anti-craving chemicals. 4. Make a nonsmoking friends: this is one of the most important step 5. There ar Nicotine replacement therapy available in form of patches, tablets, lozenges, gum and a nasal spray. This therapy also help to quit smoking and neutralizing craving episode 6. Education about adverse effect also encourage us to quit smoking like it causes heart attacks, mouth cancer, lung cancer so better to quit as soon as possible 7. You can taper of numbers of cigarette/ Bidis gradually like if you take 10 cigarettes per day reduce it to 8-9 in a day for 3-4 days than 7-8 in next 3-4 days gradually you can decrease no upto 1-2 cigarette per day and finally quit it completely 8. And one other important thing if you smoke one cigarette in half hour than you can prolong this interval like you can take 1-2 hours for one cigarette so that gradually it can be quit.

do you have family history of asthama? the right medications for you depend on a number of things, including your age, your symptoms, your breathing triggers and what seems to work best to keep your breathlessness under control. Preventive, long-term control medications reduce the inflammation in your airways that leads to symptoms. Quick-relief inhalers (bronchodilators) quickly open swollen airways that are limiting breathing. In some cases, allergy medications are necessary. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

Thyroid has nothing to do with your sinus problem. Get your X ray PNS and CTscan if require. Also endoscopy of nose which will decide line of treatment, medical or surgical.

All tests are negative like tb and pneumonia and pft all is negative and I am living completely normal life with no other symptoms only this cough is there alll day. What should I do? LCPS, BAM&S

Whooping cough is a serious disease though it's rarely found. Most of indian population is vaccinated through triple vaccine. So you probably are suffering from persistent cough. Check eosinofil count. Allergy is another cause that needs separate treatment. Find a good physician.

You need to undergo vaman karma in panchakarma treatment, if you want complete relief. Otherwise there are many medicines like chitrak haritaki avaleh, anu tailam etc. Which will keep symptoms in check.

What is the symptom of asthma? And what should I do when I know a sthama attacked me? please and me any suggestion.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
The most common signs of asthma are: Coughing, especially at night, during exercise or when laughing. Difficulty breathing. Chest tightness. Shortness of breath. Wheezing (a whistling or squeaky sound in your chest when breathing, especially when exhaling) Montemac L is a controlled medicine for allergic asthma. If you are able to remain symptom free by using it daily, I would suggest you to continue it for at least 3 months continuously. I would suggest you to consult an Allergist-Immunologist who will suggest you allergy testing. This will help you identify substances causing symptoms to you as well as precautions regarding how to avoid them. Also, an Allergist may suggest you specific allergen immunotherapy depending upon the results of allergy testing, which may improve your allergy symptoms. Please try to avoid exposure to smoke, dusts and air pollution as much as possible. Also please do not smoke if you are a smoker. A nutritive diet rich in vitamins & minerals including anti-oxidants is very important to support immune system. I would also suggest you regular breathing exercises which help you in a long run.

Dear, Lybrate-user, I reviewed your query with the given facts. Being a patient with Chronic ?Allergic? Or other causes of Asthma, I would like to rule out causes for allergic asthma, by detailed history taking/and clinical reviews for at least 1-2 interactions online at My Lybrate clinic. The other causes needs to be ruled out with private appointment on My Lybrate clinic by prior enquiry for it. Advise on medicines, diet, would be given only after detailed work up of your case. So I would suggest you to book a private appointment with Me on Lybrate for private consultation, as it needs detailed study before any tests and drugs are given to you. I hope to reduce your dependence on these medicines, which have temporary and symptomatic reliefs. I would suggest you to be under guidance of Me, to achieve full and effective diagnosis and treatment plans. I would plan to keep you away from creating any dependence as the case is chronic, which could other wise would lead to side effects from chronic use of these and other advanced medicines for anti-asthmatic effects. Hope this would resolve your current anxiety.
