Sir I am facing problem of ear. Everyday I feel that my ear is blocked. Earlier it was with my left ear but now it is going in right ear also. I had earlier consult a ENT specialist about it and he has prescribed me 'Sinomet nasal drops and Histacare tablet saying it was due to cold. Also even if I have no cold, I feel my nose is somehow blocked. I am facing these problem from last 3-4 month. What should I do?

General Physician,
Dear lybrate-user, Vapours is a brilliant and easiest therapy without any side effects. You can also try to make a saturated solution of sodium chloride and use it in each nostril. You should recover sooner with this. Happy to help! Please feel free to talk.

Surgery is the only curative option for cholesteatoma. But before that you need to get a ct scan done (hrct temporal bone) to see the extent of disease. Send me the report.

Hi lybrate-user. Please elaborate your complaints. Are you having sore throat also along with ear pain. And is fever also there. Pls don't put oil in your ear everytime you have ear pain. Because it can be due to varied reasons. Ear infection. Hole in the ear drum. Serious ear disease etc. So I would strongly suggest you visit an ent surgeon for the same. As all ear pain case are not due to wax.

I am having head ache at times at back side of my head. Had sinus problems before and surgery was done years ago. Can you please help with this.

MBBS, MD - Anaesthesiology, FIPM
Pain Management Specialist, Pune
Pain at backside of head is generally due to problem in cervical spine (spine of neck). 1. Intervertebral disc prolapse in cervical spine. 2. Neck muscle strain. 3. Occipital neuralgia: entrapment of nerves at back of head. Diagnosis can be made by detailed symptoms of patient and examination findings. Mri cervical spine may be needed to confirm the diagnosis. Follow these tips to get relief; 1. Take simple analgesics like paracetamol or ibuprofen round the clock for 4 to 5 days. 2. Apply warm water bag on neck if you find it soothing. 3. Do neck stretching exercises after pain is relieved. 4. Maintain good posture during work or reading to relieve neck strain. Avoid reading or computer work with neck bent. Keep text books at eye level. 5. Consult a pain specialist to get relief from severe pain with injection known as occipital nerve block at back of head. If problem is persistent you need to consult again.

Ya I consult my doc they check with there instrument. There was a tear. He told me that always put cotton in ear. Now its paining i am taking medicines with vitamin antibiotic and painkiller. But how much time it will take to get recover? Please advice..

MS - ENT, DNB (ENT), Fellow of Academy of General Education (FAGE), MBA (Healthcare), DIPLOMA IN LAWS APPLICABLE IN MEDICAL PRACTICE, MNAMS ENT

I think you are having perforated ear drum. Treatment depends on how big is the tear. If its small<20%, there is a chance it will heal by itself, if you take proper precautions. But if the tear/perforation is bigger, you will require repair of ear drum (tympanoplasty).

I'm 33 years male from delhi one year back I had done deviated nasal septum surgery. I was suffering left side nose blocked problem after surgery my left nose is open but during sleep one side nose is closed or left side or is right side and bcoz of that I can't sleep deeply. I had use all nasal spray for short time and all anti histamine but I didn't got any benefit. I had talk to ENT Dr. about nasal septoplasty but they said to me is not hundred percent solution of my problem bcoz mostly nasal surgery are bound again. I am specially feel that problem in cold season or in air conditioner in warm season. I m very much desperate to my condition. L am before sleep always carry a water bottle near to my bed with me for dry mouth. Bcuz one side nose blocked I breathing through mouth and I wake-up between sleep and drinking water 4 to 5 times. That's happening with me since 5 years. Plzz suggest me what I do next for my nasal congestion during sleep?

MBBS, M.S. (ENT)
ENT Specialist, Pune
Hi, thank you for writing in. 1. These symptoms are due to nasal turbinate hypertrophy. 2. Since you have taken medical therapy and had a septoplasty, get a plain ct pns (para nasal sinuses) done and share the images. 3. At the same sitting get a plain ct pns with 1 mm coronal, axial and sagittal views pre and post decongestion with nasal decongestant drops (0.1 % xylometazoline). After the first scan use 5-8 drops of otrivin nasal drops in both the nostrils. Wait 15 minutes by the clock and re - scan. Print and compare the images with each set and with any change in your symptoms (improvement in nasal patency). 4. For hypertrophy of the nasal turbinates, radiofrequency or coblation works well. Thus should reduce your symptoms. Regards.

This is neuralgic condition, get your opg done for styloid process, tell your radiologist to mention the size of styloid process, the enlargement of styloid causes pain in ear while eating.

There is a pain in some nerve/muscle in and around my right side of jaw joint near ear. It was preceded by slight headache for two days. This pain extends into the inner right ear also. Initially, I apprehended it to be wisdom tooth but its just an apprehension. There is no pain in the Gums, though. It hurts in attempting to open the full jaw and chewing food. And yes, I keep up regular brushing.
