The full form is Polycystic Ovarian Disease or the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. It is very common in females. It is associated with symptom complex of delayed cycles, acne on the face or facial hair, hormonal imbalance, obesity. These are the common symptoms which come across. The treatment can be done in both the situations when one is wanting a pregnancy or one is not wanting the pregnancy or contraceptive advice also required in PCOD patients. In PCOD the ultrasound normally shows small cysts in the ovary and these small cysts can be dealt with by hormonal medicines. Otherwise, yoga, exercise, sugar restricted diet- these are also part of the treatment of PCOD patients. You can contact a gynecologist, you can visit me and take advice. We will explain the details to you. Some hormonal tests, lipid profile etc., all these may be required to come to a definite diagnosis and to treat it. There is nothing to worry about.
