Umesh has little bit large belly so what to do to decrease the size of belly & which type of breakfast is good for diabetic as he is diabetic.

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)
Endocrinologist, Delhi
Check out on the internet for a low glycemic index diet. Glycemic index is speed at which the sugar rises in blood after taking a food item in comparison to plain sugar. High glycemic index foods like corn flakes are to avoided in diabetics. For diabetics and the people who want to loose weight - breakfast is the most important and most abundant meal of the day. Dinner is the lightest and most sparse meal.

M.sc - Nutrition Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Delhi
Hi Mr. Lybrate-user, first of all I would like to tell you that if you are skipping your meal, it is more dangerous for you so its not the matter of amount you are taking its the matter of quality what you are taking. Take sufficient amount of fiber in your diet with the help of lots of fruits & vegetables. Take 2 major meals (breakfast & lunch) & 2-3 small meal/ snacks. At least 4-5 meal of fruits & vegetables you should take in a day. Do regular walk/ exercise/ skipping/ jogging/ running/ skipping/ yoga etc whatever you like.

My mom is a patient of high bp and diabetes and she felt weak always and I want to confirm about some diet products for daily consumption which suits her body and make her feel healthy and energetic so please help me for this. I will be really thankful to you.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. Lybrate-user, first thing is diabetes has to be controlled effectively so also the bp. If blood sugar is high, there is a regular loss of glucose through urine. This leads to weakness. She should aim to achieve fasting sugar closer to 100 mg and pp around 150 to 160 mg and hba1c% <7. Bp should be 130 / 80 mm hg. If this is done generally tiredness and weakness do not remain. Diet has to be based on ideal body weight (58 kgs), present sugar levels and extent of daily exercise. Information about present dietary intake also is necessary. The steps to be followed are: avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. Avoid sweetened aerated drinks, high fat items like cheese, processed fried foods and red meat, ghee and butter. She should consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads. Permitted fruits about 100 g a day can be taken.

I am 18 and my hairs above the forehead are falling, the hairfall from the starting point of my head is increasing, how could I prevent hairfall. Can I use livon hair gainer at this age, would it be useful. If yes then how can I use it and what are its adv and disadvantages?

BAMS
Ayurveda, Ambala
Follow these best methods for treatment of hair fall • Add protein containing items in your foods for healthy hair growth such as take a bowl of cereal daily and a glass of milk or 100 gm cheese or 1-2 eggs.. • Stress is one of the main cause of hair fall. To reduce hairfall, Practice Yogasana like SHIRSHASANA and SARWANGASANA only under the guidance of Expert. • you can use MAHABHRINGRAJ TEL of BAIDYANATH COMPANY and apply it 3 times in a week massage your scalp for 10 to 15 minutes daily. It increases blood circulation in your scalp and enhances hair growth. • Avoid the excess use of products such as hair colours or shampoo as they cause destruction of hair follicles. * Take Vitamin-E rich foods like dry fruits (Almonds, Pista etc) daily. * Apply the egg yolk to the scalp atleast once a week. It gives nourishment to hair root and enhances hair growth.

India is the capital for diabetes mellitus (sugar) in the world. So no need to be shocked or worried about it. It is only a metabilic disorder. If you understand it in a scientific way and modify your lifestyle accordingly, it is no more a problem. The disease can not be cured. But can be kept under control and escape from its ill effects by obeying the following 3 mantras; 1. Proer diet 2. Brisk walking everyday for 50 minutes at a stretch 3. Taking tablets prescribed by a qualified doctor and fllow-up periodically. When compared to the ill effects of uncontrolled blood sugar for a prolonged period, the side-effects of antidiabetic drugs are very very negligible. Moreover, the recent antidiabetic medicines are safer than the older ones. Get an appointment of a diabetologist immediately.

Hi. There are four main factors which causes acne: Oil production Dead skin cells Clogged pores Bacteria Factors that may worsen the acne: Androgen hormones, certain medications (drugs containing corticosteroids, androgens or lithium can worsen acne), dietary factors, including dairy products and carbohydrate-rich foods — such as bread, bagels and chips — may trigger acne and Stress can make acne worse. Management: Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i.e., cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Medication: You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day (and for local application as well) and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 20 days.
