How To Combat Lifestyle Diseases Like Diabetes And Hypertension?

MBBS, MD - General Medicine
General Physician, Gurgaon
How To Combat Lifestyle Diseases Like Diabetes And Hypertension?

There are some diseases which a person can get affected by due to no fault of theirs, at all. And then, there are lifestyle diseases for which a person is solely responsible. So what can be done in order to fight lifestyle diseases like hypertension and diabetes, which can cause more than a fair amount of trouble?

The most important thing to keep in mind when an individual is battling a lifestyle disease is the diet of the person. Even for someone who has not had the misfortune of being affected by such a disease, the general level of health has a lot to do with what is eaten and drunk. One of the first things one should do is to eliminate the unhealthy fats (also known as saturated fats and trans-fats) that may be a part of one’s diet and replace them with more healthy fats. For instance, chips and other oily food need to be replaced with unsaturated fats. Omega 3 fatty acids are also good for the body, if consumed in a reasonable quantity. One of the best sources for Omega 3 is fish.

One of the ways to determine if a person is at risk is by checking if the waist size of an individual is larger than what it should be. In the case of men, if the waist size is more than 40 inches, it means he may be at significant risk. On the other hand, when it comes to women, the waist size should not exceed 35 inches.

A lot of people do try and eat food which is more nutritious. While this is a very good and recommended practice, the pitfall comes by way of not keeping track of what is eaten. So, it is always a good idea to keep a food diary. Not only does this increase the chances of a person sticking to a beneficial diet, but also it provides a record, which can be checked to measure the intake of salt, sugar and fat. This is important since salt often becomes a major cause leading to lifestyle diseases. So, there should be no added salt to meals once they are prepared. Instead of using salt, herbs can add a wonderful flavour to your meals. Similarly, excess consumption of sugar or fat is also not beneficial in the long run. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a General Physician.

Diet has a major role in the health of the stomach and gastrointestinal system. The only way to correct it is by having a balanced diet rich in vegetables and fibre rich foods. Avoid fast foods, junk food and fried foods.

There is no cure for herpes. Antiviral medications can, however, prevent or shorten outbreaks during the period of time the person takes the medication. In addition, daily suppressive therapy (i.e. Daily use of antiviral medication) for herpes can reduce the likelihood of transmission to partners. You have to show a dermatologist.

Dark spots can be due to itching but basic problem is your facial skin allergy problem which leads to itching on your face------------------ A quick and easy solution is lemon juice. Lemons have vitamin C that can lighten dark spots on your face. It’s easy to apply. 1.Put some fresh lemon juice on a cotton ball and rub it directly on the affected skin area. 2.Allow it to dry and then wash it off with plain water. 3.Continue applying this dark spot removal home remedy for at least two weeks to get the desired result. If you have delicate or sensitive skin, you can dilute the lemon juice with plain water, rosewater, or honey. You can also use lime juice to get rid of black spots, applying it in the same manner as described above. Homoeopathic meddicine--------------- FORMULA-D (Bakson) Chew 1 tab 3 times daily-------------------------- BLOOME No.-201 soap (BIOFORCE) Apply locally--------------------

THE DEVASTATING ALLERGY AND ITS MULTITUDE OF PROBLEMS.

The word allergy is so commonly used to denote intolerance to any substance and or climate or anything under the sun. People often use it without being really aware of the wide array of allergy manifestations inside and outside the human body.

The commonest manifestation of allergy as popularly referred to is, sneezing and cough on exposure to cold weather and dust. There are various other forms in which allergy to anything can ransack the human body. One Such example is COW’S milk protein intolerance (CMPI) in babies. The wheezing (breathlessness) respiration drives people to a doctor. An undercurrent infection, viral or bacterial can worsen the wheezing that is broadly classified as hyper reactive airway disease. Systemic treatment with antibiotics as appropriate, bronchodilators and a class of drugs that classify as preventers go a long way in controlling wheezing (asthma as popularly called)

I'm 22 years old. I've been smoking for 6 months. When I started smoking, I used to smoke 10 cigarettes in a day. 1 month ago I started smoking 2 cigarettes a day. 2 weeks ago I was having liquor on a friend's birthday (I drink occasionally) after that we had vaang with malai kulfi. First 1 hour I was ok but then when I got back home, I started feeling suffocated and also started vomiting, feeling weak, legs started shaking, chest pain etc. I took pankreoflat after that and PAN40 and everything came back to normal. Next day I was alright and had home made breakfast, lunch, dinner and didn't smoke. 2 days later I had pizza and I felt uneasy. It felt like something stuck inside my chest. I was shocked but it got stopped after few hours of rest. From then on I started taking home made food and take green tea twice in a day and drink lots of water. But sometimes I feel like the food is not going down , it gets stuck somewhere in chest. I also feel chest pain in the morning. Is this digestion problem or lungs problem and what should I do now?

Heavy, spicy, or fat-rich foods may worsen motion sickness Avoiding strong food odors may also help prevent nausea. Try to choose a seat where you will experience the least motion. The middle of an airplane over the wing is the calmest area of an airplane. Do not sit facing backwards from your direction of travel. Sit in the front seat of a car. Do not read while traveling if you are prone to motion sickness. Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome

'Metabolic' are the biochemical processes that are involved in the normal functioning of your body. Risk factors are common traits, habits or conditions that raise your risk of developing a disease. Metabolic syndrome is the term used for a group of factors that increase your risk of developing the cardiac diseases and other health issues, like stroke and diabetes. Metabolic syndrome is becoming a prevalent disorder due to a sharp rise in the rate of obesity among adults. Metabolic syndrome may soon overtake smoking as the dominant risk factor responsible for heart disorders.

The following are some of the dominant symptoms of metabolic syndrome:

  1. Abdominal obesity
  2. A high level of Triglyceride( 150 and higher)
  3. A lowered level of HDL (good cholesterol)
  4. Blood pressure of 130/85 and above
  5. Increased level of blood sugar (fasting) of 110 or more

It is not impossible to prevent the onset of metabolic syndrome. Slight lifestyle alterations can help to delay the onset of the disorder. In order to control metabolic syndrome effectively, you need to require long term dedication towards your health.

The following are some tips that may help you to control your metabolic syndrome:

  1. Lead an active life: Studies suggest that if you lead an active life, you run a lower risk of developing metabolic syndrome. If you exercise on a regular basis and participate in physical activities, it will help you to reduce your blood pressure level. Active lifestyle is also known to improve your insulin sensitivity, which will help you to control your metabolic syndrome effectively.
  2. Healthy diet: A healthy and balanced diet that comprises of fresh leafy vegetables, seasonal fruits and whole grains carbohydrates is good for your overall health and helps to prevent or slow down the onset of metabolic syndrome.
  3. Drink in moderation: A glass of wine on a daily basis is beneficial for your health. According to recent studies, moderate intake of wine may lower a person's risk of developing metabolic syndrome. It must be kept in mind that wine is only helpful when consumed in moderation. In fact, over indulgence in wine is actually injurious to health.
  4. Maintain an ideal body weight: Obese people are more prone to suffer from high blood pressure and increased blood sugar level; all of which fuel the risk of developing metabolic syndrome. Reduce your excessive body fat to achieve an ideal body weight to lead a healthy life. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a endocrinologist.

You will be alright soon. The real cause of tremors is just nervousness coming out of the battle. You are a brave young man. Toss all these jittery thoughts into air by the flick of mind and pursue your education with a focus. You will be a great doctor one day. Don't pat any attention to tremors. They will vanish the moment you neglect them.
