What does spina bifida at L 5 means
Cause of spina bifida How is the best way to correct it.
Spine notice is simply means the posterior bony part of vertebra at that level is failed to fuse in midline. It is a congenital (since birth) anomaly. There are many theories given for causative agent. The well accepted theory is folic acid deficiency at the time of neural time formation (very early pregnancy). Treatment depends on type of spine bifida. If it is spine bifida occulta than only observation is required with regular imaging. If it is spine bifida aperta than surgery is the usual option.

I am frustrated of daily migraine headache problem. Please suggest some remedy to get rid of it?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Udupi
Dear Lybrate User, *Avoid hot, spicy foods, fermented foods, white sugar, white flour products, and sour or citrus fruits, because they aggravate the Pitta in your body. *Drink more water and eat more fiber, fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. *Avoid excessive sugar or salt, refined foods, animal products (meats and dairy), caffeine, tea, and alcohol, as these items will further lead to aggravation of Pitta. *Avoid direct exposure to the sun, as migraine headaches are predominantly a Pitta disorder and can be triggered by the hot sun. *Head massage with Bhringraj Oil is also beneficial. This massage gives a calming effect to your nervous system. *Headaches caused due to tension and worry can be alleviated through deep breathing and relaxation, especially in a lying down position in a quiet place. Inverted postures, or those where the head is lowered briefly, increase oxygen to the brain and can reduce headache-causing strain.

Here are some symptoms of autism in children

Symptoms of Autism
Hi! Good morning! This is Dr. Rakesh Jain. I’m a Pediatric Neurologist working at Fortis Hospital, Gurgaon.
Today, I’m going to talk briefly about autism which is very commonly seen nowadays, in children.  I would like to tell you what are the common symptoms and how would you identify autism in the early childhood.
A child at the age of one year who doesn’t do finger pointing, who doesn’t have good eye contact, doesn’t start uttering a single word, doesn’t have a joint attention or there are some other concern like child doesn’t mix up with the children of his own age, then, you must suspect either, there is some problem in hearing and accordingly you should go to a pediatrician to get him checked.

So, first of all, pediatrician would ask you to do a hearing test. If the hearing test is normal, then, we must think about the diagnosis of autism. It is called autistic spectrum disorder. It could be mild, moderate, severe. It may be associated with some other problems like some behavior problems, hyperactivity, poor attention, poor memory, epilepsy, so on and so forth. So, it is really important to diagnose this disorder as early as we can so that we can identify the cause of it and we can try to mend it accordingly.

And, there is no cure as such for autism. That’s the scary thing that there is no cure but having diagnosed it properly, early in life, we could do so many things, lots of therapies, for example, occupational therapy, speech therapy, sensory integration, psychological support and there are some medication as well to help with the comorbidities, not to treat the disorder as a core treatment .

If you want to know any further about it, and if your child is having any of the symptoms please, do contact your local pediatrician for basic screening and if you want to reach me, you could either visit me or you could connect me through Lybrate.
Thank you very much for your kind attention!

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Well I can say that it appears to be a slightly complicated case in which you need proper examination of motor strength of muscles supplied by the injured nerve and sensory testing before I can say anything, but maybe you can send me your doctor's prescription as must have written your examination. This will enable me to know the degree of impairment present so that I can the guide you on that. Also send me latest nerve conduction study report so that I can see that as well. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

Dear lybrate-user ji, Do physiotherapy. If no improvement by 7 days, you need to do nerve conduction velocity with electromyography (NCV and EMG) and MRI cervical spine plain. Is there any pain? How is your strength in left hand?

There are two exercises you can do 1. Sit on edge of chair and raise your leg from the ground, keep it there for 30-45 sec, repeat this at least 50 times a day 2 sit on bed, place a 2" fold of towel under your knee and press the towel witth your knee joint and try to maintain pressure for 30 secs or so, repeat this exercise 50 times a day.
