From past two days I am having severe neck pain with light headache and vomiting. Is cervical spondylosis causing this and what are the methods to avoid it.

Yes if upper cervical vertebrae are involved then you may have symptoms like headache, dizziness and neck pain. In physio we have a treatment for cervical spondylitis so I would recommed you to consult any physio and start taking physio modalities and manipulations to reduce pain and increase mobility. I have specially designed one program as I-care specially in cases of neck and back pain which I have pratically applied on many of my patients and received a very good result. The treatment include: 1. Ice massage - Take ice pain perform massage over the area which is painful and have swelling. Do “to” and “fro” motion. Apply it for 8-10 minutes and then relax your body for another 3-5 minutes. 2. Deep massage - Using your finger tips start kneading your affected area. 3 finger kneading or 2 finger kneading or you can use thumb also for kneading. Once done with kneading again relax your body for 3-5 minutes. 3. Now apply any pain relieving ointment like volini or oraflame etc. Do not massage with the ointment. Just apply it gently involving all the area. Do not penetrate it. Once done with application again relax your body for 3-5 minutes and start performing exercises. Exercises: Because of pain and stiffness your neck range starts decreasing so with the entire treatment program we can help you to make your neck mobile and reduce pain to live happily. 1. Position - Sitting Bend your head forward until you feel stretch behind your neck. Hold for 5-10 secs. And relax. Repeat 5 -10 times. Perform same by taking neck backward and then side ways. Perform the exercises slowly until a stretch is felt. Do not over stretch, perform slowly and gently. 2. Position - Sitting Isometrics: Infront of mirror. Place your both hands on your forehead. Apply contradict pressure from hands towards your head and with your head towards your hands. There should not be any neck moment. Instead an isometric contractions should be there in neck. Hold for 5 sec and relax. Repeat it for 5-10 times. Perform same by placing your hands on the back of your head and giving isometric contractions to make posterior muscles stregthening. Then same as with placing one hand on right side and giving pressure from hand to head and vice versa. 3. Position - Sitting Stretching - Bend your head forward and and then gently pull your head further by applying pressure from your hands. A stretch is felt on back of your neck. Same a stretch your side neck muscles. 4. While exhaling push your upper rib down with your one hand and then tilt your head and give a slight stretch by rotating your head to opposite side. Hold for 5 sec and then relax. Repeat for 5-10 secs. 5. Neck and back straight, keep your chin in. Hold for 5 sec and feel a stretch in your neck. Relax. Repeat for 5-10 times. 6. Lie on bed with towel roll under your neck. Press the roll into the floor by using your neck muscles. Hold for 5 sec and relax. Perform 5-10 times. Advice - 1. Use very thin pillow while sleeping. 2. Do not sit for long time with your neck forward bending. 3. Lying on bed and reading book or newspaper should be avoided. 4. If there will be any pain while performing exercises or headache stop doing exercise and consult physio right away. 5. Sit in erect posture without bending your back or neck. 6. Position your desktop so that it should be just infront of your neck you do not have to bend your hands or neck. Please contact me if you face any problem while performing the I-care at home. You need to be a little more specific as to where you be hurt yourself or its paining so that one can make suggestions pertaining to your problem. Until then you can have an antiinflammatory twice a day after meals to subside the Inflammation/ apparent swelling over affected area n use an ice pack on aches n pains of body. Don't forget to get a tetanus injection and dress the area that got hurt and are oozing blood/ fluids.

Hello you should start physiotherapy sessions and learn exercise for your knee joint without any delay. Meanwhile you can take following precautions. 1) do not lift or carry heavy objects. 2) if there is swelling then apply cold pack 3) if no swelling then apply hot water bag 4) wear comfortable shoes. I am 42 years old I have pain in my fingers joints and toe joints my uric acid level is 5.8. How I can get rid of this problem?

It needs to be investigated. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Physiotherapy usually helps any way take paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days you will need other supportive medicines also. It may have to be further investigated make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Do reply back for private consultation and detailed treatment plan.

Hello lybrate user, - back pain is common in leucorrhea - leucorrhea might bcz of diet impairment or harmon related. - you need to correct it asap. - prepare decoction out of ajwain and ginger add a pinch of turmeric and honey to it and have it before food twice daily - avoid heavy foods in the night. - make sure you are getting register cycles - excess of sleep/ day sleep will trigger this problem. - for now take pushyanuga churna with warm water twice daily after food. - leuco-r cap 2-0-2 after food. Report after 15days. Thank you.

Quad Clenches: Lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, Hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short Arcs: Lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day.

Bhujang asana -- lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core strengthening exercises- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold). Contrast bath---It is a form of treatment knee is applied warm water followed by the immediate application of the knee with ice water. This procedure is repeated several times, alternating hot and cold. Note that the treatment should always end in the ice water, as heat will induce the body's inflammatory response, while cold helps to decrease inflammation.

I am 23 yr old. I have backache and thigh ache for more than 3 years. It is dangerous in winter season. When I sleep, I can not lift even a single step cz it so painful.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to have a persistent back pain as a health issue. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Do take ift and laser therapy for pain relief for 7 days followed by strengthening exercise from neuro physiotherapist avoid stress anxiety and anticipating the things have balanced diet with calcium rich foods.

Its basically mechanical back pain due to faulty posture. You need to do some exercises for your back regularly, atleast twice a day, specially in the morning when you get up, so that this problem gets resolved. Meet a physiotherapist personally to get the exact exercises for your problem, learn them, perform them under physio's supervision and then keep doing them at home.

Hello lybrate user, back pain alone in young age without any associated symptoms like fever, loss of weight or appetite might indicate towards a slip disc or a minor injury to the soft tissues supporting the spine. So, if you do not have any other associated symptoms and have tried adequate amount of rest, then it might be time for you to start with physiotherapy exercises for maintaining the range of movements and also strengthening the back muscles. Consult a physiotherapist for the same. However, if you do have other associated symptoms, then you might need to consult an orthopaedic surgeon for a detailed clinical assessment. Hope this helps.

I am 46 years old. I can't move my right hand freely. When I want to raise my hand then feeling pain in side the muscles near the shoulder. I din't take any medicine or exercise. Please give me a way to releif.

This pain could be due to certain degenerative changes in your shoulder joint or its associated structures, or could be just muscular in nature. If there is no history of any injury, or any s/s of inflammation or infection like swelling, skin redness or local warmth etc, I will advise you initially to do: - ice packs at home 3-4 times in a day - gentle anti inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or tab paracetamol can be taken for 5-7 days or as sos basis - physical therapy with tens or laser under supervision of a physical therapist - analgesic spray like dynapar qps spray for local application - adequate calcium and vitamin d intake as per requirement. Let me know in 2-3 weeks time how you are feeling, otherwise we will get some investigations done for you. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Do not take thick pillow. Give support to your neck not head. Do exercises of neck keep your posture correct. Take belladona thrice a day on 30 potency and cal. Flour 12 x four tablets daily once and after five days call back.
