It is normal to lose about 30-80 strands of hair in a day. Common reasons behind hair fall are 1) Lack of essential nutrients in the body 2) Improper and unhealthy dietary habits 3) Hormonal imbalance 4) Certain medications, 5) Dandruff, alopecia and other scalp disorders, 6) Anemia and thyroid issue 7) Increased body heat 8) Stress and tension etc. 9) Use of Hard water to wash hairs TIPS TO STOP HAIR LOSS 1) Use Natural oils such as coconut, almond etc. To massage gently the scalp for countering hair fall. 2) Have more proteins and trace minerals in diet. 3) Start taking Ayurvedic hair nutrition supplement. 4) Keep stress away & take proper 8 hr calm sleep 5) Get the underlying scalp condition like dandruff treated. 6) Start 2 spoon cow ghee with milk - empty stomach; will provide you essential nutrition. 7) Use soft water to wash your hairs.(alternate day is limit) 8) DO regular exercise, yoga, meditation. 9) keep your body cool & calm to avoid hairfall you can consult me.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. As I understand, you have been treated for your urinary tract infection (uti) and are feeling better now. For the time being, I would advise that you upkeep your diet and lifestyle, and stay well hydrated. You can take 150 ml of fresh cranberry juice (unsweetened) twice daily for the next 2 weeks. Try including more of fresh turmeric, tomatoes and black cumin seeds in your daily diet. However, make sure to avoid sweets, carbonated drinks, alcohol, high calorie, greasy, fatty, oily and fast foods. The above-mentioned shall help both your uti as well help prevent recurrent infections of the urinary tract too. Again, you need not explicitly take medications for prostate should you not have any problems in that regard. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best.

Major Hair Loss Triggers in Women

PGDMC, MBBS
Dermatologist, Ghaziabad
Major Hair Loss Triggers in Women

If you lose about 50-100 strands of hair each day, but the loss is not visible as new hair grow in their place. However, if you lose more than a 100 strands in a day and more than 200 strands on the day you shampoo, you may be suffering from what is known as excessive hair fall.

Following are the conditions that lead to hair loss:

  • PCOS: In polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), your body makes more male hormones, or androgen, than it should. This can cause the extra hair on your face and body while the hair on your head thins out.
  • The Pill: The hormones that suppress ovulation can also thin out your hair. You can also lose hair when you stop taking the pill.
  • Crash Diets: You may lose more than weight with a fad diet. And if you lose weight more rapidly, you might also lose hair in a couple of months.
  • Deficiency: A longstanding deficiency of Iron, Folic acid, and other nutrients can also trigger off hair loss and cause hair thinning.
  • Thyroid Problems: If the thyroid makes too much or too little thyroid hormone, you may develop progressive thinning of hair all over the scalp.
  • Medicines: Drugs like blood thinners, methotrexate, cholesterol lowering medications, chemotherapeutic agents, anti-depressants etc. can cause hair loss and thinning.
  • Childbirth: Hair seems fuller during pregnancy because high hormone levels keep resting hairs from falling out. But after the baby comes, things go back to normal and those strands will fall out quickly. You could lose a lot of hair at once.
  • Cancer treatment: Chemo and radiation therapy can take a toll on your hair. In their quest to kill cancer cells, both can harm hair follicles and trigger dramatic hair loss. Extreme stress e.g. a serious illness, major surgery, trauma involving blood loss, severe emotional disturbance etc., can cause you to suddenly shed huge amounts of hair. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Dermatologist.

Acne - Treating It With Laser!

MBBS, MD - Dermatology
Dermatologist, Ahmednagar
Acne - Treating It With Laser!

Human skin is prone to many problems like pimples, pigmentation, wrinkles and acne. Acne is the bane of an adolescent’s life. Yet it happens due to a common problem. Hair follicles on skin, arms and the torso, sometimes overproduce cells and become blocked. Due to this blockage, oil produced by tiny oil glands in the skin gets trapped and becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, giving rise to acne.

There are two main types of acne - non-inflammatory and inflammatory. Examples of non-inflammatory acne are whiteheads and blackheads. Blackheads form when a clog or plug develops in the opening of hair follicles in your skin. Each follicle contains one hair and a sebaceous gland that produces oil, called sebum, which helps keep your skin soft. Dead skin cells and oils collect in the opening to the skin follicle, producing a bump called a 'comedone'. If the skin over the bump stays closed, the bump is called a whitehead. When the skin over the bump opens, exposure to the air causes it to look black and a blackhead forms. These are ugly but can be taken care of through common cosmetic procedures.

Inflammatory acne is not so easy to treat or hide. Usually, in this type of acne, the hair follicle wall ruptures and the fighter white blood cells rush into the spot, causing either a very prominent white, yellow or red sore to form or a pus-filled lesion which is damn ugly and leaves a lifelong scar on drying.

Acne Scar Removal-

That’s all about acne, now the treatment. Acne is partially a hormonally linked problem and it is also linked to inflammation. Adolescents suffer the most. Treatments include pills and creams.

But now lasers have become the treatment of choice for sufferers.

Lasers are the magic wands of plastic surgery. They work by emitting a ray of light which produces certain effects in the skin leading to the removal of acne and its scars, as well as skin tightening, and hair removal. Laser treats acne by shrinking oil glands and killing the bacteria that cause acne. They, apparently work on ’porphyrins’, compounds which are present inside acne-causing bacteria. So when porphyrins are targeted, they damage the bacterial wall killing the bacteria.

The kinds of lasers that doctors use for treating acne include Diode, Nd:YAG, IPL, Glass, and Pulsed Light and Heat Energy (LHE), as well as a new "vacuum" laser called ‘Isolaz’ which is extremely effective. There are reports that laser treatment may also reduce sebum (skin oil) levels in the skin which trap bacteria and cause acne in the first place.

The lows of laser for acne treatment are that it’s expensive and usually, requires multiple trips to the dermatologist. Doctors usually recommend three treatments, about a month apart. This can go up if you have stubborn acne.

Laser resurfacing, a process that smoothes the top surface of the skin is also used for getting rid of acne scars. But once again it’s expensive and takes multiple sittings.

YOu can apply vegetable oil for smooth skin. Hi you can apply a mixture of milk and banana on your face. 1. Before going to sleep apply a mixture of raw milk and rose water on your skin. 2. Mix baking soda with water and apply on your face when clean. Let it sit for 15 minutes before you wash it off with water. – This is an excellent way for getting lighter skin -1) Apply a mixture of honey and lemon, both only one tablespoon, before sleeping and then rinse with warm water. Ensure a good night's sleep and then wash your face with cool water in the morning. OR YOU CAN 2) Apply mash ripe banana on face and leave for 15 minutes. Use rice water to help lighten your skin faster. For smoother and clear skin- you can make a lemon juice rinse. 1. Squeeze the juice from half a lemon and add the same amount of water. ... 2. Dip a cotton ball in the mixture and apply it to your face, neck, chest, arms, and anywhere else you want your skin to be lighter. 3. My hairs are getting white. I don't know how to react to this situation please advice me the cure for it.

MD - Dermatology, MBBS, Diplomate of American Board of Laser Surgery

My hairs are getting white. I don't know how to react to this situation please advice me the cure for it.
WHITE HAIR Hair turning white before forties is a growing concern amongst youth. Continuous formation of oxygen free radicals in body due to stress, nutritional deficiency, heat and chemical exposure etc. Is the prime reason. Oxygen free radicals exhaust the color producing cells in hair giving rise to white hair. Thus, treatment should aim at reducing free radical formation and their continual flushing out from body. Resorting to various detoxification remedies on regular basis would help flushing them out. Details of various detoxification methods to be done at home are mentioned in our detoxification blog. To reduce their formation following things need to be followed: 1. Stress: Excess work and less energy to accomplish the same give rise to stress. A great deal of energy is lost by over thinking mind. Meditation is the best way to give some rest to mind and restore the lost energy. Pranayam like anulomvilom and kapaalbhati are other deep breathing exercises done regularly help control anxiety a long way. 2. Nutritional deficiency: Especially because of eating too much junk, packed food, bassi/stale food and consuming food kept in fridge or cooked in microwave and cooker. Try to eat fresh and not bassi food cooked over three hours. Check our food blogs on our website for amazing ways to transform your food habits the healthy way without compromising on taste. Try to add as much raw food as possible to your diet, vegetable soups, fruit, fruit juices, sprouts etc. 3. Chemical damage by shampoos and saloon treatments like hair colour, rebonding, straightening etc. Switch to chemical free indigo leaves based hair dyes. Use SLS free shampoos. 4. Heat damage: Use of blow dryer and sun exposure, exposes hair to excessive heat. To cut down the heat exposure by a blow dryer use the one with attached comb and restrict its use to 15 seconds every day. Using the one with attached comb gives you the advantage of blow drying the entire mane in 15 seconds thus reducing the heat exposure greatly. Cover hair with scarf when out in sun. 5. Another common observation is, people with sinusitis having white hair with greater frequency. Do pranayam (deep breathing excercises) regularly to cure sinusitis. Once its cured the occurance of white hair would be halted. TREATMENT Allopathy doesn't have an effective cure. Ayurvedic remedy 1. Take 50 gms of coconut oil, take 5 pieces of amla and heat the oil till amla turns black. Cool oil and store it in a bottle. Apply three times a week overnight before washing it next day. 2. Take 4 table spoon of Amla powder. Add water and lemon juice. Mix till a paste like consistency is formed. Apply for 20 minutes on hair and scalp before head wash. Wash it with plain water avoiding shampoo. Do it twice a week. 3. Eat lots of amla or amla juice every day.
