If he has no effect like lack of consciousness or fits and if no injury on head & if he is playful and feeding well, it is unlikely that he may have any serious injury and a ct is not obligatory. You need to consult a physician for your diabetes problem. As far as your child is concerned your diabetes will not affect your child with your breast milk. Need not worry!

My 7 month old baby girl has viral fever and is under paracetamol drops medication. I got her urine routine test done which shows 20-40 WBC/hpf and positive leucocyte esterase. Does this mean that she has UTI or it could be because she already has viral infection.

More then 10 wbcs are suggestive of urine infection. You must start antibiotics immediately after giving early morning urine sample for culture and sensitivity test report of which you will be getting after 48 hours and you must change the antibiotics according to that.

My baby is 9 months nw and is active but his weight is below 8 kg .should I use any vitamis to increase his weight

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), Pediatric Gastroenterology
Pediatrician, Delhi
At 9 months, 8kg weight is about OK. Multivits dont help in weight gain as such. Give your baby some khichdi, suji kheer, and other home food with a little extra butter/ghee. Continue breast feeding . You could give bananas, and fruit juice too. Increasing complimentary feeding like this will help in weight gain.

It is a good thing that your boy is active and otherwise healthy. His weight may or may not be fine for his age. But most important thing is that he should regularly gain weight as per expected. This you can get in your vaccination card where you will find a growth chart.  you can plot his weight against her age at regular intervals like say 3 monthly and see whether he is gaining weight normally or not. Normally a kid of his age should gain approximately 2 kg per year.

I just want to know that maximum how many days anti biotic can we give to 7-9 month old baby!
It depends on the ailment condition and improvement. There is no hard and fast rule, usually a course of 3-5 days is sufficient, in certain conditions like tb and leprosy we give for about a year.

My daughter is advised to take attentrol10mg. She is 18 year old. She get lost and does not pay attention continuously. So doctor told us now that she is having ADHD problem. I just want to ask is it genetic or due to some other reason?

P.G.C.C. Pediatric, MBBS
Pediatrician, Delhi
The exact cause of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd) isn't known. But it may run in families. Ongoing research is focused on finding the genes that cause a person to be likely to get adhd. A mother's use of cigarettes, alcohol, or other drugs during pregnancy may increase the risk for adhd.

Keep feeding her only breast milk. Check wether she has fever. Is she active and sucks the breasts.(hydration is important). Get in touch with your doctor and once he checks clinically, correct treatment plan can be thought of. Follow up after that.

Child 16month jo khata h ulti ho jati h dast bhi hote h. please ki solution btaye..

Child 16month jo khata h ulti ho jati h dast bhi hote h. please ki solution btaye..
After every bout of loose motion, feed your child a few teaspoons of a drink he enjoys. Some good options include water, coconut water, buttermilk, lassi, barley water, lemonade or nimbu paani and lemonade with mint or nimbu pudina paani. If your baby is breastfeeding, continue to feed him. Breastmilk has fluids and nutrients that improve digestion. You may also want to buy an ORS or Oral Rehydration Solution pack from your local chemist. Give your baby a few sips every hour. This will help him stay hydrated. Make sure you prepare the ORS exactly how it is prescribed on the packet. If your baby is vomiting, wait for 15 to 30 minutes, and then give him a few teaspoons of water. Once that goes down well, give him clear liquids like coconut water or watery rice gruel.

Raising your Children with High Self Esteem

Post Graduate Diploma in Pyschology

Raising your Children with High Self Esteem

Building your child’s confidence and self image is an important part of raising a child. Self image can be defined as a child’s view of himself and his strengths. If a child is comfortable with his self image, he will have confidence in himself. A foundation of self confidence is key to a child’s success in his adult life. In their childhood years, a parent is the main source of building a child’s self worth or self confidence. Here are a few ways you can develop your child’s self confidence.

1. Avoid negative self talk: Children learn by watching their parents. Hearing parents berate themselves will make children do the same. Talking badly about yourself can reinforce a low self esteem. Hence avoid talking negatively about yourself and stop your child from doing it as well. If your child talks negatively about himself, give him evidence to prove the opposite or give them meaningful compliments. Also avoid calling your child names to shame him as these are likely to stay ingrained in his mind.

2. Celebrate uniqueness: Don’t make your child feel like he has to live up to the standards set by siblings or peers. Further, do not pressurize them to fulfill your dreams. Recognize your child’s strengths and celebrate his unique abilities. Help them develop their talents and set their own standards for themselves.

3. Let your child make decisions: Empower your child by allowing them to make decisions about simple things like what game to play or what to eat for dinner. Make them feel that their views are valued and thus teach them to be an active member of the family.

4. Let them work things out for themselves: Spoon feeding your child makes things easier at the time, but in the long run can have a negative effect on their self confidence. Be patient and let your child try and do things for himself. As he meets and overcomes new challenges, his confidence will grow. Give your child age appropriate chores to do around the house. This helps build responsibility and a feeling of competency.

5. Be genuine about your praise: Children are highly intuitive and can tell the difference between sincere praise and something being said merely for the sake of it. For example, if your child has made a drawing, instead of simply telling your child that he is an artist in the making be more specific and praise his choice or colours or ability of colouring within the lines.
