My 10.5 month baby isn't gaining weight. I give her two snacks and three meals a day which includes veggies and fruits. Her weight is 7 kgs which is really concerning. I wish there should be an article on babies weight like other articles by doctors.

Baby wt gains depend on calories he is taking which starts right from 1-2 hours after birth. If baby is deficient of calories from early age, it becomes difficult, though not impossible, to recover. At this age of 10.5 months normal average expected wt is 9.5 kg while your baby is only 7 kg. Increase his caloric diet by adding oil in cooked food and either increasig quantity or frequency of such food but don't force to feed.

Dear lybrate-user, is your delivery normal/ caesar. Wats your present weight. Since your feeding your baby, its not advisable to go for internal medicine rite nw. Because mother's feed is very important for a baby & also you can regularise your body weight only by feeding your baby. Don't be stress or panic. Its easy to reduce weight. Kindly reply to my questions so that I can guide you in an easy way. Enjoy motherhood. Have a great day thank you.

Dear sir. I am a teacher. I want to know this. What are the symptoms of Dyslexia and dysgraphia?

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear in the earlier childhood stages, diagnosis of dyslexia may be a little difficult. In older children or adults with dyslexia, these other signs may appear: trouble with reading, writing, and spelling. Ongoing trouble with schoolwork. Difficulty learning a foreign language. Poor handwriting. Difficulty remembering numbers. Trouble following a sequence of directions and telling left from right. The symptoms to dysgraphia are often overlooked or attributed to the student being lazy, unmotivated, not caring, or having delayed visual-motor processing. To diagnose dysgraphia, one must have more than one of the following symptoms: cramping of fingers while writing short entries odd wrist, arm, body, or paper orientations such as creating an l-shape with your arm excessive erasures mixed upper case and lower case letters inconsistent form and size of letters, or unfinished letters misuse of lines and margins inefficient speed of copying inattentiveness over details when writing frequent need of verbal cues referring heavily on vision to write poor legibility handwriting abilities that may interfere with spelling and written composition having a hard time translating ideas to writing, sometimes using the wrong words altogether may feel pain while writing.

Importance and Tips to Maintain Healthy Milk Teeth

Importance and Tips to Maintain Healthy Milk Teeth

The appearance of the milk teeth is one of the most awaited landmarks in a child's life. The first teeth to erupt are usually the lower front teeth during 6 to 8 months of life, and the last milk tooth to fall off is at 12 to 14 years of age. The playful nature of teeth, difficulty to make them maintain good oral hygiene, and the food habits put the children at increased risk of dental disease.

Very often, because they are in place for a shorter duration, parents tend to ignore decay in the milk teeth. But whether it is decay or gum disease or broken teeth, it is important to immediately treat them.

Listed below are some functions that milk teeth play:

  1. Eating: They may be exerting slightly lesser force than the bigger permanent teeth, but they still play a significant role in chewing and digestion. Children with weak, missing, or decayed molars have poor nutrition and food habits due to their inability to chew food well.
  2. Esthetics: A child with a good set of teeth and an open smile is loved by all. This adds not just to the beauty of the child but also to his self-worth and self-esteem. These children feel more confident and are more social.
  3. Speech development: A good set of teeth are essential for the child's speech development. Improper spacing between teeth or lost tooth not replaced can lead to speech issues.
  4. Space Maintenance: In addition to the above functions, the milk teeth also help to preserve and "maintain" the space that is required for the permanent teeth. As the permanent tooth nears eruption, the milk tooth, gets resorbed, becomes mobile, and finally falls off. In cases where the primary tooth was lost and not replaced, the space may be reduced due to movement of the adjacent and opposing tooth into this space.

Given the above reasons, it is very important to take good care of the primary or milk or deciduous teeth. Some simple things to do would be:

  1. In the very early stages, before regular dental care can begin, the teeth can be wiped off with a gauze wrapped on the finger.
  2. By the first year of life, brushing should be introduced along with rinsing after each meal.
  3. A biannual visit to the dentist for oral prophylaxis with regular cleaning should be started by first year of life.
  4. If the dentist identifies the child to be prone to decay, fluoride application and/or pit and fissure sealants should be used.

These are sufficient reasons to take care of the primary teeth, which play a very important role. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dentist.

Use of stimulant decreases the symptoms to a much good effect and if we don't give stimulant medication There will be more of conduct disorder and progress in disease and for side effects we have to monitor the person and advice them accordingly

Mood swings, irritability, tics, alteration in appetite, delayed growth are all side effects of that treatment. Please consult a proper homeopathic doctor for this. I would suggest you to go for at least one consultation. Either with me or some other doctor whom you trust. That will be better for you. Still if you have any queries, please feel free to ask me. Take care :)

If she had been dry for 2-3 years after age of 3 years, take it easy and don't make her conscious or scold her. Get her urinated before retiring at about 10 O' clock. Otherwise get her properly checked.

Hi I gave xylomist nasal drops to my 4 months old baby by mistake. I am worried. Can you help me on wat to do.
Relaxed. Nothing will happen by using it once or twice. Now use normal saline drops when nose is really blocked and causes difficulties in feeding or sleeping.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
My baby boy has completed 8 months on 29 DEC. please suggest me a healthy food chart with proper timings.
He can be given all homemade foods. No need for a separate chart Bring on some spices (8 months old) and softly mashed, or chopped into fine pieces, fruits, vegetables, meats, pasta and dairy such as yogurt and cheeses. Pasta, veggies, and fruit should all be soft cooked and possibly mashed with a fork or masher.

No need to give any medicines and all mothers mistake possetting for vomiting and it is because the ges is not strong in infants and will stoop over 6 months or by one year. You keep monitoring weight.
