Reality Check: 98% Adult Indians Need Teeth Scaling. Why?

Reality Check: 98% Adult Indians Need Teeth Scaling. Why?
Why most Indian Adults Need Teeth Scaling?

Huge number of Indians tend to ignore or abuse their dental health. Most adults in the country need regular scaling due to their food and lifestyle habits.
Teeth scaling is one of the most common methods used for treating gum disease. This procedure helps remove plaque and tartar (causes of gum tissue inflammation) build-up on your teeth. In a nutshell, it reverses the occurrence of gum disease, while preventing further development of it into a serious condition. A non-surgical procedure, teeth scaling is different from a normal dental cleaning as it involves cleaning the tooth areas that are under the gum line. It removes substances that cannot be removed through brushing.

The importance of scaling

In addition to giving you healthy gums, dental scaling is important for reducing your risk of having a heart disease. If you’re wondering how teeth scaling is connected to your heart, here’s how – several studies show that gum disease can increase your risk of heart disease as the bacteria that build up along the gum line get dislodged, enter your blood and attach themselves to the blood vessels, causing the formation of clots. These clots then cause a drop in your blood flow to the heart, bringing about a rise in your blood pressure, and consequently increasing your risk of a heart attack.

How often it must be done?

To keep your gums and teeth in good condition, it is best to go for teeth scaling every 6 months. This is because as you age your saliva becomes thicker with a decrease in its water content. As a result, your mouth becomes more prone to dryness, thereby allowing the food and bacteria to remain longer in the mouth, causing the formation of plaque. A soft sticky film on the teeth, plaque continues to form in your mouth and begins to mineralize into tartar within 10-14 hours. This makes it all the more necessary to get this job done on a regular basis.

Sir I hav bad smell in my mouth pls frm last few years so any suggestion s frm your side.

bachelor of dental surgery
Dentist, Hyderabad
Hi, Mr. Lybrate-user genrally bad smell arises due to one to many reasons, reasons can be like food lodgement between teeth in any region mostly in molar regions its frequent problem or decayed tooth i. E a cavity in the tooth or bledding gums or due to inadequate drinking of water or smoking etc if you do not have the above said problems then sometimes gastric problems or underlying medical issues can be a reason for bad smell. As for avoiding bad smell you need to brush twice and do garling with plain water after every meal. And regular professional dental cleaning.

My friend is having sensitivity in her tooth from hot and cold from one week, pain is also there. Pain gets increase during night. What is the problem?

Certified Implantologist, BDS
Dentist, Ambala
Pain during night is because of lying down in bed. This is a classic sign where you need to get the involved tooth treated because the nerve inside the tooth is hurting you. Most probably you will have to go for rct followed by crown prosthesis to save the tooth. Act before the pain aggravates. In between take any pain killer you take at home twice daily for interim relief. I hope this helps.

I am 30 years old ,and till now after 2 deliveries every now and then I have to visit the dentist and till now in past 1 year I have gone through 4 rootcanals of last four tooths pls suggest me so I can save my other teeth from damage.

Dentist, Siwan
Got treatment RCT means your tooth affected by caries lesion. This happens just because of lack of oral hygiene maintenance. So please brush twice daily and be sure that while brushing your brush is approaching every corner of every tooth and after brushing use mouthwash. If you are sweet lover and frequently using food containing sugar. Please rinse with water after finishing. By taking proper care you will not follow any further problem at your age.

Sir I have jaw pain since 3 months. I have also see the doctor but I couldn't get any relief. I am really hurts please suggest me some medical information about this. What should I have do do?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Kindly consult an oral & maxillofacial surgeon in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (full mouth x-ray, tmj open & closed mouth) & clinical examination to decide upon treatment. Until then have soft diet. Replace posterior teeth if they are missing. Advise mouth opening exercise & side to side movement for the jaw muscles or the use of anti-inflammatory medicines and painkillers. For people who grind their teeth or clench their jaw, a bite-appliance may be made which corrects the way in which the jaw works and reduces the stresses and loads on it. This can be disposed of when normal function is restored. As oral & maxillo-facial surgeon, may be required to perform surgery on the tmj.

Hi, to permanently treat the ulcers, we need to treat the cause. The cause can be stress, constipation, minor trauma, vitamin deficiency, etc. For temporary relief, you can apply dologel ct over the ulcers 4 to 5 times a day. For permanent cure, you should visit an oral medicine specialist. Regards.

I have bleeding gums. and most of the time I have yellowish teeth so how to remove this ?

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
The dentist, periodontist, or dental hygienist removes the plaque through a deep-cleaning method called scaling and root planing. Scaling means scraping off the tartar from above and below the gum line. Root planing gets rid of rough spots on the tooth root where the germs gather, and helps remove bacteria that contribute to the disease.

You can start using a sensitive toothpaste. Take a little bit toothpaste on your finger and massage it on the sensitive teeth. Leave for 6-8 minutes and then rinse off.

I am suffering from gum bleeding. My teeth are too weak. Please give me a suggestion.

Certified Implantologist, BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
You need to get scaling (cleaning) done so as to remove all the plaque and calculus, the gum bleeding, pus (if any) and bad breath would regress over a period of 10-15 days. Also do clean your tongue properly and use a good mouthwash as well. Visit a dentist.
