Smoking, use of priscription pain killer and banned drugs during pregnancy can cause still birth. Still birth is death of foetus before 20 weeks of gestation.Risk of passive smoking is almost same as of active smoking,so pregnant women should avoid smokers, for the health of their foetus.

Dear Lybrate user. Vagina is a place which is always moist and therefore more prone to foreign disease causing micro-organisms. You cannot clean the vagina 100%. Therefore, I suggest never to suck the vagina in any case. Take care.

Management of Endometriosis

FICMCH, Diploma In Laproscopic Surgery, Certified in Laparoscopy & Hysteroscopy, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), MBBS
Gynaecologist, Gurgaon
Management of Endometriosis

When cells of tissues that are usually found lining the inside cavity of the uterus, start growing outside the organ, for eg over the ovaries/ fallopian tubes/ urinary bladder etc. it is called endometriosis. Painful periods, pain during sex, pain while urinating or bowel movements, heavy bleeding, fatigue, infertility, diarrhea, bloating and nausea are some of the symptoms of endometriosis.

Treating endometriosis usually depends on the following factors

  1. Age
  2. Severity of symptoms
  3. Severity of the disease
  4. Future plans for children

Depending on these the doctor might opt for any of the following treatments

  1. Medication for Pain: If the symptoms are mild, then the doctor will prescribe some pain killers like Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
  2. Hormone Therapy: Hormone therapy is effective, but once you stop them, your symptoms may come back. Some of the hormone therapies include:
    • Hormonal Contraceptives: Birth control pills, vaginal rings and patches are useful in controlling the hormones that are responsible for tissue build-up outside the uterine cavity.
    • Medroxyprogesterone: This drug stops menstruation, which in turn stops the tissue build-up and put an end to all the symptoms. But on the other hand, gaining weight, low bone production and depression are some of the common effects of this drug.
    • Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (Gn-RH) antagonists and agonists: Hormones that stimulate ovaries are blocked by these. They bring down oestrogen levels and hence prevent menstruation.
    • Danazol: This drug prevents menstruation and symptoms of endometriosis by blocking the hormones that stimulate the ovaries. However, Danazol may not be a favourable option because of its side effects. The drug should be avoided during pregnancy.
  3. Conservative Surgery: If you are trying to get pregnant, but you already suffer from endometriosis, then removing endometriosis surgically is a viable solution. Your uterus and ovaries will be preserved, which might increase your chances of becoming pregnant. Even suffering from severe pain might find relief from conservative surgery.
  4. Hysterectomy: In extreme cases, the only way to deal with the symptoms is to completely remove the uterus, ovaries and cervix. Since a hysterectomy means you cannot have children, it is kept as the last option for women in their reproductive age. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.

Hi I have intercourse in missionary position with my wife due to which my body weight falls on her stomach is it safe if she is about to get pregnant will pregnancy effect if I put my body weight on her stomach during intercourse.

MBBS, DGO, MRSH, DGO,

You can lift up your body weight during sexual contact rather than putting your entire weight on her, in either case it is not harmful if she gets pregnant during this time as long as you avoid putting weight on her post her pregnancy, we advise lesser sexual contact in first three months of pregnancy in either case.

It may occur occasionally without any reason and problems and also may be due to stress or anxiety so relax, if it happens often then you will need to do ultrasound test of pelvis.

Iam 23 year old. I have late periods that 2 months and 3 months. please tell me. How to get regular periods and what ...
Menstrual periods are often irregular during the first few years after menstruation starts. It may take several years for the hormones that control menstruation to reach a balance. Menopause or peri-menopause is the phase when a female again faces irregular menses. Pregnancy is the most common cause of a missed period. If you might be pregnant, treat yourself as if you are pregnant until you know for sure. Use a home pregnancy test as the first step to finding out whether you are pregnant. If you are not pregnant, other causes of missed or irregular periods include: Excessive weight loss or gain. Although low body weight is a common cause of missed or irregular periods, obesity also can cause menstrual problems. Eating disorders, such as anorexia or bulimia. For more information, see the topic Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa. Increased exercise. Missed periods are common in endurance athletes. Emotional stress. Illness. Travel. Medicines such as birth control methods, which may cause lighter, less frequent, more frequent, or skipped periods or no periods at all. Hormone problems. This may cause a change in the levels of the hormones that the body needs to support menstruation. Illegal drug use. Problems with the pelvic organs , such as imperforate hymen, polycystic ovary syndrome, or Asherman's syndrome. Breast-feeding. Many women do not resume regular periods until they have completed breast-feeding. Other diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome, tuberculosis, liver disease, and diabetes can cause missed or irregular periods, although this is rare. Any nutritional deficiency can also lead to Menstrual problem/ irregularity. Take more of green vegetables, nuts, salads, seasonal fruits, yellow coloured veggies, milk & milk products, plenty of water and enough of sleep & rest. Take homoeopathic medication – Schwabe's Five Phos. And Alfaalfa Tonic – both thrice daily for 1 month. Thereafter revert me back..take care.

She needs to get an ultrasound first to find out cause of pain during menses. There r many causes. And treatment varies with the cause. Ask her to avoid taking so much pain killers as these r very harmful for kidneys. Better to take her to a gynaecologist. Even if the ultrasound is normal, there r many treatment options for tackling pain. Avoid pain killers.

Frequency of intercourse should be 3-4 times a week for full one year to get pregnant. As you r trying since just 2-3 months, you should wait for another 10 months before you seek any medical help. U can follow calender method to get pregnant early. If a women’s menstrual cycle varies from 26days to 31days cycle, The shortest cycle (26days) minus18days=8th day. The longest cycle (31days) minus 10days=21st day Thus, 8th to 21st day of each cycle counting from first day of menstrual period is considered as fertile period.

Hi lybrate-user, white discharge befeore&after periods is normal phenomena for any healthy women& even its common during midterm of cycle. Means 2nd&3rd wk after periods also, as then that is ovulation time,&so the dicharge is. Unless its offencive odored, with any itching, rash over extrenal area, staining the linen greenish or yellowish in colour, then we could suspect any infection, then some times both couple should use the medications based on the diagnosis&if any infections I identified. As you are taking more intake of water, then the out floew also will be more. Once you can check by taking less intake or avoiding water intake for few hrs&then observe, still the same frequency is maintaining or not so. Anyway, there are no sugar levels identified in test, you need not worry& at the same time you continue the more intake of water as usual which is good for body ingeneral. **abt conception, iys just 4 months only since married, so, you need not worry abt pregnancy. Plan the intercourse during ovulation period, i. E. From 2nd wk to 3rd wk. More often. If your menstrual cycle is normal, then you need not to worry. But still you are anxious, or after waiting 2 more months, you both try to go for check ups, including harmones[ like thyroid, lsh, etc}& for your husband. Semen analysis.

There are less chances of you being pregnant if the test is negative. But you may repeat it after 1 week as sometimes it comes false negative. And to be sure you may consult a gynecologist for physical examination and confirmation.
