Vaginal Bleeding During Pregnancy - 4 Warning Signs

MBBS, DGO
Gynaecologist, Gurgaon
Vaginal Bleeding During Pregnancy - 4 Warning Signs

During the first 20 weeks of pregnancy, 20 to 30% of women have vaginal bleeding. In about half of these women, the pregnancy ends in a miscarriage. If miscarriage does not occur immediately, problems later in the pregnancy are more likely. For example, the baby's birth weight may be low, or the baby may be born early (preterm birth), be born dead (stillbirth), or die during or shortly after birth. If bleeding is profuse, blood pressure may become dangerously low, resulting in shock.

The amount of bleeding can range from spots of blood to a massive amount. Passing large amounts of blood is always a concern, but spotting or mild bleeding may also indicate a serious disorder.

The most common cause is miscarriage. There are different degrees of miscarriage (also called spontaneous abortion). A miscarriage may be possible or certain to occur (inevitable abortion). All of the contents of the uterus may be expelled or not (incomplete abortion). The contents of the uterus may be infected before, during, or after the miscarriage (septic abortion). The fetus may die in the uterus and remain there (missed abortion). Any type of miscarriage can cause vaginal bleeding during early pregnancy.

The most dangerous cause of vaginal bleeding is rupture of an abnormally located (ectopic) pregnancy - one that is not in its usual place in the uterus. For example, one that is in a fallopian tube.

Another possibly dangerous but less common cause is rupture of a corpus luteum cyst. After an egg is released, the structure that released it (the corpus luteum) may fill with fluid or blood instead of breaking down and disappearing as it usually does. If an ectopic pregnancy or a corpus luteum cyst ruptures, bleeding may be profuse, leading to shock.

Warning signs:

In pregnant women with vaginal bleeding during early pregnancy, the following symptoms are cause for concern:

  1. Fainting, light-headedness, or a racing heart—symptoms that suggest very low blood pressure
  2. Loss of large amounts of blood or blood that contains tissue or large clots
  3. Severe abdominal pain that worsens when the woman moves or changes positions
  4. Fever, chills, and a vaginal discharge that contains pus mixed with the blood

When to see a doctor: Women with warning signs should see a doctor immediately. Women without warning signs should see a doctor within 48 to 72 hours. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

I'm 17 year old male, I had lot of pimples and now deep scars are left on my face. How can I remove them?
Please use Tea tree oil which is excellent for treating acne and pimples. It has antibacterial properties that help fight the bacteria that cause these skin problems. Plus, its soothing properties help reduce the redness and inflammation of pimples. It also helps dry out blackheads and whiteheads. Just dip a cotton ball in tea tree essential oil and dab it on the affected area. Rinse your face after 15 to 20 minutes. Another option is to mix a few drops of tea tree oil in 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel. Apply it on your pimples and blemishes, leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse it off. Note: Steer clear of tea tree oil if you have sensitive skin. For further queries get back to me.

I am 34 years married man with a daughter 5 months old. I am a medical sales professional managing a team of 6 members. While trying out to clean the corruption in the team. I have to take some harsh decision and change few team members in the team. As a result the performance get a blow even after giving 100% effort. Over last one and half years, I am wrecked both in my professional field and personal life with my parents. I have become very stressed short tempered. I fails to express my thoughts, ideas, feelings and concerts. People misunderstands me and my views. My division making power is getting creepled. All steps seems wrong. I am on the edge of getting fired. My managers who were happy 1 year back who all were backing my every decisions now finding faults in my every steps. Though I live in the same house with my parents still we have no communication. Because I couldn't agree to there preset perception, old false believe. I couldn't convince them the correct things. Very small these us becoming a big issues. The problem started when my wife got pregnant and I decided to send her to her parents for safe gestation period against my parents will. They wanted the delivery to be in my area. Now there is miles of gaps between me and my parents. My wife and me daughter is in our house with my parents but still l am deserted. Please help me.

Psychologist,
Dear lybrate-user, all your intentions seem to be good and leaning towards fairness, caring and supporting each other. However you must realise that our decisions impact others as well and if they are not satisfied with your decisions, they have a right to voice their concerns just as you have a right. 2. Every story/ picture/ incident has various perspectives and angles to look at from. You seem to be seeing the issue of corruption from your perspective but have not taken into consideration that people whom you fire have families to support or that firing will impact them adversely and the team in number of ways. These employees might have been taking money on the side. But we're they productive and the company grew because of their hard work. Did your bosses want your team to be fired or they were willing to accept some faults over some strengths. You need to see the larger picture and then take a decision, which is wise and workable in the longer run. You seem to have gained a lot of unpopularity over 1 year time. Please examine your actions, and try to see them from the eyes and perspectives of others as well because you don't take any action in a vacuum thinking that others will be fine with all your decisions. Please learn to weigh the pros and cons of your decisions and take action after that. 2. Regarding your wife, again your intention was good to let her have rest and a safe delivery, but your parents were against this decision. Did you try to find out their reasons. Even if they are old and false beliefs. Who are you to judge them? sooner or later. What you believe in will become outdated. So should you not get respect and acceptance for that? their lives have been spent seeing that daughter in laws live with inlaws and deliver. Maybe they feared social ostracization from their community and peers? isn't that a genuine concern? maybe they are dependant on your wife to have their needs met. Isn't it best to find another route so that your wife and they both are taken care of? an open communication always helps to clear doubts and any misunderstanding. However if your parents are very rigid in their thinking and you don't find reasonable reasoning working out with them, then telling them that: you really wished that your wife could stay back and help them, but she's not well and needs rest as well, and if you agreed for this amicable, you would be really happy and peaceful. You could have looked for an alternate source of help etc for your parents. Basically, please remember to include others in decisions which are very important and will impact others as well. Learn to be flexible, tolerant and understanding. Sticking only to your principals and working will not take you far. Living in society with its negatives and positives is a fine balance which you need to achieve to be a successful individual.

If we want to experience peace and happiness, then we must learn how to trust. we all have reasons not to trust. What I mean by this is that we've all felt hurt, disappointed, rejected, scared, and abandoned. We have all suffered in some way (actually, we have all suffered in very similar ways), and we have all felt pain in relationships. You have to realize that trust is not about finding the perfect, trustworthy person; it's about signing up to work through hurt when it arises.Learning to be vulnerable after deep pain can feel impossible. But it doesn’t have to be. If you consciously choose to stay open and trusting, you will find that your world changes for the better in ways you may never have imagined. AS you can see it is all your mindset and not a disease to treat with medicines

What to Do if Diabetes Runs in Your Family Tree

Partners in Health

What to Do if Diabetes Runs in Your Family Tree

Diabetes is so common that it has become a part of our daily life. Almost every 7th person on this earth is affected with this dreaded disease. Therefore, it is not uncommon to find someone in our family affected with Diabetes. Let us see what can we do to keep our affected dear ones healthy, free from complications and lead a productive life, along with preventing others in the family from becoming Diabetic.

Changes Required in Family:

  • Diet: Diabetes is basically a lifestyle disease. Changes in our daily routine can help to modify the disease. Remember the so called diabetic diet is not something very special but a very healthy combination of foods. If we incorporate such kind of diet in our daily routine we can always keep our dear ones healthy and can prevent ourselves from becoming diabetic. So ultimately it benefits both. Recent data shows that if one of the spouse is diabetic it increases chances of developing Diabetes in the other partner. This reflects on the bad lifestyle habit of the whole family.
  • Diabetes and family Exercise: Second important aspect required is regular exercise and believe me it's just not possible for a common person to go for exercise with the rest of family sitting at home. It requires a combined effort and hence if one person is diabetic it is always good to change your family lifestyle and start exercising as a whole family.
  • How to Prevent Diabetes in other Family Members: If one person in the family is diabetic there are always more chances of developing Diabetes in other members of the family. It involves preventing obesity by incorporating good dietary habits, regular exercising.

Anyone in family with a history of Diabetes should get there blood glucose checked yearly after the age of 40 and if one has a hectic lifestyle then they should opt for the tests after the age of 30. These involve testing your blood glucose fasting as well as postprandial and also getting your HbA1c checked. If you find any report abnormal, consult your Endocrinologist.

Dear sir,
I wnt to know about my back pain.
When I wake up in the morning bahut jyada hai. Tell me something about it...
Back pain may be due to strain, sprain, weather change etc. *Avoid bending forward while working on lap top or for any other work. *Don’t sit continuously working on laptop etc. Get up periodically and move around. *Restrict bike driving as far as possible. *Don’t carry laptop or any load on your shoulder. Carrying very light loads equally with both hands is better *Sit straight so that back bone gets proper support. A dining chair is better than a laid back sofa. *You can use mustard oil for massage which is good in winter season for relieving pain. Eucalyptus oil is also good *Soft bed will not give proper support to your back bone. Hard bed with thin mattress and thin pillow is better. *Get yourself tested whether you have spondylitis problem. Homoeopathy has a good treatment for this without adverse effects. Take Calc fluor 200--once daily in the morning.
