I am 44 years old, male. I have sick for back pain last 1 year. What can I do for the relief?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned backache as only problem. If you have only localized backache with no other associated symptoms like radiating leg pain, numbness, paresthesias etc, and no systemic symptoms like fever, loss of appetite, loss of weight etc, my advice to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or even tab paracetamol which suits you - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application like dynapar qps spray can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will need to evaluate you further in form of dynamic x rays to look for any instability as a cause for pain and some blood investigations to rule out any deficiencies etc. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Actually you are overweight and whilke standing our legs have to bear our whole body weight and if weight is more our legs will get easily exhausted,so reduce weight by atleast 6-8 Kg.Secondly I think you are not doing any type of morning walks or regular exercises due to which our muscles become weak and our legs muscles being under continuous stress,gets easily exhausted.So I will advise you to start doing a brisk morning walk regularily for 20-30 minutes.At start it will be problamatic for legs but with time everything will be alright.

Hello, your pain seems to be muscular and as you are saying that you drive bike daily so if possible you can take break from drive and can travel in bus/ metro till your pain subside 1. You can apply volini gel 1% local application twice a day for 3-5 days 2. Hot fomentation twice a day for 3 days 3. You can do very gentle massage with olive/ castor oil consult Physician/ me for further management

Apply hot fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural correction- sit tall, walk tall. Extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily. Bhujang asana.

Sir my mother's left hand near shoulder is feeling pain while sleeping in night sometime feels that it is lightly swelled and she is unable to move her hand back ward as right hand In day time it does not pain but in night it pains whats the cause and remedy please help.

It can be symptom of development of frozen shoulder Apply hot fomentation when it pains Take some weight about 1/2 kg in left hand, slightly bend forward & move hand forward & backward like a pendulum, 20times, twice daily Do shoulder stretching, twice daily Do shoulder shrugs, twice daily Do not lift heavy objects with affected hand Avoid lying on left side while sleeping

Headache only cannot confirm spondylitis, it could be cervicogenic headache. But its difficult to say without examining. Sitting for long hours infront of the computer affects our posture and that can result in muscular aches and pain so you should do some exercises at work like neck movements in all direction, also chin tucking exercise, back extension sitting on a chair, shoulder exercises. Also drink lots of water. Use a foot rest and make sure your computer screen is at the eye level and back is properly supported.
