I've married for 3 years but no baby so we tried IVF my wife got conceived but unfortunately heart beat of the baby not come till 8 weeks so doctor advice to clean. We also done that. Now we can try naturally and my wife can conceived? Because we undergone all the test during our IVF for infertility they said unexplained reasons for not getting pregnancy. And they quoted that my wife's ovary is small and egg quantity is less. We want your advice for getting pregnant naturally a and what we want to do yo save our baby? MY WIFE GOT TOTALLY UPSET DUE TO THE LOSS WHICH WE HAD.

MBBS, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Really sorry to hear about your loss. I am sure it must have been stressful. IVF has a success of only 40-45%. There is no harm trying naturally. We have had couples conceive naturally even after IVF. But please keep in mind that with age the number of eggs and their quality will keep decreasing further and this will compromise your chances of pregnancy. AMH is a blood test and good indicator of your egg reserve. If it is less than 1 then I suggest trying naturally for not more than 6 months. There will be medicines which can help this. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi I'm the mother having query. My girl baby is 7wks old and she cries a lot at least once in a day continuously for 4-5hrs before it was in the nite now she has changed to day. She keeps changing her sleep timings too. We try al the ways to make her stop crying. we can do that oly aft 5hrs. Initially I used to feed her every 10-15mins. Now I do it half an hr once or one hr once if she is quite. When will she be normal baby n not a colic baby. Please consider this as priority and answer my question.. I feel like crying when she cries.

Hi I'm the mother having query.
My girl baby is 7wks old and she cries a lot at least once in a day continuously for ...
A 7 weeks old baby does give sleepless nights as stomach is tiny, neck is not stable and the feed should be on demand, rather than as per schedule-every hourly or so. Baby will be a bit stable at 3 months when she will be able to hold her neck and burp properly. & weeks old need not cry due to hunger only, she can be overfed, not able to burp, wet nappy, passing stools irregularly, being handled by lot too many people out of affection and getting cranky in the process. A 7 week old baby needs at least 20 hours of sleep & a good bath every day, there is need to hold the baby upright holding her neck with one hand and patting on her back after every feed so that baby is helped to expel gases in stomach by burping (some babies may take 15 minutes to do so, but it is worth to hold her upright, supported by both arms) give her a good massage every day, foam bath after an hour (i have seen some mothers not bathing baby after oil massage, imagine if you were rubbed oil all over and not washed after some time, you too will become irritable) I am sure you are giving your own milk, if not keep her feed ready as babies feel more relaxed and hungry after bath, take milk and go to sleep for few hours. Do not allow strangers to wake her up out of affection. Use cotton nappies, disposables are not for our climate. On an average 6 nappies per 12 hours, means a change after every two hours. Do not give water/ honey / ors if she is taking your feed or otherwise too.

Lybrate-user, birth control pills taken for a long time, at times inhibits or delays the natural conception process. There can be many reasons for a delay in conception. Please rule out such causes like pcod, hormonal imbalance, uterine fibroids etc. With an ultrasound of the abdomen and complete hormonal assay. Though 8 months is not a very long period, but still these investigations should be carried out. Infertility can be treated excellently with homoeopathy. These medicines have no side effect and are extremely effective.

Treatment and Care for Lower Back Pain

Treatment and Care for Lower Back Pain

Back pain is a common source of pain, which can be acute, subacute or chronic in nature. Back pain is classified along the segments of the spine and can be divided into neck pain, middle back pain, lower-back pain or tailbone pain.

Lower back pain is a type of back pain, which affects the lower back portion of the body. It may occur from arthritis or due to sudden jerking during movement. Lower-back pain may cause serious discomfort and aching and may disable a person from moving about. It should be treated and cared for properly.

Here are several treatments and care procedures for lower-back pain:

  1. Take some rest: Most people who get lower-back pain get obsessed with it and end up getting MRI scans, x-rays done and take injections without recognizing the intensity of the pain. It is advised not to rush into the matter. A simple way to cure the pain is by resting. 90% of lower back pains resolve by themselves in 6 weeks and so you must give your back a break instead of taking medical action and give your back some to heal.
  2. Pills: Sometimes, a lower back pain can suddenly become severe. In this case, you should intake anti-inflammatory pills such as ibuprofen or naproxen. These pills will help you ease the pain. However, you should not take them for more than ten days at a stretch as continuous pill consumption can cause side effects.
  3. Hot & cold compress: Apply a bag of frozen peas or an ice pack to the affected area in your lower back for 48 hours after the pain appears. Every session should be about of 20 minutes and you should take several sessions each day. After two days, repeat the same procedure using a heat pad. The cooling procedure shuts down your blood capillaries, reducing the flow of blood to the affected area. The swelling is then eased. The heating, on the other hand, loosens tight muscles and helps to increase blood circulation.
  4. Replace your mattress: People who sleep on firm mattresses and cushions on their beds are at a higher risk of experiencing lower-back pain. If you sleep on a medium-firm mattress, your chances of getting lower-back pain are less. In case your mattress is sagging or is very old, you should replace it.
  5. Acupuncture: When your lower-back pain is very severe, you can take acupuncture injections, which provide efficient pain relief. The injections change the way your nerves react and inflammation gets reduced.

Lower-back pain is likely to cause great discomfort and trouble. You will be unable to carry out your daily chores because of the pain. Therefore, proper treatment and care are required for lower-back pain.

With the sex on 3rd april beta hcg test will come positive only after 16 th april and urine test on 22-24th april. All the tests done till now are not useful. If she does not get menses by 24 th april you can do urine test. Primolut n will not bring menses if she is pregnant. Menses can be missed by hormonal changes also. As such she has extremely low chance of getting pregnant as sex was just 2 days before the expected date.

Hello Doctor, Pregancy main normal sugar level kitani honi chahiye, aur diabetes main baby ko kya harm ho sakata hai?
sugar level would be same as in normal but high sugar in pregnancy causes over weight of baby, shoulder dystocia may occur at the time of delivery, so in this case operational delivery would be the choice.

Food poisoning with rice dishes

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Food poisoning with rice dishes
Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus can cause acute food poisoning within 6 hours of ingestion of food. B. cereus is likely when rice is the culprit.
B. cereus is able to persist in food processing environments due to its ability to survive at extreme temperatures as well as its ability to form biofilms and spores.
B. cereus has been recovered from a wide range of foods, including rice, dairy products, spices, bean sprouts and other vegetables.
Fried rice is an important cause of emetic–type food poisoning associated with B. cereus.
The organism is frequently present in uncooked rice, and heat–resistant spores may survive cooking.
Cooked rice subsequently at room temperature can allow vegetative forms to multiply, and the heat-stable toxin that is produced can survive brief heating such as stir frying
Two distinct types of toxin-mediated food poisoning are caused by B. cereus, characterized by either diarrhea or vomiting, depending on which toxin is involved. The diarrheal toxin is produced by vegetative cells in the small intestine after ingestion of either bacilli or spores. The emetic toxin is ingested directly from contaminated food. Both toxins cause disease within 24 hours of ingestion.
The emetic syndrome is caused by direct ingestion of the toxin.
The number of viable spores and vegetative bacteria that produce diarrheal toxin is reduced by heating, although spores associated with emetic toxin are capable of surviving heat processing.
Cereulide is heat stable and resistant to gastric conditions.
The ingested toxin itself may therefore cause disease despite sufficient heating to kill B. cereus.
The emetic syndrome is characterized by abdominal cramps, nausea, and vomiting. Diarrhea also occurs in about one–third of individuals. Symptom onset is usually within 1 to 5 hours of ingestion, but it can also occur within half an hour and up to six hours after ingestion of contaminated food.
Symptoms usually resolve in 6 to 24 hours.
Rice–based dishes in particular have been implicated in emetic toxin mediated disease, usually as a result of cooling fried rice dishes overnight at room temperature followed by reheating the next day.
The infective dose of cereulide required to cause symptoms is 8 to 10 micrograms per kilogram of body weight.

Diet for all

To achieve optimum health we tend to listen to advice from all and sundry. Unqualified advice may lead to confusion and illness. So what should people really have in their diet?
It would be wise to include the following in your meals:-

1. Nuts: Pistas, almonds or walnuts. Not more than 6 to 8 daily of each. Preferably early morning before breakfast. Avoid cashew nuts and groundnuts.

2. Fruits: Atleast 2 medium sized seasonal fruits like apple or orange daily. Preferably to be had between meals.

3. Vegetables: They should be cooked minimally. At least one green veg and one sprout. Also have salad.

4. Fish oil: Either 200 gm fish weekly or cos liver oil capsules twice daily.

5. Olive oil: Use extra virgin olive oil 2 tsp per person per day. Preferably as a dressing over salads. Don't use for cooking.

Some tips for having meals:

1. Keep 2 - 3 hours between your dinner and bedtime.

2. Restrict use of salt to less than 1 tsp per person per day.

3. Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water throughout the day. Never have large quantities of water at a time. Generally sedentary workers should not have more than 2.5 liters of water daily. Don't have water immediately after meals. Wait for at least 30 minutes after meals.

4.1 tsp of cow ghee is recommended for essential fats.

5. Don't have more than 300 kcal per meal.

6. Limit every meal size to what fits in a quarter plate.

7. It is advisable to fast once weekly having fruits, vegetable salad and milk.

8. Use minimal sugar in your meals. Stay away from carbonated sodas.

Exercise for all

Indians require more exercise than westerners.

Exercise daily for 1 hour. Break it up as follows:
40 minutes cardio
10 minutes weights
10 minutes office exercise (stretching and walking in the office)

While doing cardio maintain your pulse at about 80% of your maximum heat rate (approx 120 bpm)

Always warm up before exercise and do stretches after exercise.

Stay any exercise routine gradually.

Daily variations in speed and intensity of exercise are recommended and are most useful.

Drink water or light diet 30 min prior to exercise. Have a warm shower after exercise. Never cold water bath.

Stick to your routine despite all odds.

Get a massage once a month.

Don't exercise with sprained muscles. Give them adequate rest.

My wife is 49 years old breast feeding 1 year 2 month old baby girl. Now she notice vaginal liquid discharge. Is it a symptom of menopause? Is there medical support to elongate menstrual cycle?

DGO, MD, MRCOG, CCST, Accredation in Colposcopy
Gynaecologist, Kolkata
Vaginal discharge does not suggest menopause. However if she has stopped menstruating for 1 year then there is a possibility. It may also be related to breast feeding. If no precaution has been taken there is also a small possibility of pregnancy. Therefore I would advice her to do a urine pregnancy test. If negative she can do a hormonal assay- FSH to see if she is menopausal.

Hello, What is the normal menstrual cycle in your case? And is this happening for the first time? As there are many causes of irregular menses apart from pregnancy like nutritional deficiency, PCOS, stress/ tension, excessive exertion, any other or recent medical condition, side effect of any medication, hormonal imbalance, etc. There is an old saying - Prevention is always better than cure! So, recommend you to follow the same, use any contraceptive method (condom, oral contraceptive pills) till the time you don't want to conceive. Once you have decided to plan for a baby, then you may stop intake of any of these methods. So, if you are married or sexually active, get pregnancy test done or else will havee get ultrasound (pelvis) done. Take homoeopathic medication for your irregular menses – Schwabe's Five Phos. And Alfaalfa Tonic – both thrice daily for 1 month.
