Acne is not just skin deep

MD (AIIMS), Clinical Fellow,Skin Oncology(New England Medical Centre & Boston University,USA), Clinical Fellow.Photomedicine(Mass.Gen.Hospital,Harvard Medical School,USA), Clinical Fellow,Laser Surgery(Mass.Gen Hospital,Harvard Medical School,USA)
Dermatologist, Kolkata
Acne is not just skin deep

Acne or pimples is most commonly seen in teenagers and young adults, just around the time the body is undergoing hormonal adjustments. Thus, acne is not simply just a skin problem, but often an indication of internal bodily disturbances. Of course, there are other combinations of aggravating factors at play, like genetics, active sebaceous glands and bacterial organisms that reside within the sebaceous glands. An otherwise easily treatable condition, acne can result in permanent scars if left untreated, often resulting in low self-esteem, social isolation, depression and even suicidal ideation.

  • The skin acts as a window to internal disorders and many individuals with acne are found to have internal hormonal problems like polycystic ovary syndromes or insulin resistance syndromes.
  • Females can have associated excessive hair on the chin, hair loss on the scalp, weight gain, menstrual abnormalities and infertility.
  • Diet does not have a major role in causing acne but cutting down on foods with high sugar content and milk may be useful.
  • Certain medications and creams containing steroids can precipitate an outbreak of acne.
  • Heavy and greasy cosmetics will aggravate acne.
  • Special soaps, face washes, lotions, and so-called unscientific “blood purifiers” are of little help.
  • Acne scars are repaired with newer dermatological technologies and techniques.
  • Just like with any other medical condition, each individual is different and will require a unique investigation and treatment plan. This is based on many factors like other current medical conditions, climate, age, sex, skin type and variety of acne. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.

Hi can you please suggest licorice containing face wash and night creams for glowing skin.
Lotus Herbals Licoricewhite Skin Whitening Cleanser, is good. The best natural way is to apply a thin layer of pure coconut oil and leave it there more so when you go out in sun.

White spots on can occur due to a number of reasons, of which conditions can be mild or severe. The condition can be mild or severe, and generally covers the majority of the skin on a particular area of the body. They may also cause irritation or itching. The occurrence of whites on the face can be extremely distressing. People affected with this problem should obtain medical advice to diagnose what is causing the condition and the suitable treatment. Causes of White Spots White spots on the face occur for various reasons. Understanding some of these reasons may be beneficial in treating the condition. Furthermore, understanding the cause can also help people avoid certain circumstances that increase the risk. 1. Tinea Versicolor This is a chronic fungal infection of the skin. Also known as pityriasisversicolor, this fungus causes discolored patches on the skin as it interferes with the normal pigmentation. The color of the patches may be darker or lighter than the surrounding skin and most often, affects the back and trunk of adolescent males. Exposure to sunlight, hot, humid weather, oily skin and excessive sweating may aggravate the condition. 2. Vitiligo This is a skin condition that results in the loss of melanocyte pigmentation of the skin. This results in white patches that feel as if it is part of the skin. The cause of vitiligo is unclear although it is believed to be an autoimmune disease. However, mild trauma to any area of the skin including the face can also result in the development of vitiligo. Vitiligo can affect the face, hands and feet, elbows and genital area. 3. Idiopathic Guttate Hypomelanosis White spots on the face may also be due to Idiopathic Guttate Hypomelanosis, a skin condition resulting in 2 to 5 mm flat, white spots commonly found on the shins and forearms. This skin condition mostly affects fair skinned people, although it may occur in dark skinned individuals too. The white spots may occur more commonly in people over the age of 40. 4. Pityriasis Alba This skin condition is common in children aged 6 to 12. It is a rash that appears on the face, neck and arms, and is not easily differentiated between normal skin. The rash may be covered with skin flakes resembling light dust. The cause of Pityriasis Alba is not known and is often considered as a form of eczema. This condition is often mistaken with vitiligo. However, while vitiligo has a distinct border, Pityriasis Alba does not. Treatments for White Spots on Face The medical treatment for white spots depends entirely on the root cause that underlies the condition. There are certain things that you can try to accelerate the process of treatment . Some of these mentioned treatments are professional while others are home remedies. Home Remedies .  For treating vitiligo, consumption of ginger juice is recommended as it promotes blood flow. neem seed oil applied to the affected area will also bring beneficial results.  Idiopathic Guttate Hypomelanosis may not require treatment as it is harmless. However, topical steroids and retinoids may help treat the condition.  Treatment for Pityriasis Alba may not be necessary although the application of a moisturizer or hydrocortisone creams may help the disappearance of these patches.  Washing the face with mild soaps and exfoliating the skin at least twice a week with a honey, rice, turmeric and sandalwood powder paste can treat Tinea Versicolor. So identify your problem of white spots with the help of your local doctor so that appropriate treatment is given or send me your picture depicting those white spot along with the complete hitory of your spots,so that I am clear in making a diagnosis.

It is very essential to cleanse and exfoliate dark skin every day just as we do with our faces. When we neglect dark areas while pampering face, this results in patchy dark skin. So follow this daily care routine for getting rid of dark neck. ? Take milk and rub your skin with it. Milk is an excellent cleanser and a toner too. ? After cleansing, use a scrub, preferably natural one, to exfoliate the skin around your dark areas. ? You may mix olive oil with sugar and rub gently to scrub ? Sometimes use another scrub having bleaching agent such as lemon juice. You will find many scrubs here in this article that you can use for daily exfoliation. ? After exfoliating, wash off with water and apply some moisturizer. ? Whenever you go out, apply sunscreen to dark areas along with your face. This will avoid pigmentation. ? Never step out in sun when you apply lemon juice on your skin. This will make your skin darker than before. If you follow the above dark spots care regime daily, you will begin seeing result in a two week?s time. However, do not stop and continue cleansing, scrubbing and moisturizing your skin. Home Remedy Oats is not only good for your overall health but also for your patchy dark spots. As we do not pay more attention towards cleaning our other areas while doing every thing for our face- from cleansing, scrubbing, moisturizing and what not ? our skin folds gets dirty with the oil and fine grit deposits. This makes it look patchy and dark. Oats can be used as a scrub as well as a mask for dark spots when mixed with certain other skin lightening ingredients. Use oats as a scrub for dark spots You will need: ? Oats ? ground it coarsely, do not make fine powder out of it ? Tomato pulp ? Water ? Moisturizer Directions: ? Take the coarsely ground oats powder. ? Mix tomato pulp to it to get a paste like consistency. ? Apply this mixture to your entire effected region. ? Leave it for about 15-20 minutes. ? Now wet your fingers a littles and start rubbing your spots gently in circular motions. The coarse oats will have an exfoliating effect to remove dead skin cells from your dark arreeas ? After scrubbing dark spots with this natural oats scrub for about 5-7 minutes, wash off with water. ? Apply some moisturizer on neck and massage gently. You may use this scrub twice or even thrice in a week depending upon the intensity of dark patchy skin While oats will remove dirt and dead cells, tomato pulp will lighten the skin due to its natural bleaching properties.
