What is PCOD?

PCOD or Polycystic Ovarian Disease is a disorder that causes innumerable hormonal disorders. It causes disruption in the normal menstrual cycle, often delaying it. Having been diagnosed with PCOD makes a woman prone to diabetes, cholesterol and cancer. A large number of cysts develop on the ovaries which enlarge when afflicted by this condition. PCOD can increase the chances of severe muscle spasms during one’s periods.

Causes Of PCOD-

  1. The cysts are mostly caused due to hormonal changes and fluctuations.

  2. It could be genetic.

  3. PCOD can also be a result of an unhealthy lifestyle that includes little rest, inadequate sleep and unwholesome diet lacking in the right nutrients.

Symptoms Of PCOD-

  1. Acne

  2. Excessive growth of facial hair

  3. Weight gain

  4. Difficulty in losing weight

  5. Excessive hair on body as well, including chest, stomach and back

  6. Irregular menstrual cycle. Women may miss their periods, or bleed more than once a month

  7. Extremely heavy bleeding

  8. Severe pain and muscular cramps during menstruation

  9. Problems getting pregnant

  10. Infertility

  11. High blood pressure

  12. High cholesterol

  13. Depression

  14. Other serious hormonal disorders

  15. It can lead to diabetes

  16. It can lead to repeated miscarriages

  17. A major risk of PCOD if left untreated, is that it can lead to endometrial cancer

Diet For PCOD-

A healthy diet along with physical activities and abstinence from smoking can help to reduce the symptoms of PCOD and prevent the disease.

  1. Increase the intake of fresh, green vegetables.

  2. Cutting down on junk, fried food and most importantly, processed food.

  3. Abstaining from or greatly reducing the intake of alcohol.

  4. Including lots of fibre, roughage in the diet.

  5. Cutting down on sugary, aerated drinks.

  6. Including lean proteins in the diet.

  7. Reduce dairy products as milk may raise the levels of testosterones in the body.

  8. Reducing or eliminating consumption of caffeine may help to increase chances of a fertile reproductive system.

  9. Prevent yourself from giving in to unhealthy food cravings. Eat small healthy meals at regular intervals.

  10. Include fruits, nuts and colourful veggies in your diet. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda.

I am 24 years old. Since last 9 months I have been having scanty periods. Light red bleeding lasting only 3 days . My normal period would last 5 days with proper bleeding. I took ayurvedic medicine for 3 months and for 3 months my periods were fine. But again as soon as I stopped the medicine they started becoming scanty. In Aug 2015 I had a scan that showed polycystic appearing ovaries I haven't taken any tests or treatment for it. I will definitely go to a gynecologist now and get required tests done. As off now. I am worried about this one thing. I read on the net that scanty periods is due to high prolactin which is caused by tumor in pituitary gland. Is this true? I understand a doctor can give diagnosis only after testing but Going by my symptoms does it look like tumor? I am otherwise very healthy. I am not overweight. Even though my periods are scanty I get them regularly. I don't smoke drink and my exercise includes yoga and brisk walk. Also just a week before I am about to get my periods I started breaking acne on forehead which goes away immediately after periods. Please help. Does this problem look worrisome?

Hi lybrate user your problem is more of hormonal imbalance. Please don't worry about prolactinoma if you don't have other symptoms like headache, blurring of the vision. PCOD is known for above period pattern. You should worry about fertility issue. You may need ovulation induction when planning for baby .

You need to have diet plan based on your BMI & activities. Whatever we eat is metabolised by the body for the energy needed to do daily work and the excess is stored as fat. Abdomen is the first place to gain weight and last to disappear. In brief, Weight reduction can be achieved only by reducing the intake of food 1/3 of what you take now. And by appropriate exercise plans for each part like belly, thighs, legs / chest etc. To burn off fat. Some tips 1) Drink three or four cups of water whenever you feel hungry and just before eating food 2) Take boiled or raw vegetable like cucumber, carrot etc. As half of your diet. Then take 1/2 of your total diet as sprouted pulses / proteinaceous food like roti, cooked pulses and remaining with rice or other carbohydrates. Oil or ghee etc. Should be just bare minimum. And do aerobic exercises, running, jogging or at least walking briskly 3-5 KMs and swimming if possible, and in a gym if feasible. The most important is to burn off the energy intake by exercises. There is no short cut or medicines without exercise & dieting to take just as mush food as needed for your activities. The food we eat is utilised for our energy needs and the remaining will be stored as fat which leads to obesity. It is better to do some tests.

So some of you are getting ready for honeymoon right !! some of you might be planning for second child, some of you might be thinking to start medicine for Infertility…So anyone thinking how our child should be like in future…wait don't think we are giving burden to our child before he arrives in this world.

What we mean by that is we need our child to be healthy, intelligent, fair complexion, disease-free, strong..so how this could happen in our child…does this all come in 1 package in our child !! (don’t laugh its true) Answer is yes…I will tell you few stories about this--

  1. In our ancient India, the story of Abhimanyu is well known in the Mahabharata. Abhimanyu, the son of Arjuna, learned how to enter the Chakravyuha. when he was in his mother's womb. Abhimanyu had heard & learnt technique by Krishna to Subhadra during her pregnancy.
  2. When Prahlad’s mother was pregnant, she used to listen to devotional songs. Therefore, even though Prahlad took birth in a Rakshasa family, he became a devotee of Lord Vishnu.

So likewise we have an example of Lord Rama, Swami vivekanand etc. in front of us.

Now main point, Ancient Indian medicine has recommended need for the mental, spiritual and physical preparation of the mother before childbirth. Ayurveda describes preparation of the couple planning pregnancy, three months prior to conception.

Because pregnancy should be by choice, and not by chance. The beginning is by pinda shuddhi or the purification of the gametes (sperm and ovum). If the couple is not in a state of mental stability and calmness, even if they are physically fit, they cannot give birth to a healthy child. This mental calmness and stability ("Sathwa Guna") of mind is closely related to one's food habits and many other factors. Abstinence from spicy foods and addictive substances is advised.

Moreover, in this fast running lifestyle where food adulteration, pesticides in vegetables, pollution in air, Chemical & preservatives usage in all items makes our body, mind as well as the quality of sperm and ovum also less. To overcome the effect of all this negativity, we require building a strong positive environment so that our child gets protection before birth only.

So now how we can plan this Ayurveda Garbha Sanskar Programme
"MEGHDHARA" has the answer for this “THE AYURVEDIC WAY OF PLANNING PREGNANCY”

Ayurved Garbh Sanskar Program mainly consists of....

  1. Beej-Shuddhi by Panch Karma 
  2. Garbhadhan-Vidhi and Aahwaan
  3. Pusavan Samskar 
  4. Garbhini Paricharya

1. Beej-Shuddhi by Panch Karma:
Prior to conception, it's very important that the Matrubeej(Ovum) and Pitrubeej(Sperm) has no deformity and are pure in a biological sense. Impure or deformed Beej are responsible for hereditary deformity and improper concievation resulting in unhealthy or a baby with congenital deformities. In Ayurveda, Matrubeej and Pitrubeej are purified by means of an appropriate cleansing procedure called Panchkarma.

2. Garbhadhan-Vidhi and Aahwaan:
It’s the procedure of conception..where we need to form the environment for suitable to our child before doing Maithun (Intercourse)..so that we get child with fair complexion, healthy and devoid of bad environment effect. Like we decorate our house to welcome the new guest.

3. Pusavan Sanskar:
It is carried out after up to 3 months of conception. Pusavan Sanskar mainly is meant of good and healthy child birth after delivery. Due to that child gets more immunity, health and intellectual power.

4. Garbhini Paricharya:
There are guidelines for food and mental attitude to be maintained by a mother during pregnancy. As the fetus grows in the womb, it gets various organs and mental abilities called Indriyas and Mind with the course of time during the nine months of its stay in the womb at a very specific time which is well-described in the scriptures of Ayurveda which being supported by modern research also.

I think now you understand the concept of garbha sanskar and how its beneficial for our child’s future. So plan accordingly to give gift to your child prior to birth. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ayurveda.

*To control the oily secretion you should maintain your hormonal level. Because imbalance in hormone level causes excessive oily secretion on face. So do not take stress and do exercise daily such as running, jogging. Do long breathing pranayams daily for 10 minutes. • Drink 7 -8 glass of water daily. Apply rose water on your face daily for 5 minutes. * Take proper sleep of 6 to 7 hrs daily. • Use a face pack of fuller's earth (multani mitti) with rose water one time in a day for seven days. It removes toxins from skin. *You can apply cucumber juice or mixed with curd for 5 minutes and rinse with water.

Hi sir/ madam I used to browsing daily and I use whatsapp and messenger to chat with friends both boys and girls now a days I am addicted to that those messages are revolving around the mind even when I am in class and the persons also remember too much after my college timings I addicted to chat in this way I lose my valuable time so I uninstall those apps but thinking that am I wrong and am I selfish to uninstall the app and not responding to friends but I am very fond of studies in these days I lose my valuable time and thinking too much abt that chatting and their words even when I sit for study those words are come into my mind and disturbing me a lot it leads to headache please help me to get rid of this problem and if you do so you save me from that disturbances and I am very curious about studies some times I cry myself for doing this and these thoughts spoiling my studies I am a Intelligent and hard worker but now I am not getting that much of patience to study sir please help me sir please I am very curious about studies and I love that because of these thoughts I am losing concentration and interest even my heart says study well but I am neglecting that please do me a favour to get rid from this this.

I can understand your problem. Please disconnect internet use the phone for urgent purpose only. Or please change the handset. If anything needed please talk in phone. Better to not carry phone to college. For studies time there is no usage of phone. If any body think about us it is unnecessary to us. We received so many messages just we read it leave it. We cannt answer everything. The person may think about to me whether good or bad it is not my business. I do not like it. Give self affirmations like this. Do not care about these messages. Please delete whatsapp or disconnect internet package. Sincerely follow 21 days after that it may become attitude. Do not care anybody. And do not think about others. Friends time is limit it will develop our capacity not destroy our work. So please make a good time table on work do the wok slowly. Concentrate on studies. Please do not entertain these type of activities. Nobody should not save when we are troubles. Our hard work only helps to us. Ok best of luck. My best wishes.

You are undergoing hormonal changes at 44, menopausal time women do have hot flushes. 40-50 is time for menopause and it never stops suddenly. Though few women may be lucky. The heart is at risk of attack, bp may go up get tested for eyes bone density ecg, echo blood tests for sugar and total lipids ultrasound whole abdomen write back with reports and period history.

Dear friend, it is very good that you believe in natural thing. For good skin good health is required, so please take balance diet and a plenty of water daily. Take some salads and fresh fruit and milk daily. Start some physical exercise to digest these. You will soon find good. Result. Any ayurvedic medicine may be given to increase the effect.

it's better to plan a good diet and take whey protein instead of mass gainer. Mass gainer could have side effects. your Diet is 80%. So increase your protein intake and have good complex carbs. Add nuts and dryfruits curd eggs chicken to your diet. and load with carbs when you have to exercise for chest and biceps.

When people are very scared they tend to increase urination and may increase bowel movement. You should meet with a counselor and deal with your fear. The stress that you feel is not dependent on the stressor: It is entirely dependent on your perception of stress. Life is difficult no doubt, as a general rule, but what we do adds to the stress in our response. We add to the stress of life instead of reducing it or learning to deal with it. Many of us follow a policy of avoidance. We cannot do that all of our lives. So the first thing to do is to change your perception. For example, look at it as a challenge that you would like to meet with a positive outlook. See everything as a gift from God to perform as though you are doing it for Him. God never gives us work to do beyond our capacity. Build a good constitution mentally, emotionally and physically to combat stress. Eat healthily, sleep well, and exercise regularly. Talk about your emotions regularly to a good friend or counselor every day. Learn stress management techniques. Do Yoga and meditation. Pray every day to God to give you the strength, and offer your work as a prayer to Him – you will give your best and you will feel so satisfied when you do it well.

Medication will not help at this age, you should try Exercise like stretching swimming regularly yoga like Tadasan and Sarvang asana. play Basket ball regularly. Take proper balanced nutritios and protein rich diet. *Mix two tablespoons of ashwagandha powder in a glass of warm cow’s milk. 1. Add sugar or jaggery according to your taste and mix well. 2. Drink it every night before going to bed at least for 45 days to increase your height. I suggest you to follow these exercises on regular basis in order to get result.

Take over-the-counter medicine for headache if intolerable pain. Eat 3-4 servings of fruits everyday. Avoid carbonated drinks and spicy food. Drink plenty of liquids. Eat smaller meals. Avoid constipation. Hope this helps u. Consult if required.
