All About Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

MBBS, MS - ENT

All About Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is among the common causes of vertigo. It is the sudden sensation of the spinning of your head which occurs with the change of position of your head. It is a disorder of the inner ear. It occurs when calcium carbonate crystals accumulate in large numbers in any one of the ear canals and stimulate abnormal fluid movement in the inner ear. This sends false signals of head movement to the brain. This can also crop up post head injury. Rolling over the bed or quick head movements like when sitting up in bed can also trigger this condition.

The common symptoms of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo are as follows:

  1. Vomiting and nausea
  2. Vertigo blurred vision
  3. Intense dizziness
  4. Loss of balance

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo may be treated in the following manner:

  1. Medication to get relief from the spinning of your head.
  2. Epley's Maneuver involves transportation of the calcium particles to a different part of the ear which will no longer cause any problems.
  3. Brandt-Daroff exercises.
  4. Sometimes watchful waiting can help a person to recover without having to undergo any other treatment but it is a long process and often involves risk factors.
  5. Surgery: This option is used rarely when other treatments fail.

A very important thing to remember is that vertigo can lead to falls and driving should be avoided. The patient will need support during an episode to avoid injuries. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ENT specialist.

Hello For oily skin type, it's better to use facial cleanser containing SALICYLIC acid ; u should use gel based non comedogenic sunscreen lotion. Choice of face cream depends upon your priority. Pl. Give me a permanent remedy for ULCERATIVE COLITIS for which Iam taking MESACOL 400 MG FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS.

General Physician, Alappuzha
It is a remitting and relapsing disease and the medication like Mesacol is the only remedy If your symptoms are severe, you will need to be hospitalized to correct the effects of dehydration and malnutrition that diarrhea causes. Surgery is necessary when there is massive bleeding, chronic and debilitating symptoms, perforation of your colon, or if there is a risk of cancer. A barium enema and a colonoscopy can detect these serious problems. Surgical options include proctocolectomy with ileostomy (the most common surgical treatment) and ileoanal anastomosis.

It is important to understand the relation between tomato seeds and kidney problems so that one can avoid unnecessary panic over this subject. A number of studies have shown that the consumption of tomatoes or tomato seeds does not lead to the development of kidney problems. However, tomato seeds can be harmful to people who are already suffering from kidney stones and other kidney related problems. In such cases, tomato seeds are harmful for the kidneys as they are very high in oxilates, which can lead to the accumulation of calcium in the body, resulting in kidney stones. Therefore, people who already suffer from kidney stones or are more prone to developing kidney stones should stay away from tomato seeds and tomato based products.

This is nothing but early ejaculation. Most of the cases of early ejaculation in our country are due to faulty practice or over expectations or ignorance and can be relieved just by understanding the physiology and anatomy of human sexual organs. I'm definitely sure that your frequency of sexual inter course would have decreased as the time passes. The production of semen in our body goes on for 24 hrs 365 days and if you won't remove it by regular (read daily) sexual inter course, the bag containing semen in our body will become full and you'll ejaculate earlier than your normal. Hence, your problem can be solved just by increasing the frequency of sexual inter course. Don't worry!

I have a problem that my hands are swollen and I have pain please suggest me medicine.
You should get tested for the reason of swelling. Taking just pain relief tablets is a systematic cure and on long term can give you side effects.
