Ways That Can Help You Manage Bladder Cancer

Ways That Can Help You Manage Bladder Cancer

Statistics report an approximate 38.5% of men and women are diagnosed with some type of cancer during their lifetime. Getting widely prevalent, cancer is a deadly disease. However, due to the continuous efforts in the field of medical science, several treatment methods offering positive results are on the evolve.

Scientists have made great progress in discerning the characteristics of normal and cancer cells in the bladder and also an insight into how this helps the cancer cells to grow and spread to other parts of the body. They are now trying to utilize this knowledge for developing new ways that can treat bladder cancer and others.

  1. Screening and diagnostic tests: The newly developed tests are now able to look for different substances in the urine that can help in finding whether there is bladder cancer. They are primarily used for diagnosing bladder cancer or to look for risks and chances of recurrence in individuals who have already been treated. Researchers are now on the way to find out whether these screening tests can help in finding out bladder cancer in people who don't exhibit any signs or symptoms.
  2. Surgical intervention: These days, surgeons are making use of the newer approach to cystectomy where the surgeons use robotic arms for performing the surgery. It is commonly referred to as robotic cystectomy, and it allows the surgeon to operate through small incisions in place of a single large one. It helps the patients to recover much quicker. It can also be used in other forms of cancer such as prostate cancer.
  3. Immunotherapy: There are immunotherapy drugs now available for treating bladder cancer. It is a treatment that uses the immune system of the body for fighting against cancer which is accomplished using substances that restore the immune system to fight the invading cancer cells effectively.
  4. Photodynamic therapy: Photodynamic therapy or PDT is now under study to find out whether it is useful in the treatment of early-stage bladder cancers. In this treatment, the surgeon injects a light-sensitive drug into the bloodstream. After that, a special form of laser light is concentrated to the inner lining of the bladder with the help of the cystoscope. The light alters the composition of the cancer cells which destroys itself.
  5. Intravesical immunotherapy: This is yet another form of immune therapy that has already been used for the treatment of other cancers. BCG is a type of intravesical therapy where a germ is injected in liquid form into the bladder. This causes an attraction of immune cells to the lining of the bladder which invariably kills the cancer cells.
  6. Targeted therapies: As the researchers can gather more information regarding the alterations in bladder cells which cause them to become cancerous, they are also developing the drugs which can be helpful in targeting these changes. They may be effective in conditions where other chemo drugs fail, and they lead to fewer side effects.

Thus, if you are diagnosed with bladder cancer, do not lose hope but persevere and stay positive to get cured.

Patient has been diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Grade 3 - Nottingham Histologic Score - 3 + 3 + 3 = 9. Can you suggest the prognosis? The tumor is NOS in right break measuring 24-22-14 mm. I have attached the report also. Please let me know if it is curable and what are the chances of relapse.

MBBs, MD - Medicine, DM - Oncology
Oncologist, Cuttack
In Breast cancer prognosis depends upon age, tumour size, nodal status, grade, ER/PR and Her 2 nu status, stage of the disease etc. As the stage increases recurrence risk is also increases. ER/PR positivity is a good prognostic factor and Her 2 positivity is a poor prognostic factor. As I have not mentioned the correct stage and other factors it is difficult to predict the survival as well as relapse.

Prostate Operation - Quick Tips To Help You Recover Fast!

Prostate Operation - Quick Tips To Help You Recover Fast!

A prostate operation involves the removal of a part of the prostate gland or sometimes the removal of the entire prostate gland. Such a surgery is a serious one and several recovery tips must be followed by a patient to ensure quick and successful healing.

Here are some important tips for recuperating from a prostate operation:

  1. After the surgery, you need to spend up to three days in the hospital for initial recovery. You might be given fluids, which go directly into your veins until you fully recover from anesthesia.
  2. After the operation, normal urination will be disrupted in the beginning, as the urethra stays swollen. Urinating gets a little difficult and uncomfortable for a few days after the removal of the catheter.
  3. You may feel fatigued and may feel under the weather for some weeks after a prostate operation. So you must take things easy for at least two months.
  4. Avoid lifting or moving heavy objects for some weeks following the surgery. Do not perform any exercise, which causes strain. You should ask your friends and family members to carry out chores for you.
  5. After becoming slightly stable you should start gentle exercises. Walking is an effective remedy, which helps in blood circulation and lowers the risk of getting blood clots in the legs.
  6. You should drink lots of water during the recovery stage. This will reduce the risk of getting a urinary tract infection and also help in clearing any trace of blood from your urine.
  7. For improving bladder control, you should perform several pelvic floor exercises.
  8. In case of any kind of pain, you can take over the counter painkillers to ease the pain.
  9. It will take you a time span of three to six weeks for total recovery after a prostate operation. You should consult your surgeon about the best time to return to normal daily activities.
  10. You can get back to work soon, but it depends on your nature of work. Office jobs are not much of a problem, but in case of physical labour, more time is needed before you can resume your duties.
  11. Activities such as driving can be started quite soon after initial recovery. However, it varies from person to person. Some people may get back to driving within two weeks while some may need a month.
  12. You have to wait for 6 to 8 weeks after a prostate operation before getting back to sexual activities.
  13. In case you experience high fever, pain during urination or the inability to urinate, you must consult your doctor immediately.
  14. It takes a person several weeks to recover from a prostate operation completely. Initially, total rest is required. But eventually, he can return to normal activities and lead a healthy life.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Those are the side effects of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is an immunosuppressant therapy and while a patient is already suffering from cancer she has already a low immunity over it again an immunosuppresant dosage it will make the patient feel low. I need the detailed report and prescriptions of the treatment she is undergoing then I can say whether I will proceed with Homoeopathy or not. So you need to send the reports and if the case can be talen then book for my consultation and I will suggest you with the medicines and needful. HOMOEOPATHY IS THE ONLY STREAM WHICH ACTS ON NANO PARTICLE STATE WHICH IS NECESSARY AND FRUITFUL IN MALIGNANCY AS IT CAN HIT THE CAUSE IN TH ROOTS and without any side effects effectively. There is no need to have diet modification before turp or prostatectomy. You just have to confirm if he needs surgery or not.
