Often I get anger for silly things how can I control my anger. What are the things I need to follow to control my anger can you pls help me out?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
If it is of recent origin, which I suspect, then look back and see what has triggered off this reaction. It has to do with anger. When you have identified it you can work to out with a counselor. If not it may be of some past event in your childhood, in which case we may have a more serious problem. You and your parents would do well to visit a counselor and trace the feeling of anger from childhood. This may have a major bearing and could lead to complications if not dealt with soon. Anyway, you must do vigorous exercise everyday and that will expend the energy and leave you with the memory to deal with. You will also need to check whether you are acting angry when you are really scared. In that case you are escalating anger over the fear to cover it up. This will not deal with the fear and you will need to investigate that and deal with that instead. It is not advisable to ‘ruminate’ over this feeling as it will feed into an impulse and you may lose control over that and do something inappropriate. None of the feelings are to be controlled. The way you express them has to be appropriate. Now anger is pure energy and people mistakenly think that they must express anger violently, or aggressively, or they can damage something, or throw a fit, or kill, or hurt, or withdraw, etc. These expressions can be followed, if they are appropriate to the situation. You can instead simply talk about the feeling, write about it and share it with someone who understands; scream and shout in a situation which warrants it and so on. When the expression is most suitable, the repercussions are minimized and the other person tends to understand and is willing to apologize and sort out the matter. Many of us are inclined to worry about the consequences of expressing anger and use fear to suppress the legitimate expression. You can exorcise your anger out of your system by exercising, but it is the energy that is expended not the feeling. Unexpressed feelings will hurt you back by clinging on to a favorite organ and troubling it enough to cause it to malfunction or lead to its total dysfunction. You can also hand over the feeling to God, if you are a spiritual person, and very effectively too. All feelings must be expressed without exception.

I am a student and my memory is too weak, I can't learn my chapters so please help me to grow my memory.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food.

I am research student. I am mentally depressed and not able to focus to any work.
You can try these things given below - 1. Take a deep breath- you can repeat several times: Inhale slowly to a count of four, starting at your belly and then moving into your chest. Gently hold your breath for four counts. Then slowly exhale to four counts. 2. Get active- a brisk 30- to 60-minute walk “releases endorphins that lead to a reduction in stress.” You can start today by taking a walk. Or create a list of physical activities that you enjoy, and put them on your schedule for the week. Other options include: running, rowing, rollerblading, hiking, biking, dancing, swimming, surfing, step aerobics, kickboxing and sports such as soccer, tennis and basketball. 3. Sleep well- Not getting enough sleep can trigger anxiety. If you’re having trouble sleeping, tonight, engage in a relaxing activity before bedtime, such as taking a warm bath, listening to soothing music or taking several deep breaths 4. Challenge an anxious thought - “We all have moments wherein we unintentionally increase or maintain our own worry by thinking unhelpful thoughts. These thoughts are often unrealistic, inaccurate, or, to some extent, unreasonable 5. Say an encouraging statement- Positive, accurate statements can help to put things into perspective 6. Stay connected to others- “Social support is vital to managing stress. “Talking with others can do a world of good.” Another option is to get together and engage in an activity that improves your stress, such as taking a walk, sitting on the beach or going to a yoga class. 7. Avoid caffeine- there are some substances that exacerbate anxiety. Caffeine is one of those substances. 8. Avoid mind-altering substances- “While drugs and alcohol might help to reduce anxiety in the short term, they often do just the opposite in the long term 9. Do something you enjoy- Engaging in enjoyable activities helps to soothe your anxiety. For instance, today, you might take a walk, listen to music or read a book 10. Take a break- It’s also helpful to build breaks into your day, a “simple change of pace or scenery, enjoying a hobby, or switching ‘to-do’ tasks.” “Breaking from concerted effort can be refreshing.” 11. Problem-solve - how you can address the stressors that are causing your anxiety. Today, make a list of these stressors and next to each one, jot down one or two solutions. 12. Pick up a book- There are many valuable resources on anxiety, which teach you effective coping skills sorting out the above things will help you avoid STRESS and its effects. Dear , these incidents has nothing to do with memory loss or some organic problems. Busy people do forget things. If you are stressed, anxious, you forget many things. That is not loss of memory. That is stress, anxiety and being busy. Therefore do not misunderstand. Counseling definitely can help you. Let me know if you are willing for telephonic counseling sessions. Take care.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Memory and mind power depends on three aspects. Understanding, retention and recollection. Recollection is easy if your retention is proper and flawless. Retention is possible when you are able understand what you read or learn. To understand you should have concentration. Concentration comes from effective learning techniques based on creative and active learning. Physical exercise, outdoor games, entertainment, socializing coupled with systematic learning improves your memory and mind power. Brain games like sudoku and jigsaw puzzles helps too. I suggest online education counseling. Take care.

Hello, depression is a symptom cluster which are complexly interactive. Hence it requires a well tolerated treatment that provides both acute symptom relief and continued benefits without side effects. Allopathic medicines for depression have many known side effects like nausea fatigue and drowsiness insomnia increased appetite and weight gain dry mouth blurred vision, etc your laziness and lack of energy are mostly due to your medication. Your problem of difficulty in breathing is because breathing is a huge component of depression. Shallow breathing pattern is commonly observed in people affected by depression. You should walk barefoot on ground daily for 10-15 mins, this is called earthing- by this you absorb free energy from earth, you gain benefits of reflexology. You can consult me for a safer alternative to treat depression. Regards,

When certain negative emotions are suppressed, they get internalised and start affecting our body. I think this is what is happening to your friend and that is why he is having stomach irritation and weakness, he is under stress and have a few suppressed emotions. Encourage him to share and discuss his worries/problems with you or any one else whom he trusts. He needs a healthy outlet for his emotions. By talking to others, his problems may not be resolved, but he will get a different perspective, he will know a few other options to handle his issues and most importantly, he will be relieved of his troblesome thoughts.

It is natural to feel low and miss the person you have lost. However if it is interfering with your sleep, studies or general well being, or if you feel suicidal, you need to consult a psychiatrist. It is common to feel low, cry, feel like you are alone, or lose your self confidence. Usually time is the best healer. However if things are too difficult to handle you should talk to a psychiatrist or counselor. Confide in someone close to you, who will support you in this difficult time. Don't cut off from friends or family, even if you feel like you want to be alone.

Dear lybrate-user-you say you are a patient of depression- who has made the diagnosis? please see a qualified and trained psychologist at the earliest. Psychologist is an expert in diagnosis by psychological testing and counselling/psychotherapy i. E. Treatment without medicines. Psychiatrist gives medicines only. Treatment started earlier will control the problem very fast. Get proper diagnosis first followed by right treatment. Please get diagnosis confirmed first then take medicines as advised. It is possible that problem is psychological-then it will not be cured by medicines. You will need psychotherapy.

I have pain in my body and feeling low energy as I was having cold and cough. What should I do?

MD - Alternate Medicine
Acupuncturist, Chennai
I have pain in my body and feeling low energy as I was having cold and cough. What should I do?
= pain in your body means you have less oxygen in your body and having more carbon dioxide. - you have cold and cough, that also the reason of less oxygen. - because of cold also lead pain. - first you have to remove your cold completely. I can give some tips below and to be followed. 1. Take a cup of milk add with 3 to 4 garlic cloves and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper with turmeric powder, boil it and consume it (chew the garlic cloves first then drink the milk), every morning before food for 1 week. 2. Use mustard oil for cooking minimum of 1 teaspoon and maximum of 2 teaspoon per day. 3. If you don't relieve from body pain and cold & cough, inform.
