I have a son aged 3.4 years. Everything is ok but we are worried about his digestion or the appetite. Many a times it happens that while having his food he gets a cough which is followed by puking out of his food fully. Later we again have to feed him but he intakes less food as compared to earlier. Please suggest.

Frequent small meals will help. Don't stuff food in the mouth or force feed. If the weight of the baby (13-14 kg) is OK, dont worry.

Mother might be having problem of retracted nipples which the baby can't hold in his mouth. So help of a senior lady can help this by doing massage of the nipples. Always try to give breast feed directly through sucking otherwise milk secretions will be reduced gradually. --you can use a blunt forcef to hold the nipple and put in mouth of baby. --baby's are very smart. After feeding with bottle (which require no effort) they will avoid breast sucking as it requires effort. --always avoid feeding with bottle.

Prevention: Spread of Conjunctivitis

Prevention: Spread of Conjunctivitis

If you have conjunctivitis, you can help limit its spread to other people by following these steps: Wash your hands often with soap and warm water. Wash them especially well before and after cleaning, or applying eye drops or ointment to, your infected eye. Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes.

How can we make our kids dry hair, smooth, straight and healthy one? Please help me.

Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi. Give you children diet rich in protein like non-veg, eggs (it's loaded with essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamin b12, iron, zinc and omega 6 fatty acids in large amounts and biotin), different pulses & legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. Walnuts and almonds); iron-rich food like green vegetables, dates, carrots, prunes, green peas; also oats, shrimp, take flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, low-fat dairy products (they also contain whey and casein, two high-quality protein sources), etc. Proper sound sleep of 8-10hrs is mandatory. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of hard water to wash the head rather use boiled water for head wash. Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Cover their head with scarf or cap while stepping outside. Use rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush hair. Regular exercising/ sports is also one of the important point to stay fit and healthy! medication: take homoeopathic rx - schwabe's wiesbaden 200 & alfalfa tonic twice a day for 1 month. Use schwabe's arnica shampoo and hair growth oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). Apply this oil mixed with olive or castor oil (both lukewarm) 2-3 hrs. Before head wash. Give steam or hot fomentation treatment to the hair and head. After each shampooing, use bakson's arnica hair conditioner as well after every head wash. Apart from this, take follihair tablets (multivitamin) - 1 tab. Daily once for 1 month.

Hi my child is 4 year old but very week have only 10 kg weight .not eating properly. please suggest any to Tonic.

Pediatrician, Ahmedabad
Tonic - try with natural appetite booster named as syp. Aptivate (1 tsf) before major meal. But believe me you have to concentrate on calorie rich foods more rather than medicines as those are actually helpful. Medicines have short actions. Planned food and diet improves weight gain. Of-course timely vaccination is again another indirect help, which promotes better health by avoiding frequent infections. Regards.

My baby is premature 7 month. He was born on 18th july 2015. Baby is very active & growing properly. His weight is 3.5 kg. Baby is in AGRA UP. & I am living in Bangalore. I am planning to shift the baby in Bangalore. I am thinking to travelling by AIR to Bangalore. I having by Train option also. Please suggest which mode of transportation will be good for baby by Air or By Train.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS

As the baby was born prematurely there are chances that ductus getting opened up at high altitude and may go for hypoxia. As you can access for medical facilities in any place better to opt for train.

My son is 3 months old and I don't allow him to suck his fingers fearing that it would cause infection, I am very much concern now whether to allow him to suck his fingers or not.

Infants 'unable to use toy building blocks' due to iPod addiction
The Association of Teachers and Lecturers warn that rising numbers of children are unable to perform simple tasks such as using building blocks because of overexposure to iPod and smart phones
Rising numbers of infants lack the motor skills needed to play with building blocks because of an “addiction” to tablet computers and smartphones, according to teachers.
Many children aged just three or four can “swipe a screen” but have little or no dexterity in their fingers after spending hours glued to iPads, it was claimed.
Members of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers also warned how some older children were unable to complete traditional pen and paper exams because their memory had been eroded by overexposure to screen-based technology.
They called on parents to crackdown on tablet computer use and even turn off wi-fi at night to address the problem.

What is Rickets? How to Prevent Your CHILD From the Disorder?

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
What is Rickets? How to Prevent Your CHILD From the Disorder?

A nutritional disorder, the problem of rickets occurs if your child suffers from a deficiency of calcium, phosphate or Vitamin D. It causes softened and damaged bones, skeletal deformities, impaired development of the bone's growth plate (a spot of growing tissue found near the end of a long bone in adolescents and children) and stunted growth.

Here are few very simple ways you can prevent your child from getting it:

1. Having Vitamin D and calcium rich foods - One of the best ways to prevent this nutritional disorder from affecting your child is by making sure he or she have foods that are high in Vitamin D and calcium. Egg yolks, fish oil or fatty fish like salmon and mackerel are some of the Vitamin D foods that your child can have to strengthen his bones. Even foods that have Vitamin D added to it such as cereals, orange juice, milk and infant formula can also be given to your child. Sources of calcium can be soyabeans, nuts, broccoli, cabbage, cheese and yoghurt.

2. Going out in the sun - Considered to be an excellent source of Vitamin D, getting your child exposed to sunlight is another excellent way of getting most of this nutrient, as well as preventing him or her from developing rickets. Although the exposure time may vary from individual to individual, about 10-15 minutes of sun exposure without sunscreen can help.

3. Having Vitamin D supplements - Even the consumption of Vitamin D supplements can reduce your child's risk of getting rickets. Since mother's milk contains less than the recommended Vitamin D amount, infants too need to be put on Vitamin D supplements of 400 IU each day. For teenagers and young children, the recommended dosage is 600 IU of Vitamin D every day.

I want to know that my baby is 1 month old and she spits up milk while sleeping. Is it ok and please suggest me some tips by how can I reduce that.

It may be because the milk might have not reached her tummy and that is why the residual milk comes is not much of a concern but you need to make the baby burp after every feed by holding him upright until you hear him burp.this is important.and always hold him in an angle where his head is always tilted up while feeding.

This is normal to pass 3-4 stool per day. Nothing to worry. If baby is passing loose and watery stool then consult to pediatrician.

Hi exclusive breast feeding is advised for 6 months. After that "weaning" should be started. Start with water, cows milk, coconut water. Then later on gradually introduce to semisolid food. At age of one year baby should eat half of what mother eats.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Ranchi
Feeding tips for baby between 6-12 months of age try variety of foods as by this age increasing the variety the appetite/palatability improves. Add ghee generously if tolerated to increase the calorie value of diet. In compare to protein and carbohydrate calorie value of fat is thrice. Give at least one katori serving at a time of- mashed roti/bread/biscuit mixed in sweetened undiluted milk or mashed roti/rice/bread/dosa mixed with thick dal with added ghee/oil or khichadi with added ghee. Add cooked vegetables in the servings. You can also give dalia/suji ka halwa/kheer prepared in milk or any cereal porridge cooked in milk. You can give mashed boiled potato also. Give banana, papaya, cheeko, mango to meet the vitamin's requirement. Give these servings 3 times per day. Feed the baby in your lap with your hands. Don't force. If needed give small amount and increase the frequency of feeds.

I Am a pott spine tuberculosis patient treatment going since from 4 months and my daughter is 7months running now. As she is not at all taking my breastmilk from 1month she is crying a lot when iam making her to take my breast to give her feed but she is not at all taking please suggest me some trick so that she take my breast again as before because she is becoming thin by having only formula lactogen milk and cerelac.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology

Once you have stopped feeding from last one month, there is very little milk secretion. She must have stopped feeding on you because either milk was very less or u must be giving her bottle milk. There are some galactogauges which can increase ur milk production. If still she is not taking then u can express ur milk in a bowl and feed her with the spoon
