Hi, take tab. Dolo 650 mg 1-1-1 after food for 1-2 days. Keep recording your temparature. If it is too high, do tepid sponging. Wear loose cotton garments. Drink plenty of fluids. Consume light and easily digestable food. Drink boiled and cooled water.

Hello lybrate user, if you are sufering from jaundice the symptoms that you can observe at home may be yellowish discolouration of urine which can also be due to multiplemedication that you might be taking and yellowish discolouration of sclera (eyeball) that dosent happen in every jaundice. So we cannot be sure until we test for jaundice but yes to look for at home you can see for yellowish discolouration of urine and sclera. Hope this helps.

Rice - Busting Common Myths About It!

Rice - Busting Common Myths About It!

Rice though used as a staple in many parts of the world, is still one of the most controversial and misunderstood foods. There are a number of myths associated with this food and now’s time to debunk them. But let’s look at a few facts about rice first.

  • Rice contains high carbohydrate content. A cup of white rice contains 35gms of carbohydrates
  • A cup of white rice contains 165 calories
  • A cup of white rice contains 3-4 gms of proteins

Rice, like all other carbohydrates, ultimately gets broken down into glucose inside the GI track. And glucose is the ultimate source of energy for the human body. There are also two different types of rice, white rice and brown rice. The difference between the two, especially for our health, is substantial.

White rice has very little fibre but brown rice has more fibre and also more vitamins and minerals. Whereas, brown rice has substantial amounts of minerals, which are not present in white rice, such as

  • Phosphorous
  • Magnesium
  • Selenium
  • Manganese

Brown rice contains 3 gms of fibre while white rice has only 0.6 gm. This is a substantial difference too.

Busting Myths

  1. Myth - Rice Contains Gluten: The fact is that rice is gluten-free and it does not cause allergies that are associated with other grains. Gluten high foods are bad for diabetics and those trying to lose weight.
  2. Myth - Rice is fattening: Rice is, in fact, low in fats and is also cholesterol free. Because it contains carbohydrates, rice is a good source of energy.
  3. Myth - Rice has no protein: Protein is the second-most abundant nutrient found in rice. A cup of white rice contains 3-4 gm. of proteins, as a matter of fact. The quality of the rice protein is also very high compared to other grains.
  4. Myth - Rice has high amounts of salt: Rice contains low amounts of sodium.
  5. Myth - Eating rice for dinner makes one fat: High carb foods like rice should be eaten at night as they are metabolised into glucose, our energy stocks. The glucose in the blood is more readily converted into energy at night. Rice and other grains should be avoided during the day as the glucose more readily converts into fat.
  6. Myth - Rice is difficult to digest: Actually, the reverse is true. Enzymes secreted in the human digestive tract are especially good at digesting rice. White rice undergoes a processing system where the germ layers, bran and husk are all stripped off. By doing this, white rice loses much of the nutrition too.

The rice of choice for all of us, therefore, should be brown rice, compared to white rice. This way we shall be getting the carbs for energy and proteins, fibre, vitamins and minerals to stay healthy. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult the doctor.

How is Diabetes realted to Cinnamon?

How is Diabetes realted to Cinnamon?
Did you know Cinnamon is good enough to find a place in your medicine box as well as in your spice rack?
The popular spice may help prevent and combat diabetes by acting as an insulin substitute for people with type 2 diabetes. Cinnamon itself has insulin-like activity and also can potentiate the activity of insulin. Cinnamon has a bio-active component that we believe has the potential to prevent or overcome diabetes.

Chronic Diabetes - What Should You Understand?

Chronic Diabetes - What Should You Understand?

Diabetes is a known and common medical condition in which glucose or sugar levels gradually build up in a person's bloodstream. In such conditions, enough insulin is not present for moving sugar inside your cells. When such a situation arises, sugar is utilized for obtaining energy. Due to this, your body will tend to rely on alternative sources of energy in the muscles, tissues, and organs. This process continues resulting in a chronic disorder.

Symptoms of chronic or Type 2 diabetes
Warning signs of type 2 diabetes usually develop very slowly. You might have it for years without even knowing about it. Due to excessive sugar building within your bloodstream, fluid tends to come out from tissues. In turn, your thirst might increase and lead to frequent and excess urination because of additional water consumption. If you have chronic diabetes and is unaware of it, then gradually fluid might be pulled out from eyes' lenses and lead to blurred vision along with an inability to focus properly.

Some patients with type 2 diabetes also get affected by frequent kidney, skin, bladder infections. Due to high blood sugar level, such infections might take a long time to heal completely. If you possess dark patches and velvety skin especially in the folds of neck and armpits or any other body parts, then it will be a wise decision to consult your physician immediately as it is another warning sign of chronic diabetes.

Besides increasing thirst, another basic and contradictory symptom of type 2 diabetes is increased hunger along with weight loss. Despite consuming more food than usual to cope up with the increased hunger, an individual having high blood sugar may lose weight. You might also feel irritated or tired if the cells of your body are deprived of sugar. Various other symptoms including foot pain, yeast infections, itchy skin, numb feeling, etc. are also present and the signs become severe and more dangerous with the progress of the disease.

What is the perfect time to visit a doctor?
If you notice any of the above mentioned symptoms of chronic diabetes, then that is the best or perfect time to see a physician. It is not mandatory that you will definitely have this health disorder if you observe any symptom within yourself. If you have excessive work pressure for a couple of days, then for sure you will feel exhausted. But, that does not mean your fatigue is the warning sign of diabetes. For being, sure enough, it is best to consult a trained medical practitioner.

Without proper treatment, diabetes can also become threatening to life. This chronic health disorder might result in complications related to heart, and during pregnancy, it can prove deadly.Maintaining a healthy eating habit, controlling weight, performing a daily physical exercise and consuming recommended medications will help in controlling high blood sugar level.

I am a 59 year old male, quite healthy and active. Off late, I have been feeling quite lethargic and tired. I did my Blood Test which showed Vitamin D deficiency and I have consulted my family Doctor who has advised Vitamin D3 injection (Arachitol 6L) - 3 shots over a month. Is there anything else I should look for or test? My diet and appetite are normal. I walk at least 45 mins a day.

Mr. lybrate-user Moorthy, Thanks for the query. The blood glucose levels mentioned show that diabetes is not at all in control. This means either the medication being taken is inadequate or the food intake is much more than that is needed plus there is less physical activity. All these in combination are contributing to the uncontrolled high blood glucose. Following are a few of my observations: 1) Your ideal body weight should be 58.5 kgs. 2) The caloric intake has to be based on this weight (58.5 X 20 cal = 1170 calories per day). 2) This means your total food intake has to provide only this many calories in a day. 3) This means about 2 to 3 idlis in breakfast, or just 2 small dosas, lunch and dinner also have to be on the similar lines. Not more than 1 chapati or roti, a small bowl of rice, plus vegetables, salads, plus curd one cup. 4) No biscuits or any other item made of maida. To me your over all food intake is much higher than needed. Plus there has to be walking as you have been doing. If you have any doubts please come back. Thanks.
