A dominant follicle grows in the ovary with the help of medicines and this than ruptures to release an egg that is fertilised with a sperm to produce a pregnancy. Chances are good varies between 50-80%.

I am 19 years old and I am suffering from PCOS. I was given femilon for 3 months in august 2014. Now this year I did not get my periods for 3 months. Now I got my periods but I am gaining weight, I feel depressed and I get too many mood swings. What should I do?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Primary objective of your treatment is weight reduction and maintain normal BMI of 18-25. This will regularize the monthly cycles and also help you get pregnant. You can take Metformin to reduce weight. You don’t need to take any medicine till 3 months for the menses to come. Only after 3 months of missed menses you should take medicines like progesterone Tablet (Deviry 10 mg twice a day for 5 days) for getting menses. For reducing your weight you should have brisk walk or jogging for 4-5 km daily, high protein diet (fish, chicken, mutton without fat, pulses, mushrooms), low carbohydrate diet (avoid rice, chapatti, bread, poha, upma, idli, dosa, potato, sugar etc and can use bhakri instead) and low fat i. E. Less oil and preferably use rice bran oil. Ovral pills/ Femilon/ Novelon/ Duoluton all are oral contraceptive pills and they are never prescribed for PCOD. There is no point in regularizing menses with Ovral as it will not get cured with it and next month it will be same.. Krimson or Ginette are the options for you, if you are suffering from excessive hair growth, during this time menses will also come regular.

Hi team,
Please provide me a diet chart. I am 26. I am doing night shifts.
Can't maintain myself.
Thanks.
I will tell you what to eat and what not to eat! avoid sugars, sweets, salts, snacks, munching on junk food. Take lots of fresh fruits and salads and clear soups -easily available in can noteens, otherwise carry from home a box of cut fruits and salads, some brown bread, boiled egg, toned milk, curds/ raita with cucumbers etc. Take high protein diet like egg, nuts, roasted chana as snacks as they are filling and keep away hunger pangs.

what is your weight ? pcod is the most common endocrine disorder nowadays and it is a lifestyle disorder. there is usually obesity and insulin resistance associated with it. the complex entity is known as metabolic syndrome. the treatment lies in changing your lifestyle ,eating foods of low g.i. index (low calorific value) and doing exercises to lose weight. try to start them (if not already) and maintain your bmi at 22 as it can only help . as for thyroid , it is usually not curable , so you have to take medicines for that.

Best way out is to get a cuT inserted for your wife which she can keep from three to ten years according to her choice and the second option is for her to take oral birth control pills which she should take only once she stops breast feeding the baby which can be possible say after about one year do the present option is either condoms or cuT

One can get pregnent if you have intercourse during ovulation. It is usually around 14 th day of the periods if you have 28 day cycle. So 12-16 days of your period is ideal time to have intercourse to get pregnant. So if you had periods on 7, then 20, 21, 22 are ideal days. Take care.

Hi, this is slightly private. But whenever I pee or go to the toilet I get a lot of sticky white discharge from where I pee. It isn't there always but sometimes its a lot. My boyfriend is always fascinated by it and wants to eat/lick it but I don't let him. Can I know what is it? Is it normal? I am a virgin. Is it safe for my bf to eat/lick it. Thanks!

Vaginal discharge is normal there is nothing wrong in it except for if it becomes excessive or foul smelling what your boy friend wants to do is your individual choice no comment about it.

This drug will prevent your pregnancy. But you should regularize your periods by taking the drugs and then consult doctor whether you can stop it now and try for pregnancy.

IVF or IUI - Which One Should You Opt for?

MBBS, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, Certified IVF Specialist

IVF or IUI - Which One Should You Opt for?

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF) are two commonly used methods of fertility treatment, which increase a couple’s chance of becoming pregnant.

The Procedure

IUI- IUI is a procedure during which processed and concentrated motile sperm are inserted directly into a woman’s uterus. This procedure is timed according to a woman’s ovulation, and may be performed one to two times in the days immediately following the detection of ovulation. After ovulation a woman’s egg is picked up by the fallopian tube and waits there for the sperm. Since the IUI procedure deposits higher concentrations of good quality sperm close to where the egg is waiting, the chances that the egg and sperm will find one another are increased.

IVF- IVF is the most successful method of fertility treatment utilized today to help couples to conceive. The basic components of the IVF process include stimulation of the ovaries to produce multiple eggs at a time, removal of the eggs from the ovary (egg retrieval), fertilization of the eggs in the laboratory, and subsequent placement of the resulting embryos into the uterus (embryo transfer). The chance of pregnancy from IVF depends primarily on the age of the woman, the cause of infertility, and factors related to the quality of the IVF laboratory.

Success Rates

IUI Treatment: There is a marked difference between IVF and IUI pregnancy rates. IUI has a success rate between 5% and 20%, but it can even be as low as 1-2 %, depending on the woman’s age and fertility levels. The chances of conceiving through IUI is higher if fertility drugs are administered along with the treatment.

IVF Treatment: IVF has a high success rate – between 20% and 35% and it can even go as high as 40%. This may not seem like a lot, but it is very high, considering that an average young and fertile couple has only a 15-20% chance to conceive in a month. It is important to understand what IVF and IUI success rates mean and the factors that affect it before deciding on a fertility treatment. You can also use any reliable online IUI vs IVF comparison tool to determine your approximate success rates with each of these treatments, depending on your age, lifestyle, and medical history.

You should use online sources of information to understand more about fertility problems, how age affects fertility levels, and whether freezing your eggs is a good option for you. However, discuss all these issues with your doctor to ensure that you have the right information and that you have understood it correctly. Fertility specialists provide you with personalized fertility plans based on your health which is why you should always talk to them before you make any decision.
