I have problem in my teeth. Whenever I drink something cold my tooth started paining.

BDS
Dentist, Delhi
Get yourself checked. If it is sensitivity associated then you require professional cleaning by dentist. If cavity is there then you need to go for filling or root canal treatment depending upon severity.

Dentist,
Hi lybrate-user. Yes you can get a treatment for your malallign d teeth but you hv to be more patient wih the attainment of the results you desire for your self as your growth age has been passed and now your dwntist would have to use a bit more complex treatment to move your teeth within your jaw bones. Bt no worrys it still is possible due to the advancements in tecnologies and procedures now a days. I wud advice you to visit your dentist a hve a complete discussion with him or her becaus every patient has different needs and profile in their mind according to which your doctor has to plan the treatment. Hello, bad breath could be because of deposits on teeth surface or food lodged in between teeth. Visit a dentist and get your scaling and polishing done. Brush your teeth twice daily, night brushing is very important. Floss regularly. Rinse after every meal. Visit dentist every 6 months.

Kind of toothbrush to be used by adults: We recommend a brush with soft bristles which helps in removing the plaque and debris thoroughly from the mouth.

Oil pulling, a popular folk remedy can be useful for whiter teeth and as a flossing agent. Slosh your mouth with coconut, sunflower or sesame oil for 15 minutes and then spit it out. It lubricates the gums and provides that extra shine to your teeth.

Have you been brushing your teeth twice daily? If not, start today to keep all dental problems at bay.

I am 18 years old. I want to ask how do I whiten my tooth either by naturally or medical treatments.?

Advanced Aesthetics, BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Hi, there are various method / products available to whiten teeth. The most effective is in-office whitening done by a dental professional. It's usually a one hour procedure in which whitening gel will apply to the teeth and activate by whitening light for 10 to 15 minutes. 2 or 3 such sessions may required.

Few months ago in accident my upper tooth has half broken and closer tooth is paining now and also little bit damaged. I just want to know that what will be expanses for treatment of this. Also I want to tooth implants for both tooths.

BDS, Master of Hospital Administration
Dentist, Patna
You do not need implants if half tooth is present go for rct and cap for both upper teeth in question. Cost will be around 16k to 25k for two teeth rct and cap included. Variation if cost depends on procedures needed during the treatment and type of cap material. The added procedures may be Apicoectomy and splinting. If you go for extraction and implants cost will rise to 50k and above for 2 teeth.

While preparing for rct: getting to know from a dentist if consuming an antibiotic medicine is advisable, as it can help in reducing the infection and swelling.

Hi foul smell or halitosis can be due to some conditions like cavities, tooth abcess, gum disease, food impaction between teeth, tobacco products, alcohol and smoking. If is important to rule out the cause of halitosis. After that treatment plan can be decided accordingly. Rinse your mouth with chlorhexidine mouthwash after each meal. Floss your tooth to prevent food impaction. Maintain proper oral hygiene.

Mouthwash - Why You Should Use it?

PGDHHM, BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
Mouthwash - Why You Should Use it?

Mouthwashes have become a fad nowadays – some simply rinse their mouth with a mouthwash instead of brushing their teeth, the reason being lack of time. While mouthwashes are effective up to a certain extent, the question is can they replace your brush and tooth paste?

Why is Mouthwash Used?

Mouth washes are used for multiple reasons; to prevent tooth decay, freshen your breath and to minimize plaque. It is also known to reduce gingivitis (gum disease) and plaque that harden on your teeth.

In order to understand the efficacy of mouth wash better, you need to know about the ingredients it is made up of. The basic ingredients are cleansing agents, water, alcohol and flavor causing substances. Certain active ingredients are also added to mouth wash which usually vary from product to product. Some of them are:

  1. Fluoride which prevents decay of the tooth by making it more resistant.

  2. Antimicrobials which reduce harmful bacteria in the mouth that lead to plaque formation in the teeth.

  3. Salts, that have astringent properties, act as deodorizers to prevent bad breath.

  4. Substances that reduce bad breath causing compounds.

Advantages of using a Mouthwash are:

  1. Helps in preventing gum disease: Inflammation of the gums and teeth can occur when plaque causing bacteria are present on the teeth. Mouthwashes that contain antibacterial agents help in reducing these bacteria.

  2. Reduces cavity: Mouthwashes that contain fluoride help in reducing cavities that affect your teeth. Cavities are holes in your teeth which form when bacteria in the teeth cause plaque.

  3. Provides relief from canker sores: Mouth wash provides relief from canker sores by reducing the amount of bacteria present on the affected area.

  4. Prevents pregnancy complications: Certain gum diseases release harmful bacteria in the bloodstream that can stimulate early contractions. Using mouth washes provides safeguard against these bacteria, thus, in turn, protecting your baby.

Disadvantages of a Mouthwash:

  1. May irritate canker sores: Mouthwashes which contain alcohol in high concentrations can irritate canker sores in the mouth.

  2. A risk factor for oral cancer: Certain mouthwashes may contain ingredients which increase the risks of oral cancer. It is therefore important for you to check the ingredients before using it.

The Verdict:

Given that the benefits outweigh the cons, using mouthwash is good for you. You should not substitute brushing or flossing with using a mouthwash, though. Rather, it should complement them. If the mouth wash contains alcohol in decent amounts, then you are good to go. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dentist and ask a free question.

I have got small wounds around my mouth and I have a little pain and burning sensation. Can anybody tel me the reason and remedy for that?

These are ulcers I suppose. You should start doing warm saline rinses and apply ulci-heal gel over that ulcers for quick healing.
