My wife recently started experiencing issues while urination. Blood in urine, burning sensation and difficultly while urination. We did sonography and urine test, and it was identified that there was a swelling in her right uterus and urine test indicated infection. After few medications the problem recovered. Again next week she started complaining same. We did the tests again and couldn't find anything else the urine infection. After medications it stopped. But it again started, so we are now worried what happened suddenly. Is there any test which can help us understand what happened suddenly and how this problem can be resolved. Her periods are regular and she had kidney stones which were removed in December 2016. Please advise.

She should drink plenty of fluids orally. Her urine culture sensitivity test may direct further need of antibiotics. Alkalinizing liquids like Syp Cital 15 ml diluted in a glass of water after meals twice to thrice a day may be continued until the burning stops. Local hygiene has to be taken care of and frequent change of pads during menses. Also genital cleaning should be from front to back and not the reverse. She may try a ten day course of Tab Tolterodine 2 mg once daily. It may give symptomatic relief.

I am 39 years old, and I am being treated for bipolar affective disorder alongwith counselling and a specified course of medications. But I have a laziness throughout the day but in the evening time I feel better. Please tell me whether I should consult a hypnotherapist /not? I am from family with severe socio-economic problems.

MBBS, DGO (cal)
General Physician,
I think your psychiatrist is taking care. Why thinking of hypnotherapy? if required your psychiatrist might suggest. That method is also not full proof. Continue his medicines. If feel not satisfied take a second opinion. But remember, you need to continue meds for longtime. Don't discontinue treatment without your doctor's advice.

Whenever I start cleaning my house that day night I feel lot of difficulty in breathing. I'm not able to sleep and I feel my lungs are blocked. I consulted a doctor locally. He said it would be mild asthma and he has given asthalin inhaler for use whenever I feel that congestion. Is it asthma? Is there any permanent cure? How to keep myself fit? Please advise.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Asthma cannot be cured completely. Montemac l is a controlled medicine for allergic asthma. If you are able to remain symptom free by using it daily, I would suggest you to continue it for at least 3 months continuously. I would suggest you to consult an allergist-immunologist who will suggest you allergy testing. This will help you identify substances causing symptoms to you as well as precautions regarding how to avoid them. Also, an allergist may suggest you specific allergen immunotherapy depending upon the results of allergy testing, which may improve your allergy symptoms. Please try to avoid exposure to smoke, dusts and air pollution as much as possible. Also please do not smoke if you are a smoker. A nutritive diet rich in vitamins & minerals including anti-oxidants is very important to support immune system. I would also suggest you regular breathing exercises which help you in a long run.

Hi dear Lybrate user In fissure there is severe pain during passing stool especially in acute anal fissure. This is due to spasm in anal sphicter muscle. If it is not responding to medication then it requires anal stretching or sphincterotomy which will relieve your pain. Consult surgeon nearby you. It is very minor procedure.

for masterbation: You must understand that excess of everything is bad. Same is true with masturbition. Control masturbition. Dont do more than a once in a week otherwise it may cause some weakness. You may take cap. Shilajit & tab. Chandraprabha bhati. One tab. Each morning & evening & also take dhatu paushtik churan one spoon morning & evening. All 3 with hot milk for 3-4 months.

Arousal In Men - 7 Ways To Enhance It!

Arousal In Men - 7 Ways To Enhance It!

It is popular belief that men are more easily aroused erotically as compared to women. However, truth is the reduced sexual arousal, or loss of libido, as it is called in medical circles, is very common. For most people, given the private nature of the topic, it is not openly discussed. Often, the only source of cures comes from reading books and online content. For some, a few close confidants may be aware of the problem. This again builds stress and becomes a major contributor to loss of libido. The best way to break this vicious cycle is to begin by admitting the problem and seeking professional help to overcome it.

There are physiologic and psychologic causes for reduced libido. The most common physiologic problem is low testosterone levels. This can be managed through lifestyle changes including exposure to sun, diet modifications, workouts and stress management. Read on for more details.

  1. Diet: A heart-healthy diet is healthy for sexual life too. A diet loaded with nutrients including fresh fruits and vegetables, fish oils, omega-3 fatty acids, nuts and seeds, etc., will definitely contribute to a healthy sex life too. Avoid processed, canned and packaged foods. Ensure the diet is packed with good amounts of cholesterol, vitamins (A and E in particular), and minerals (zinc and selenium) as these are required for the production of testosterone and thereby, enhancing sexual life.

  2. Smoking: Another major reason for reduced libido (and even impotence) is smoking. Those who have reduced or quit smoking can vouch for connection between sex life and smoking.

  3. Alcohol: While it is popular belief that alcohol allows for a great sexual experience, the truth is far from it. Though alcohol helps shed initial inhibitions, it reduces performance. Therefore, excessive alcohol should be avoided.

  4. Exercise: A healthy heart directly translates to an active sexual life. Any vigorous activity for 30 to 45 minutes (running, jogging, swimming, or cycling) which pumps up the heart works wonders for the sexual life too.

  5. Sun Exposure: Vitamin D is essential for the optional production of testosterone and effective functioning of the male reproductive system. If you can get about 15 minutes of sun a day, great! Else, try vitamin D supplements and see the difference.

  6. Stress Management: One of the major reasons for reduced arousal is stress. When you are stressed about something or the other, the chances that you enjoy a good sex life are very less. Beat the stress and see the change.

  7. Invest in the Relationship: Your partner and you should take some quality time out and invest in building a long-lasting, trustworthy, healthy relationship which will naturally lead to a great sexual life. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a sexologist.
