Does astagen f helps in early pregnancy, why is it prescribed, is it opted during the treatment of infertility?
Dear lybrate user. I understand. Astagen is a bronchodilator, prescribed for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It works by relaxing and opening the air passages to the lungs to make breathing easier. Contraindicated in patients with high blood pressure during pregnancy, uterine infection, miscarriage, heart disease, and hypersensitivity. Talk to your gynecologist. Take care.

If sperm cannot pass through clothes then why my period is due? It is bleeding little daily. What it can be?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology

If sperm cannot pass through clothes then why my period is due? It is bleeding little daily. What it can be?
Sperms needs liquid medium to swim across and enough quantity of sperms should be deposited inside the vagina, to get pregnant. Menses can get delayed naturally because of hormonal changes or weight gain or stress. Which will be self corrected. Ovulation is delayed because of hormonal changes and that's why menses get delayed. You can wait for another month for the spontaneous menses.

I am 21 weeks pregnant. Ultrasound shows normal. My problem is I am not gaining weight even one kg. My doctor is not concerning about this problem. Is that ok to not gaining weight at this week? Please suggest me.

Yes it's okay if you haven't gained weight so far as usually if you had nausea in first trimester you have actually lost some weight like about a Kg or 2 which by end of 5 months you would gain. So at end of 5 months or even 6 months you could be same as your non pregnant. Don't worry. Major weight gain is on last 3 months. Its always good not to gain too much weight.

Mustard oil should be heated upto it's smoking point for cooking or the food tastes bitter. Is this correct. Please tell sir

You are right, mustard oil heating point is higher than other oils like soy oil. One should use little amount of mustard oil to saute the vegetables & cook it by steaming in a thick based vessel with a tight lid, preferably made of iron, like our grannies used to cook on a slow fire. The taste remains better with full value of nutrients of minerals and vitamins. Use soy oil for frying. But do not reuse it. Do not throw it either. Use a spoon of it to make curries, oil is not reheated but mixed with home made tomato purries & spices as a gravy instead of onions which soak more oil.

Preventive Health Care - Ways You Can Follow It!

Preventive Health Care - Ways You Can Follow It!

We have often heard that prevention is better than cure. After all, who would want to spend time being sick, if it can be avoided and no day ever needs to be a wash out. Well, it can be said that as long as a person is willing to put in a little effort, there can be dividends in the form of not having to pay multiple visits to the doctor. Let’s find out how exactly to go about practising preventive health care.

  1. Quit smoking: As it says on the packets of cigarettes, it has been proven beyond any shadow of doubt that smoking is injurious to health. As a matter of fact, the habit of smoking can not only lead to cancer as it is most commonly associated with, but also result in other ill conditions and diseases. Quitting smoking is indeed the most important tenet of preventive health.
  2. Sleep well: Many people think that the practice of sleeping enough for adequate health is overrated, but it is just so very important. A number of people are putting their health in jeopardy in the long run by not making the right choice of prioritising sleep over other activities. There are various risks a person exposes himself or herself to by not getting enough sleep. Inadequate sleep does not provide the body with the amount of rest that is needed for it to repair, heal and start afresh.
  3. Cut down on alcohol: Alcohol is something that is enjoyable as long as the limits regarding the consumption of it are maintained. A general rule is that no man should be having more than two drinks a day and a woman should not go beyond a drink. When these limits are not paid heed to, the risk of some life threatening diseases such as cancers as well as liver cirrhosis spikes.
  4. Follow proper diet and exercise: While it is true that degeneration of the joints of a person over the course of time is an inevitability, there is a lot that can be done by a person who wants to avoid the prospect of having his or her quality of life compromised by arthritis. Following a strict diet, avoiding fast food and drinking plenty of water helps in keeping yourself healthy. Similarly regular workout and exercising prevents a person from being overweight, which makes a substantial difference in fighting arthritis! If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a General Physician.

I do use climax delay condoms to improved my timing. Will it cause any side effect?

MD-Ayurveda, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Sexologist, Haldwani
Hello- Yes they will. Climax delay condoms contain benjocaine etc which are used as local anesthetics. Prolong use of local anesthesia in a particular organ will permanently desensitize the organ by damaging the nerves of the penis and you will not going to have a erection at all.

Banana Health Benefits

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Banana Health Benefits

Bananas are one of nature’s great snack foods –

Potassium -

Potassium is an essential mineral which maintains proper heart function and regulates your blood pressure. Potassium-rich foods such as bananas actually offset the effect of sodium (salt) in raising your blood pressure. This, along with a healthy diet and lifestyle, lowers your risk of heart attack and stroke.

Increased Energy -

Bananas make a great work snack to combat that mid-afternoon slump. They’re a good choice for weight loss too - a small banana contains about 100 calories and will satisfy your sweet cravings.

If you can replace candy bars and other junk foods with bananas, it’s a helpful step towards losing weight. Not only will your body thank you for the vitamin and mineral boost but the energy release will be much more consistent.

Vitamin B6

Bananas are particularly high in vitamin B6. This vitamin is important for creating hemoglobin for healthy blood.

B6 is also involved in maintaining proper blood sugar levels, synthesizing and breaking down amino acids and producing antibodies for a stronger immune response in your body.

My wife is thyroid patient. Her blood test result T3 - 1.41 T4- 8.81 T. S. H- 0.53 She is taking tyrox 100 mg We got married just four months before. Now we want a child. So is there any problem for her in getting pregnancy at this time. Is there any problem in 100 mg? Can it cause abortion? Medicine was prescribed by a doctor. She is losing her hair also. My wife is thyroid patient. Her blood test result
T3 - 1.41
T4- 8.81
T. S. H- 0.53
She is taking tyrox 100 mg
We got ...
Hello, her tsh level which is 0.53 milli units/l is with in the recommended level (by american thyroid assocn), for conception. Before conception it is better to have tsh between 0.1 to 2 milli units and even during first trimester. Later 2nd trimeste it should be 0.3 to 3 mill uits and 3rd trimester 0.3 to 3.5 milli units/l. So my suggestion is you can go ahead and try for pregnancy. Hair fall is usually the last thing to get corrected once hypothyroidism comes in control. There is no need to reduce the dose of thyroxine 100 mcg now. May be post delivery you can look at that. Thanks for the question.
