Impact of Stress on our health

Mera naam Dr. B S Arora hai. Mai peshe se ek manochikitsak hoon. Kya aap apni Zindagi Tanav Mukt Jeena Chahte Hain? Kya aap Chahte Hain ki aap ke Jeevan Mein Koi Tanav Na Ho? Agar aap ka Uttar haan me Hai To Mujhe Gaur Se suniye. Aaj Mai aap se Tanav aur Tanav se Mukti ke upaay ke baare mein sankshipt vartalap karunga. Pehle tanav Kya Hota Hai? Tanav ke kya Karan Hote Hain? Tanav Mujhe Kaise prabhavit karta hai aur Tanav ki avastha kya hoti hai? Aur fir mai aap ko bataunga Tanav Mukti ke upay. Pehla toh tanav Kahin Bhi, Kisi Ko Bhi, Kabhi Bhi Prabhavit kar sakta hai. Tanav Zindagi Ki Ek Sacchai hai. Tanav ka Sahi Prabhadhan hi ek upaay hai.

Pehla tanav Hota kya hai? Ek avastha Hai jis mein kisi kaaran se mera Shaareerik, Mera maansik Mera Bhavnatmak santolan Bigad jaata hai. Yeh Karan antrik bhi ho sakte hain aur Bahri bhi ho sakte hain. Ye vastavik bhi ho sakte hai ya Kalpanik bhi ho sakte hain. Tanav ko do bhago Me Baanta Gaya Hai 1 positive or negative. Jaise aap apni Pariksha ke liye taiyari karte hai, agar tanav na ho to aap apni Pariksha ki taiyari nahi kar Payenge. Isliye Hum usko kehte hain positive tanav, Ek positive tension. Ab humein dekhna chahiye ki tanav ki avastha kya kya hai. Tanav ki teen avastha hoti hai. Jaise ki hum Apne Jeevan Kaal Ke Andar 3 Kaal Se Guzarte Hain - balyavastha, Yuva avastha aur vridhavastha.

Tanav ki bhi theek 3 Avasthaayein hoti hai. Pehli stage Hoti Hai alarming stage, 2nd Stage hoti hai stage of resistance and Third stage hoti hai stage of exhaustion. Jab Ek vaigyanik addhyyan kia gaya Pata Laga ki Hamare Tanav Ke Karan alag alag ho sakte hain lekin Hum usko Jis Tarah se pratikriya karte hai uska 1 definite pattern hai Jisko Hum Log Kehte Hai generalized adaptation system. Ye ek jatil prakriya hai. Mainw uska Ek thoda sa sarili Karan aap logo ke liye Kiya Hai. Ab Hum Chalte Hain Tanav ke kya kya Karan ho sakte hain. Pehla Karan Ghar Mein Kisi ki mrityu ho jana. Kisika ghar mein janam lena. Kisi Ko Kisi ke ghar mein Achanak aapka financial status ya Naukri ka chhoot Jaana. Ya phir ek samay nirdharit k andar aapka Karya ko karna.

Tanav ke aur bhi Karan ho sakte hain jaise aapka traffic me fas Jana, Pariksha ka nazdeek Aa Jana aur ek pariwarik Kalah jisske anar Divorce Bhi Ek pramukh Tanav ka Karan Hota Hai. Ab Hum Chalte Hain Tanav ke baare mein Humne Charcha kar li. Tanav ke Karan, tanav ki avasthayein. Ab baat karenge tanav Hame Kaise prabhavit karta hai. Hum Shareerik taur pe baat kare to Tanav Hame Rakta Chap yani hypertension, BP Ka mareez Bana sakta hai. Humko Heart Attack De sakta hai. Agar ye tanav accumulated hokar daily Jo Hamare tanav hai Aage chal kar Hame hriday Rog se bhi Prabhavit kar sakta hain. Tanav Hume anxiety, depression, psychosis Ka mareez Bhi Bana sakta hai. Agar tanav bahut jyada ho To kitne log Tanav se prabhavit hokar aatmhatya Tak kar lete hai. Abhi jo vaigyanik addhyyan Huye hai usse ye Pata Chala Hai ki Bada Tanav ek ho toh itna prabhavit nahi karta Magar Chote Chote Kah tanav Hame Jyada prabhavit karte hai. Aur Ek Aur tathya nikla hai. Cancer of tanav. Jo log bahut sara tanav lete hain unke andar Yeh Pata Chala Hai cancer hone ke Pravarti bad rahi hai. Ab mai aap ko Tanav Nivaran or tanav ka prabhandhan Hum Kaise Kare.

Agar Aap iske baare mein mujhse koi sujhaav ya mujhse koi suggestion chahte ho toh aap lybrate ke through Mujhse Sampark kar sakte hain.

Here are Symptoms of Depression

Mera naam Dr. B. S Arora hai. Main ek monochikitsak hu. Aksar humare pass log aate hai aur kehte hai, “Dr. sahab, main depression mein hu aur depression ke kya lakshan hai?”

Mitron, main aaj aapko batane jaa raha hu ke depression ke lakshan kya hai. Pehla, agar aap note kare ke pichle do hafton mein ke aapka mann kaafi udaas raha ho ya kaafi bhaari raha ho ya aapko kisi ko dekh kar rone ki ichha ho rahi hai, baat baat pe aap ro rahe hai, ye ek depression ka prarambhik lakshan hai. Aur depression ke lakshan hai jaisi ki bhook ka kam lagna, bhook ka adhyatik lagna, ya neend bahut aana ya neend na aana alas ke roop mein hai, aur dekha gaya hai ki aap ka kaam karne ki prati jo aapki shamta hai ya concentration hai ya attention hai wo kam ho gaya hai aur ye bhi dekha gaya hai ki aap shaaririk roop se aap ki jo activity hai ya toh wo bahut kam ho gayi hai ya bechaini badh gayi hai ya aapke khayalaat mein ye bhi aa sakta hai ki meri jo zindagi hai uska koi mulya nahi hai koi worth nahi hai, meri zindagi ke andar koi ichha nahi hai isko hum kehte hai the idea of hopelessness, worthlessness aur kabhi kabhi patient ko aatmaglaani ke bhav kaafi bhar jaate hai.

Isi dauraan kitne mareezon ko aatmahatya karne ke vichaar, aatmahatya karne ke liye apne aap ko taiyaar rakhna, kitne log depression ke dauraan apne aap ko haani bhi pahucha sakte hai. Ye depression ke prarambhik lakshan kahe gaye hai. Aur aklsar log kehte hai, “doctor sahab, depression ka ilaaj kaise aur kab tak hoga?” depression ka ilaaj do method se kiya jaata hai. Hum agar patient ko evaluate kare aur uske baad hum dekhte hai kis mareezon ko dawai ki zarurat hai ya nahi hai. Jo depression ke andar medicines chalet hai unko hum anti-depressants kehte hai. Wo lag bhag 9-11 mahine tak chalate hai. Usme bhi teen awasthaye hoti hai. Pehle hum mareez ko advice karte hai ki pehle 7-10 din tak aur fir thode samay tak 2-3 hafte tak apne manochikitsak ke sampark mein rahe. Second method, jisse log kehte hai psychotherapy ya counseling. Isme hum mareez ko sikhate hai ke apne aap ko aaram kaise karna, relax kaise karna, aur nakaraatma bhav aur vichaar se kaise chutkara paana chahiye.

Isme hum pehle mareez ko kehte hai ke negative thoughts ko pehchaane yaani aware rahe, unko challenge kare, aur nakaraatma vichaar ko hata ke positive feelings, positive thoughts, positive emotions kaise generate karne hai. Ye sab hum aapko monochikitsa ke dauraan sikhaate hai. Jisme pehle kuch haft eek se do sitting ya kabhi kabhi teen sittinh bhi lete hai. Jaise jaise aap in cheezon ka abhyas karege aapki dawai ki maatra aur dawai ki doses ko kam karte jaate hai. Aur fir ek samay aisa bhi aa sakta hai ke jab aap in cheezon ka niyamit tarah se abhyas kiya toh aapki dawaiyaan bhi chut sakti hai.

Mitron, agar aapko depression ya depression ke upchaar ke hetu agar aapko kuch aur jaankari chahiye toh aap mujhe Lybrate ke zariye sampark kar sakte hai.

5 Common Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder!

DNB, DPM, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Delhi
5 Common Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder!

Bipolar disorder is a condition where the patient may go through certain periods of extreme happiness and joy which is known as mania. On the other hand, there may be other periods where the patient may be extremely sad and depressed and even suicidal.

In some individuals, these phases may last quite long whereas, in others, they may change very quickly. However, there are certain common symptoms displayed by patients with bipolar disorder. Let's look at a few of them.

  • Feeling extremely happy, to the point of being careless - Certain patients, at the onset of bipolar disorder, will feel extremely happy and have their sense of judgment hampered. When patients feel very elated without proper context, or for very small reasons, it could be an indication that the person is experiencing mania.
  • Feeling extremely depressed - Similarly, on the other end of the spectrum, if a person feels extremely depressed without an appropriate reason, it may be due to bipolar disorder. Also, the severity of depression and the length of time for which a person experiences it is also an indicator of the condition.
  • Lack of interest in activities which formerly interested you - You may suddenly lose interest in an activity that genuinely interested you earlier. This may include your profession or hobbies.
  • Loss of appetite during the depression phases - During the phases of depression or sadness, which may sometimes last for months, a person may rapidly lose weight due to lack of interest in food. Even for patients who have shorter cycles of changes lasting for only a few weeks, this will be noticeable.
  • Extreme restlessness and lack of sleep during the manic phases - When the person enters a manic or happy cycle, it may trigger over enthusiasm, restlessness and lack of sleep. This, like the depression phase, will also vary from patient to patient and may continue for the entire duration of the phase. A jump from a depression cycle into this phase will be definitely noticed by others.

If a few of these symptoms are detected, then the patient should be taken to a mental health professional for appropriate treatment as soon as possible. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Psychiatrist.

5 Symptoms Of Schizophrenia And Its Treatment!

Schizophrenia is a psychiatric disorder in which a person’s mood, knowledge, thought and several other characteristics gets disturbed. We can notice most of the adults and old people with few symptoms of schizophrenia, which are most commonly left unidentified. The exact cause of schizophrenia is not yet known. The person feels that they are being constantly watched, they feel the presence of someone or something, which is not actually there. They are always suspicious and think that other people are gossiping and thinking about them.

Possible causes of Schizophrenia
Though the exact cause of schizophrenia is not known there are few factors, which contribute to the cause of schizophrenia.

  1. Genetic factors: People with a family history of schizophrenia are at higher risk of getting schizophrenia.
  2. Environmental factors: Environmental factors include excessive stress during pregnancy or later stages of life. Several other factors during pregnancy and childhood are responsible for causing schizophrenia. These factors are:
    1. Decreased oxygen level during delivery due to premature birth or prolonged labour
    2. Parental loss or separation in early stages of life
    3. Parental exposure to virus or during infancy
    4. Childhood physical or sexual abuse
    5. Abnormal brain structures and brain chemistry

Sings and symptoms of schizophrenia

  1. Hallucination: To see, feel or hear anything that really does not exist is known as hallucination.
  2. Delusion: A thought or belief of a person, which is either false or impossible in reality is known as delusion.
  3. Thought and speech disturbances: The thought process and speech of a schizophrenic will be disorganized, due to which he or she  will fumble or is distracted as they are unable to align their thoughts.
  4. Difficulty in concentrating: It is difficult for people suffering from schizophrenia to concentrate on the task at hand.
  5. Erratic behaviour: People suffering from schizophrenia tend to behave erratically, either they will be too jumpy or will be perfectly still for hours at a stretch. Most people belief that those who are suffering from schizophrenia are often violent in nature, which actually is not the case.

Treatment for schizophrenia
Schizophrenia can be treated, if identified at an early stage. It is best advised to consult a psychiatrist the moment you spot the symptoms. Anti psychotic drugs, self help behaviour change, counselling and rehabilitation are few treatment modalities available for schizophrenia.

How To Manage Compulsive Sexual Behaviour?

DNB, DPM, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Delhi
How To Manage Compulsive Sexual Behaviour?

One of the emerging psychiatric disorder that has significant medical and psychiatric consequences is compulsive sexual behaviour or hypersexuality, is an obsession with sexual thoughts in which people cannot manage their sexual behaviour. It may involve a commonly enjoyable sexual experience as self-stimulation which becomes an obsession. The person suffering from the condition may also get involved in sexual behaviours that are outside the bounds of commonly accepted conduct like paying for sex or having extramarital affairs.

Untreated compulsive sexual behaviour damages one’s self-esteem, health, job, relationships and career. However, with treatment and self-help, one can manage compulsive sexual behaviour and learn to manage one’s urge. Males are more likely to be unfaithful than females because they have stronger sexual impulses and weaker self-control. Compulsive sexual behaviour symptoms vary in type and severity. During intense sexual impulses, one feels as if they're beyond control. This is the first and the most common symptom as the patient uses compulsive sexual behaviour as an escape route for problems like loneliness, depression, anxiety and stress. One has trouble establishing and maintaining emotional closeness, even if one is married or in a committed relationship.

The treatment for compulsive sexual behaviour involves psychotherapy and medications. A primary goal of treatment is to help one manage urges and reduce excessive behaviours while maintaining healthy sexual activities. If one has compulsive sexual behaviour, one may need treatment for mental health condition. People with compulsive sexual behaviour often have alcohol or drug abuse problems or a mood disorder such as depression.

Counselling sessions can help one learn how to manage one’s compulsive sexual behaviour. Intensive treatment programs for compulsive sexual behaviours focus on identification of core triggers and beliefs about sexual addiction. It assists in development of healthier choices and coping skills to minimize urges and deal with the preoccupation of sexual addiction. Psychodynamic psychotherapy can prove to be very useful as it focuses on increasing one’s awareness of unconscious thoughts and behaviours, and developing new insights into their motivations. Resolving conflicts using this therapy is also recommended. The other kind of treatment program is cognitive behavioural therapy. This therapy helps one to identify unhealthy, negative beliefs and behaviours and replace them with healthy, positive ones. Family therapy and couples therapy may restore trust, minimize shame and guilt thus establishing a healthy sexual relationship between partners.

Medications include anti-depressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, mood stabilizers and anti-androgens have also been used to treat compulsive sexual behaviour. Anti-androgens are prescribed as it reduces the biological effects of sex hormones in men thus reducing sexual urges. Luteinizing hormone is also prescribed as it reduces obsessive sexual thoughts by reducing the production of testosterone. Anti-seizure medications, naltrexone, and medications which decrease male hormones have been found to decrease the compulsive urges and impulses associated with sexual addictions for some sufferers. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a psychiatrist.

Depression - Know How It Is Killing You!

Depression - Know How It Is Killing You!

We are all emotional beings and often have our good and bad days. However, we are all wired differently, making our minds work in unique ways. Reasons that make a person feel low are different for different people; what may be depressing for one person may not be depressing for the other. The degree of sadness can also vary from person to person.

Depression, with a feeling of complete hopelessness and despair, is a mood disorder that is becoming increasingly common. Women are more likely to be diagnosed with depression than men. Depressed people describe life as impending doom (a feeling that something terrible is about to happen). They are often consumed with the feeling of living in a black hole not knowing what the future holds, and feelings of lifelessness, emptiness, anger, and restlessness.

Some of the telltale signs of depression are listed below:

  1. Feeling of hopelessness and helplessness
  2. Tiredness
  3. Lack of concentration
  4. Easily irritated, bothered, or angered
  5. Inability to control negative thoughts
  6. Losing interest in activities that you once enjoyed
  7. Reckless behaviour, which was not noticed earlier
  8. Change in sleeping and eating patterns
  9. Difficulty in performing tasks that you once accomplished easily
  10. Worsening alcohol and cigarette consumption

Here are some of the reasons why people feel depressed:

  1. Problems in marriage or relationships
  2. Financial issues
  3. Chronic health issues
  4. Alcohol or drug abuse
  5. Unemployment
  6. Recent life events that were stressful
  7. Lack of social support
  8. Loneliness and isolation
  9. Early childhood trauma or abuse
  10. Managing depression

Accepting that you are depressed is a big step, which helps in managing it better.

  1. Speak out: The most important thing is to find a person whom you can confide in. A trained person or a good confidante can help you by just listening to you.In most cases, depression can be managed by seeing a qualified counsellor. Medications may also be useful in some cases.
  2. Sweat it out: While it may sound very tiring, exercising for even 15 minutes can bring relief. The more you exercise, the better you are bound to feel. Exercise also releases mood-enhancing chemicals that beat depression.
  3. Eat right: Foods with omega-3 fatty acids can help improve one’s mood while foods with sugar and refined carbs can have a negative impact on one’s mood. Change your diet to include mood elevating foods. Binging on junk food is common among depressed people, leading to weight gain and other complications.

So, while you may feel like you are in a black hole, there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel.

Depression And it's 5 Types

Depression And it's 5 Types

Depression is a very common emotion you might have experienced at least once during your lifetime. Depression refers to a state of mind when you are feeling low due to persistent sadness and loss of interest. But if the depression is chronic and long lasting for you, then it indicates that you are suffering from clinical depression. Under clinical depression, it is preferable that you go through a proper treatment course by a certified therapist. The Most common types of depressions are:

  1. Major depression - Under this type of a depression you will be depressed for most days of the week and if this condition extends for a period greater than 2 weeks, then it is a case of major depression. The most common method to treat a major depression is to talk to a mental health specialist and take medications called antidepressants (only after a prescription by a certified doctor).
  2. Persistent depressive disorder - This is a more severe and long lasting type of depression which is identified if you are depressed over a period longer than 2 hours. The most common symptoms of this type of a disorder are - change in your appetite, too much or too little sleep, lack of energy or fatigue, low self-esteem, trouble concentrating or making decisions, feeling hopeless among others.
  3. Bipolar disorder - If you are experiencing extreme ups and downs of mood abruptly and without any apparent reason, then you might be suffering from this disorder. This disorder is commonly known as a maniac depression, because during an up phase you will be extremely happy, joyful outgoing and talkative but during the low phase you will be sad, tired and depressed.
  4. Seasonal affective disorder - This type of a depression might bother you only during the winter season. This happens whenever the days are shorter and your body is not able to get enough of sunlight. This mostly happens in the case of people who are very fond of sunlight, and they prefer the sunshine over dark periods of the night. This disorder is treated by SAD antidepressants and everyday light therapy of 15 to 20 minutes.
  5. Psychotic depression - Under this type of a depression, you will have a major depression along with some psychotic symptoms like - hallucinations, delusions, and paranoia. Hallucinations mean viewing things that are not there, in reality, delusions are false beliefs or misconceptions and paranoia is the constant fear that somebody is going to harm you.

Feeling Uncertain and Unsure! Boost Your Self-confidence With These Tips

Feeling Uncertain and Unsure! Boost Your Self-confidence With These Tips

“The most beautiful thing you can wear is your confidence” -Blake Lively

At a certain point in our lives, we are all swept off our feet by the storm of doubt, so much so that we refuse to rest our trust and faith in our very own selves. But that is where being silently confident comes in. Confident people are optimistic, even in the face of adversities and tend to confront their fears head-on, no matter what. Take a leaf out of their book; here are a few tips to lift your esteem to its pinnacle.

  1. You need to keep off all the negativity: In life, you would be surrounded by people who would want to pull you down, taint your morale by unconstructive and unnecessary criticism. Maintain your dignity and distance from them who do not give you good vibes.
  2. Enhance your Image: Remember. body language maketh a man. The things you do and the thoughts you think speak louder than words. So, never forget to carry that wry smile by the side of your lips, whenever you encounter something seemingly insurmountable. Your posture, your firm handshake, your way of looking straight into the eyes of a person while dealing with him/her, can all go a surprisingly long way in upping your confidence.Composure and calmness are the keys to greatness.
  3. Never give-up: Failures are life lessons in your path of success and the true spirit lies not in never falling, but dragging yourself up each time you fall. Hence never accept defeat. Remember, every champion was once a contender who refused to give up.
  4. Be prepared: Put your best foot forward every time you do something; be it that important office presentation of yours, or on the prom night of your university. This could take your confidence higher.
  5. Remind yourself of every single good thing you’ve done: Life is full of ups and downs and there may be days when you would feel unsure and weird about yourself. What you can do is make two lists and stick them on all spots easily visible to you, for instance, your wall, your refrigerator door or your bathroom mirror. On the first list, pen down all the amazing things life has blessed you with and of which you are truly grateful. On the second list, put forth all of your accomplishments that you are proud of; major or minor. Next time, whenever you find your self-esteem waning, these lists would remind you of what a worthy life you have had thus far, thus motivating you all over again.

Ye ek jatil prakriya hai. Mainw uska Ek thoda sa sarili Karan aap logo ke liye Kiya Hai. Ab Hum Chalte Hain Tanav ke kya kya Karan ho sakte hain. Pehla Karan Ghar Mein Kisi ki mrityu ho jana. Kisika ghar mein janam lena. Kisi Ko Kisi ke ghar mein Achanak aapka financial status ya Naukri ka chhoot Jaana. Ya phir ek samay nirdharit k andar aapka Karya ko karna.

Tanav ke aur bhi Karan ho sakte hain jaise aapka traffic me fas Jana, Pariksha ka nazdeek Aa Jana aur ek pariwarik Kalah jisske anar Divorce Bhi Ek pramukh Tanav ka Karan Hota Hai. Ab Hum Chalte Hain Tanav ke baare mein Humne Charcha kar li. Tanav ke Karan, tanav ki avasthayein. Ab baat karenge tanav Hame Kaise prabhavit karta hai. Hum Shareerik taur pe baat kare to Tanav Hame Rakta Chap yani hypertension, BP Ka mareez Bana sakta hai. Humko Heart Attack De sakta hai. Agar ye tanav accumulated hokar daily Jo Hamare tanav hai Aage chal kar Hame hriday Rog se bhi Prabhavit kar sakta hain. Tanav Hume anxiety, depression, psychosis Ka mareez Bhi Bana sakta hai. Agar tanav bahut jyada ho To kitne log Tanav se prabhavit hokar aatmhatya Tak kar lete hai. Abhi jo vaigyanik addhyyan Huye hai usse ye Pata Chala Hai ki Bada Tanav ek ho toh itna prabhavit nahi karta Magar Chote Chote Kah tanav Hame Jyada prabhavit karte hai. Aur Ek Aur tathya nikla hai. Cancer of tanav. Jo log bahut sara tanav lete hain unke andar Yeh Pata Chala Hai cancer hone ke Pravarti bad rahi hai. Ab mai aap ko Tanav Nivaran or tanav ka prabhandhan Hum Kaise Kare.

Agar Aap iske baare mein mujhse koi sujhaav ya mujhse koi suggestion chahte ho toh aap lybrate ke through Mujhse Sampark kar sakte hain.

Six Ways to Make Couples Therapy Work for You

Everyone desires to have a partner who can be their strength, a person who can help them sail through when the going gets tough. A perfect love filled, hassle free relationship tops the priority list of most people. Of late, the ideal 'made for each other' couples have become a thing of the past. Stress, work pressure, the mad rush to be at the pinnacle is taking a serious toll on a person's physical and mental health.

Many relationships have gone kaput due to irreconcilable differences. At times, the problem is not about infidelity, but compatibility. Love is there, but understanding is long gone. Under such circumstances, a therapist or a marriage counsellor comes as a ray of hope. Couples therapy has been instrumental in getting many relationships back on track.

Couples therapy cannot miraculously solve the complications and compatibility issues. For a relationship to work, both the partners need to make a conscious and sincere effort. The following tips, can go a long way to make the couples therapy work.

  1. No one is born perfect: To err is human. Imperfections will be there. The trick is to create and enjoy small perfect moments out of the imperfections. Do not fall for fairytale love stories. Believe it or not, even fairytale love stories come with their own set of imperfections. Couples therapy amalgamated with this fact can work wonders for your relationship.
  2. Choose the right therapist: An experienced therapist or counsellor will make the therapy much more effective. Thus choosing the right therapist becomes a determining factor in the overall success of the therapy.
  3. Discuss in detail: A wise man had once said; do not hide anything from your doctor and lawyer. If you want the therapy and your relationship to work, open up to the therapist. Be transparent and honest. To chalk out an effective therapy, the therapist needs to know every detail.
  4. Express your point of view: Couples therapy without the involvement of both the partners is meaningless and futile. The partners need to express their point of view. It helps a great deal to ease out the tension and awkwardness between the couple.
  5. Don't lose hope Couples therapy does not always guarantee 100% success. A lot of factors go into its success. A therapist is no magician. This should not demoralise you. Set realistic goals, be patient with the therapy. With time, things will change for the better.
  6. Be regular with the sessions: Work can wait, but a relationship, once lost, will be gone forever. Give your relationship the time and priority it deserves. A therapist knows what work for your relationship. Both the partners should participate in the activities assigned by the therapist.

The activities, if practiced diligently, will do your relationship, a world of good.  Every relationship goes through a lean phase. Consult a therapist before it spoils your relationship. Reach out at to know everything about couples therapy.

Here are Symptoms of Depression

Mera naam Dr. B. S Arora hai. Main ek monochikitsak hu. Aksar humare pass log aate hai aur kehte hai, “Dr. sahab, main depression mein hu aur depression ke kya lakshan hai?”

Mitron, main aaj aapko batane jaa raha hu ke depression ke lakshan kya hai. Pehla, agar aap note kare ke pichle do hafton mein ke aapka mann kaafi udaas raha ho ya kaafi bhaari raha ho ya aapko kisi ko dekh kar rone ki ichha ho rahi hai, baat baat pe aap ro rahe hai, ye ek depression ka prarambhik lakshan hai. Aur depression ke lakshan hai jaisi ki bhook ka kam lagna, bhook ka adhyatik lagna, ya neend bahut aana ya neend na aana alas ke roop mein hai, aur dekha gaya hai ki aap ka kaam karne ki prati jo aapki shamta hai ya concentration hai ya attention hai wo kam ho gaya hai aur ye bhi dekha gaya hai ki aap shaaririk roop se aap ki jo activity hai ya toh wo bahut kam ho gayi hai ya bechaini badh gayi hai ya aapke khayalaat mein ye bhi aa sakta hai ki meri jo zindagi hai uska koi mulya nahi hai koi worth nahi hai, meri zindagi ke andar koi ichha nahi hai isko hum kehte hai the idea of hopelessness, worthlessness aur kabhi kabhi patient ko aatmaglaani ke bhav kaafi bhar jaate hai.

Isi dauraan kitne mareezon ko aatmahatya karne ke vichaar, aatmahatya karne ke liye apne aap ko taiyaar rakhna, kitne log depression ke dauraan apne aap ko haani bhi pahucha sakte hai. Ye depression ke prarambhik lakshan kahe gaye hai. Aur aklsar log kehte hai, “doctor sahab, depression ka ilaaj kaise aur kab tak hoga?” depression ka ilaaj do method se kiya jaata hai. Hum agar patient ko evaluate kare aur uske baad hum dekhte hai kis mareezon ko dawai ki zarurat hai ya nahi hai. Jo depression ke andar medicines chalet hai unko hum anti-depressants kehte hai. Wo lag bhag 9-11 mahine tak chalate hai. Usme bhi teen awasthaye hoti hai. Pehle hum mareez ko advice karte hai ki pehle 7-10 din tak aur fir thode samay tak 2-3 hafte tak apne manochikitsak ke sampark mein rahe. Second method, jisse log kehte hai psychotherapy ya counseling. Isme hum mareez ko sikhate hai ke apne aap ko aaram kaise karna, relax kaise karna, aur nakaraatma bhav aur vichaar se kaise chutkara paana chahiye.

Isme hum pehle mareez ko kehte hai ke negative thoughts ko pehchaane yaani aware rahe, unko challenge kare, aur nakaraatma vichaar ko hata ke positive feelings, positive thoughts, positive emotions kaise generate karne hai. Ye sab hum aapko monochikitsa ke dauraan sikhaate hai. Jisme pehle kuch haft eek se do sitting ya kabhi kabhi teen sittinh bhi lete hai. Jaise jaise aap in cheezon ka abhyas karege aapki dawai ki maatra aur dawai ki doses ko kam karte jaate hai. Aur fir ek samay aisa bhi aa sakta hai ke jab aap in cheezon ka niyamit tarah se abhyas kiya toh aapki dawaiyaan bhi chut sakti hai.

Mitron, agar aapko depression ya depression ke upchaar ke hetu agar aapko kuch aur jaankari chahiye toh aap mujhe Lybrate ke zariye sampark kar sakte hai.

Overcoming Sexual Harassment: You Are Stronger Than You Think

In India, crimes against women have been on the rise; they might have always happened at the same rate but today's media have become more attentive towards these crimes by bringing them to the forefront. Recently, the devastating news of an Assamese higher secondary student being raped and killed has surfaced. Her floating decomposed body was not discovered until 4th of May when the incident itself occurred on 28th of April. If a rape victim dies, it is the most unfortunate consequence that the parents and the loved ones have to live with but there are numerous victims who survive and they can lead a normal life with guidance and care. Any occurrence of sexual assault not only leaves scars on the outside but also have deeper psychological and emotional effects. The emotional scars can manifest in the form of post-traumatic disorder, depression and suicidal tendencies. If you know anyone who has undergone such an experience, then read on to find out how you can help her get back to her life.

  • Medical Examination: Physical effects of rape can be adverse on the victim. Forced sexual assault causes bruising, wounds and vaginal bleeding and immediate medical attention is required to ensure safety. Subsequent medical tests should also be carried out to check for Urinary Tract infection, Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and uterine fibroids.
  • Therapy: Wounds of the flesh heal, but it takes a lot of time to recover from emotional damage and in some cases the survivors bear the burden of psychological scars all through their lives. They may see the incident as an assault to their souls and develop depression, post-traumatic disorder, borderline personality disorder, sleeping and eating disorder. The loved ones have to be understanding and be patient with them. One-on-one therapy or group therapy sessions can be very helpful. Talking about their emotions and resolving issues of anger, regret, pain, fear, guilt in a friendly, supported and understanding environment can help them reconstruct their self-image.
  • Counseling: Guilt and shame are two most common stigmas that most survivors have to deal with. They somehow blame themselves for the incident and regret any step they think that might have led to the incident. They become so consumed by the incident that they think the experience defines them, instead of their persona which is called dissociative identity disorder. In such cases counseling sessions can prove to be very beneficial. They need guidance to understand the situation and separate themselves from the incident. The survivors may feel weak and victimized, overpowered and violated; they may also think that they have lost control of their bodies. Counseling can assist to resolve such issues and help them empower themselves with time.

It is important to make the survivors realize that it is not the end of their lives. With a positive attitude, proper rehabilitation and counseling rape survivors can lead a normal, happy life.

Coping with the Loss of Loved One

Coping with the Loss of Loved One

Each and every person on this planet has to deal with the loss of a loved one at some point of their life or the other. It is an undeniable and unavoidable part of the human existence. However, at times, the grief can affect the person so much that their psychological, emotional and physical health may be affected. Their normal day- to-day functioning may be affected as a result of their extreme reaction to the loss of their loved one. In such a case it is ideal to seek treatment from a certified medical professional such as a counselor or psychologist. If the condition is even more serious and the patient requires help to treat him or her, then it is advisable to go to a psychiatrist.

However, the following tips commonly given by mental health professionals may help to deal with such a loss:

  • Accepting one's emotion: Sometimes an individual may remain in denial about the loss of the loved one or about his or her own reaction to it. This increases the negative emotion as it does not find a medium of expression. The person withdraws into himself or herself, and is slowly unable to conduct the usual daily activities. The first step therefore is to fully accept the reality of the event and one's own response to it. It can help to speak to a friend or family member about one's own response, or even release the grief by crying. Such cathartic avidities are the first step.
  • Taking care of oneself: Often after the death of a loved one, an individual may become wary of his or her own condition and fail to look after himself or herself. This should be avoided. Normal diet, exercise and activities are required.
  • Channeling grief into productive activity: Constantly focusing on the loss of the loved one can increase the trauma and stress. Sometimes it helps to focus on helping others, e.g. Volunteering at a charity or assisting others in some way. Even taking up artistic pursuits or any productive hobby proves to be beneficial.

I am 29 years old, I am smoking from last 12 yrs, so please suggest how to quit and overcome its side effect. As of now having high BP problem.

DNB, DPM, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Delhi
Smoking is a huge risk for lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, accounting for more than 75 percent of all deaths from these disorders. Smoking doubles the risk for cardiovascular disease deaths, but, because this disease is more prevalent, it accounts for as many smoking deaths as cancer and lung disease. The third major cause of tobacco-related mortality is chronic obstructive lung disease. Other common smoking-related diseases include low-birth-weight offspring, perinatal complications, other cancers (e. G. Throat, bladder, and pancreas), and ulcers. Second-hand smoke increases the risk of cancer and heart disease in spouses and the incidence of respiratory and ear problems in children. The tar in cigarette smoke is responsible for the cancers. Irritants and ciliotoxins appear to be responsible for lung diseases. Carbon monoxide and clotting factors appear to be the most likely causes of cardiovascular disease. The role of nicotine in cardiovascular disease appears to be much smaller than previously thought, and how many perinatal problems (including sudden infant death syndrome) are caused by carbon monoxide or by nicotine is debatable. Smokeless tobacco, pipes, and cigars cause oral cancers, especially when accompanied by heavy alcohol use. Cessation of smoking almost eliminates the risk of heart disease in 5 years and of lung cancer in 20 years; however, the benefits of cessation are highly dependent on duration of smoking. Measure the magnitude--Taking 10 puffs per cigarette × 20 cigarettes per day × 365 days per year × 20 years results in millions of drug self-administrations. Cessation of smoking almost eliminates the risk of heart disease in 5 years and of lung cancer in 20 years; however, the benefits of cessation are highly dependent on duration of smoking. If you wants to know more details on how to quit smoking. Let me know.

Do People Really Suffer from Mood Disorders?

Do people really suffer from mood disorders?

Mood disorders are common psychological problems that affect a vast portion of the human populace all over the world every year. These occur when there is a shift or imbalance in a person's psyche which affects his or her daily function and interpersonal relations in varying degrees. Each individual is affected by these conditions in a different capacity and responds to them in a distinct manner.

Mood disorders generally manifest themselves as fluctuations in a person's temperament. It is triggered by various factors. These mental illnesses range from mild to severe, the latter requiring urgent psychological counseling and treatment. A mild condition may even develop into a painful and chronic one without any form of remedial intervention.

What are the most common types of mood disorders?

There are many distinctive categories of mood disorders that can affect a person. The most commonly occurring ones are as follows:

- major depressive disorder

- bipolar disorder

- dysthymia

- cyclothymia

- seasonal affective disorder (sad)

Major depression is the most frequently occurring type of mood disorder. It causes mental and emotional turmoil, as well as physical anguish. Those affected by it may experience a single episode in isolation or multiple episodes over a period of time. The milder version of this condition is known as dysthymia.

Bipolar disorder is a comparatively rare condition that causes alternating states of extreme mania and depression. It is also known as manic-depressive illness. The mild version of this is called cyclothymia.

Seasonal affective disorder or sad is a depressive disorder that is known to affect those living in colder climes. It is caused generally by the lack of warmth and light, the onset of which begins in late autumn and lasts till the end of winter.

What causes a mood disorder?

Mood disorders are very difficult to diagnose as they can be caused by an assortment of triggers and the symptoms are not always apparent. This is particularly true in the case of dysthymia and cyclothymia.

Some of the usual factors that lead to mood disorders are:

- chronic stress and anxiety

- anomalies in the functioning of the nervous system

- prolonged periods of isolation

- genetics

- childhood abuse and trauma

- ineffectual coping mechanisms

- insufficient nourishment/malnutrition

In most cases, a combination of multiple factors usually leads to the development of mood disorders and other mental illnesses.
