Over thinking is linked to gastric troubles. Thus you need to manage your thoughts and stop over thinking and analysing situations endlessly. Knowing what is within your control and what is outside your control can help you to reduce this. Acting on your thoughts rather than remaining at thinking level will help contain anxiety and get you some results. Know your swot (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) will help you to be more action oriented and getting results rather than sit and worry. This will help you to gain confidence and improve your self esteem. 3. Eat smaller and lighter meals. Don't sleep after meals. Exercise everyday to improve your digestion and your confidence. 4. Make friends and be a social person. Laughing and humour help to see life in a lighter vain. Emotional support of friends, relatives and colleges can help you pull through tough life situations. If these tips are not enough to make a change then you can see a counsellor for a personalised session.

What are precaution taken after removal of gallbladder along with the foods that to be consumed.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Gall Bladder removal or CHOLECYSTECTOMY is one of the most common surgical procedures for women. After the removal of the gallbladder, you may experience diarrhea, which can improve over time or last for years, Certain foods may worsen your condition so you need to be aware of what foods are less likely to aggravate your system. Low Fat Foods Limit unhealthy food .Although the gallbladder may not be essential, it does play an important role in the digestion process, especially the digestion of fat. The gallbladder stores and release bile, which is a substance the body uses to process fat. After gallbladder removal, bile still flows from the liver into the intestines but in a more sporadic way, which can also causes discomfort after eating a particularly fatty meal. Avoid fatty foods, including dairy products because they can worsen diarrhea. Avoid fatty foods for a while after surgery and reintroduce them to the diet slowly over time. High Fiber Foods Fresh fruits and vegetables Eating more foods that are high in fiber, like brown rice and wholemeal bread, can help to make stools more firm,. Increasing your daily fiber intake gradually and include foods like fruits, vegetables, lentils and beans, in addition to whole grains. Eating smaller meals, more frequently, and evenly spaced throughout the day can also improve your digestion process. Furthermore, ensuring that you consume at least four servings of fruits and vegetables and four servings of breads and cereals daily is highly recommended especially after surgery. Another benefit of including foods that are high in fiber is that it can improve the movement of food through your digestive system and help to reduce bloating. Caffeine Free, Low Sugar Foods and Probiotics Limit caffeine. It is important to limit foods that can make diarrhea worse, like caffeine containing drinks and very sweet foods or drinks. Caffeine has a stimulating effect on your body. It kicks all your body systems into high gear, including digestion and these effects can exacerbate diarrhea. Abstain from coffee and tea altogether. Caffeine is also commonly found in sodas and chocolates and these foods should also be avoided.

Ten Ayurvedic Ways To Improve Digestion

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
As per Ayurveda, good digestion is the chief indicator of salubrious health. A proper digestion leads to enhanced ojas. Ojas is the end biochemical outcome that results in improved quality of life. On the other hand, improper digestion leads to creation of ama or toxins in the body. If ama accumulates in the body for long time it is difficult to flush them out. If you want to follow the ayurvedic way of life then you really have to stress upon improving your digestion. Here are some tips to do the same:
1. Start your day with a glassful of warm water mixed with one tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice. You can also add half a tablespoon of honey to it. Lemon juice acts as a purifier and reduces ama in the alimentary tract.
2. Lassi or buttermilk is excellent for digestion. It improves the digestive flora without hindering the microcirculatory channels of the human body. Buttermilk is best taken during lunch, it should not be consumed after sunset.
3. Have a small slice of fresh ginger with very little freshly squeezed lemon juice. It helps in stirring up the digestive fires and enhances appetite before meal time. If you find it difficult to eat ginger directly, then squeeze out ¼ teaspoon of ginger juice and mix it with ½ teaspoon of lemon juice and have this mixture about half an hour before meal time.
4. Never skip breakfast. Have fresh fruits, boiled vegetables and cooked cereal in breakfast. This is light for the stomach and helps in keeping the digestion fires alive and active all through the day.
5. There are some spices with aids digestion, try to include them as ingredients while cooking your meal. Spices such as turmeric, coriander powder, dried ginger, cumin and ajwain aids digestion as well as helps in flushing out toxins from the body. They also help in better absorption and of nutrients. There are some foods that are difficult to digest, like lentils, they must always be cooked along with above mentioned spices to prevent flatulence.
6. Most people are addicted to caffeinated drinks such as tea and coffee. Try to replace them with herbal teas. Start having a fragrant fennel tea after you have you lunch to improve digestion. If you find fennel good to taste, then chew some seeds after you have your meal.
7. Avoid having snacks between two meals. Your gastrointestinal system needs time to rest as well as recharge in between meals as well as after a meal. If you really feel the need to snack in between then have only fresh fruits as they are easy to digest. In Ayurveda fruits are not recommended after sunset.
8. Have soaked grains, seeds, nuts as well as lentils in warm water for about half an hour to an hour. This makes them simpler to digest.
9. You must eat heavy food items such as cheese etc during lunch meal. The digestive fires are most active during the daytime, they start going into slumber by nightfall.
10. Ice or cold drinks douse the digestive fires, must avoid them at all times. You can sip warm water or water at room temperature throughout the day. It is believed that warm water is exceptionally good for the stomach, it aids digestion and purification.

Even Children Can Have Acidity

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Children who have continuing recurrence of cough and croup could be suffering from stomach acid reflux problems.

Croup or ‘Kali Khansi’, as it is called in local parlance, is recognized by a loud cough that often sounds like the barking of a seal. It can cause rapid or difficult breathing, and sometimes wheezing. Croup is thought to be caused by a virus, but reflux acidity has been suggested as a possible trigger.

In gastroesophageal reflux disease, stomach acid causes swelling and inflammation of the larynx, which narrows the airway. It can trigger more swelling with any kind of viral or respiratory infection.

Identifying children with gastroesophageal reflux disease could help treat and improve recurring croup. It is unusual for a child to have three or more bouts of croup over a short period of time. These children need to be evaluated.

The same is true for adults also. Patients with non responding asthma should be investigated for underlying acidity as the cause of acute asthma.

Dear sir, I reside in electronic city, bangalore. My mother is 69 years old and has complains of acidity. She also complains thrubbing pain in her knees in the night. I would request a guidance for her treatment.

DNB, MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
She would probably have osteoarthritis of knees at her age, the question is how severe. We need x rays of both knees ap and lateral views for the same. Also get vitamin d levels and uric acid levels. Painkiller wise we can' t give her anything strong because of her acidity, we can however give her some medications to improve the lubrication of the joint or some injections into the joint for the same. The above however are only effective if her arthritis is mild to moderate, if it is severe she will need a knee replacement.
