Dear lybrate user, red eyes could be because of many reasons but commonly it is due to allergy or infection. You need to visit eye specialist to differentiate between the two as the treatment is different. Also get your eyes checked for any glass power.

I have an eye site of 1.75 can I correct my site by medicine or should I go for laser treatment? Which one will be good for me.

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
Hello. There is no medication or food for improving eye sight or to get rid of glasses. Get your vision tested and wear glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik as your age is now 24 years so your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

I have spectacles when I was in class 4. Now I'm in final year engineering and my eye sights are near sightedness -3 and -3.25 in both eyes. And I have cylindrical number too. What should I do? And laser operation is possible if I have cylindrical number?

FPRS, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Pune
Yes you can undergo lasik surgery after a proper prelasik checkup. Cylinderical number can be easily corrected lasik is a simple laser procedure which changes the shape of the cornea so that the light rays fall on the retina properly. It is a day care procedure does not require any injections, does not require admission, you can simply resume your duties in 2 days. We can do lasik anytime after age of 18 years. You need to undergo proper prelasik checkup to decide whether lasik is safe for you or not.

Namaste dear doc, I need some advice about the recent ailment attacked to my mamma i.e. Glaucoma to the right eye. Doc has prescribed eye drops for the same, saying the eye pressure is high. I would like to know how to cure this ailment besides drops. Kindly suggest the best cure and tips to overcome. Am very much distressed since I have heard about it. Thank you.

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
Hello Glaucoma is a chronic progressive disease. There is no cure but yes, treatment is available first line of treatment is eyedrops. surgery is last resort...surgery will not cure glaucoma but it only decreases dependency on eyedrops. Please fell free to ask more queries and more clarification

FPRS, DNB Ophtalmology

allergy can be controlled easily using eye drops. But there are many eye drops and specific eye drops can only be prescribed after seeing the eye clinically as treatment depends on severity. also dip a handkerchief in little cold water and keep over closed eyes.. you will feel better

How to take care of our eyes, even if we have perfect eyes at the moment? Should we wash our eyes daily after taking bath?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
No, Good eye health starts with the food on your plate. Nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and vitamins C and E might help ward off age-related vision problems like macular degeneration and cataracts. To get them, fill your plate with: Green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, and collards Salmon, tuna, and other oily fish Eggs, nuts, beans, and other nonmeat protein sources Oranges and other citrus fruits or juices Oysters and pork A well-balanced diet also helps you stay at a healthy weight. That lowers your odds of obesity and related diseases like type 2 diabetes, which is the leading cause of blindness in adults.
