Dear lybrate user, one of the major nutritional substance required for human body is carbohydrate. We take carbohydrate in the form of rice, wheat, sugar etc. The complex molecules of carbohydrate are broken down into simple glucose molecules during digestion & released in the blood stream to be absorbed by the muscle cells. Muscle cells utilise the glucose molecules to release energy by breaking down those glucose molecules. Insulin hormone plays a vital role in the absorption of the glucose molecules by the muscle cells. In abnormal conditions, either due to less production of insulin or due to resistance to insulin, the process of absorption of glucose by the muscles comes to a stand still. The glucose molecules remains in the bloodstream which results in the increase in the blood sugar level. The failure of utilisation of the glucose molecules by the muscle cells results in production of less energy than normal condition. This is externally manifested as the fatigue & tiredness of the patient. This excess amount of blood sugar compels the kidney to function more than normal level in order to excrete the blood sugar molecules through urine. As a result the patient suffers from frequent urination. This abnormal condition is clinically known as diabetes mellitus. Once a patient is diagnosed with diabetes he has to take regular medicine to keep his blood sugar level within normal limits. However, the patient does not need to take medicine unless his/her post. Prandial blood sugar level reaches 200. If post. Prandial blood sugar level reaches 200 then patient can take homoeopathic mother tincture gymnema sylvestra q, 30 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water. Along with intake of medicines the patient need to walk at least 1 hour daily without any interval. In order to decrease the intake of carbohydrate in diet the patient should avoid rice, sweet dishes, fruits, cold drinks, fast foods, alcoholic beverages, potato etc.

What should I do I have fever? Please advise.

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician,
What should I do I have fever? Please advise.
Fever is not considered medically significant until body temperature is above 100.4 F (38 C). Fever serves as one of the body's natural defenses against bacteria and viruses which cannot live at a higher temperatures..Also, the body's defense mechanisms seem to work more efficiently at a higher temperature -Fevers of 104 F (40 C) or more may be dangerous and demand immediate treatment The following medications may be used at home for mild fever : -Acetaminophen (dolo-650 mg) twice or thrice can be used to lower a fever . Aspirin should not be used in children during a viral illness. -Wear comfortable loose fitting clothes and donot overdress. Overdressing can cause the temperature to rise further. -Tepid water (85 F [30 C]) baths may help bring down a fever -The body should be cooled with a wet sponge. -Fever can cause dehydration.Drink plenty of fluids.Have citrus fruits, particularly Vitamin C rich ones like mausami,Amla juice etc. -Take light and easily digestible home cooked meals .avoid outside food -Wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water especially before meals, or after returning from a public places or using public transport. -Further therapy depends on the cause of fever like urinary infection/typhoid or malaria/dengue infection and the accompanying symptoms that need to be investigated and treated accordingly

But after medication and complication of her period, she had a test and found that No cyst is no more and test report is ok. Doctor prescribed me DRONIS-31 for 3 months. Is this medicine related with Cyst? What actually DRONIS-30 is for? Please answer.

Actually dronis 30 is meant for contraception (avoidance of pregnancy). But it is also prescribed in ovarian cysts and irregular menstruation. And yes, often some cysts appear and disappear, we don't give much importance to these cysts.

Adequate sleep is necessary for growth of body and health. If you do not sleep for adequate time daily, it will hurt you big time. You can't recover by over sleeping on some other day.

Dear dr, I am a 44 years old circumcised male, 4 days ago I had sex with a csw in abu dhabi, uae. While having sex with the condom broke, it was not more than 10 seconds before I found out, no ejaculation happened and I had no open sores on my penis or any other cuts, yet still I found a tiny amount of blood on the condom, I can't think of any reason for the blood except that she it was menstruation blood? just the beginning of it- I am of a good general health, smoker and have never been diagnosed with any std or any serious disease, right now I am freaking out because of the hazardous of hiv that I have put myself in. I have asked her if this was the first time for her to have a condom failure indecent and she answered yes, she even had a general blood test for a full checkup and she was in good health as well as the hiv blood test 2 years ago for residency visa and she already has her uae visa stamped (which means she was a negative at the time), my questions are as follows. 1- I have read somewhere on the internet that the risk of transmission from a single encounter of unprotected vaginal sex is 0.065%, meaning that 99.935% do not get hiv, is that true? 2-do you recommend I get tested for hiv? I am thinking of getting a pcr test to check myself, how long should I wait before getting tested (pcr) and how accurate and reliable is that test? 3- do you recommend that I go for the pcr test or should I go for the 4th generation test and how long should I wait as well before the result is conclusive? 4- dose being circumcised have anything to do with minimizing the risk of hiv infection? 5- dose the presence of menstruation blood increase the risk of hiv infection? thank you in advance for helping me on this, I would really appreciate to hear from you as soon as possible as I am really freaking out.

MBBS
Sexologist, Panchkula
1. Yes, it is true. 2. You should wait for four months to get hiv test done as antibodies take 3 to 6 months to appear in blood. Go for elisa test and western blot test. 3. Chances increase if there is blood to blood contact but if you don't have any cuts or bleeding on your penis then there are no chances of infection. So need not worry.
