Hello doctor.

Kissing in the cheek once is unlikely to infect your baby with the germ. Sneezing. Cough and prolonged contact usually transmit the organism. But still there is a remote possibility of transmission of the infection. So you monitor the baby any sign of infection. The same organism may cause other disease also.

Hi lybrate-user Some children have delayed speech. If the child understands you and expresses herself using some words and expressions, I think there is nothing to worry as yet. Spend more personal time with the child. Enrol her in playschool or take her to park where she can meet and spend time with children of her age. Instead of letting her watch videos on YouTube, you should speak and sing a lot to your child. Encourage the child to repeat rhymes after you. Read out story books to the child. Spending too much time in front of screens is definitely a big No. You can contact me personally for further advice. Take care.

Hello My son is having diarrhea from past 3 days. He is passing more than 20 stools in a day. Earlier the color was black now it is greenish with mucous. We have consulted a homeopathy doctor and she has prescribed aloes200. Podo 200 and merc cor. For dysentery. Is it the correct medication since we are taking this from 3 days. He had fever also of 103 degree which has now reduced to 98.6. Only the frequency of stools has not reduced. We are confused if we should take him to allopathy for immediate relief or will it heal through homeopathic treatment.

What Causes Early Childhood Trauma? + How to Identify this Condition?

Phd, Mphil, MSc, Bed, BA (Clinical Psychologist and Parent Child Relationship Expert)
Psychologist, Noida
What Causes Early Childhood Trauma? + How to Identify this Condition?

The problem of early childhood trauma refers to disturbing experiences that take place in children during 0-6 years of age. The traumas that young children experience can be the effects of natural disaster, war or accidents or that of intentional violence like sexual abuse, domestic violence or physical abuse.

What Does this Condition Impact Childhood?

Traumatic events have a significant impact on your child's life and can break his sense of safety. The problem has been linked with a decrease in the size of the brain cortex. This is the part of the brain that controls several complex functions like thinking, consciousness, memory, attention, awareness, and language. The changes that occur as a result can affect your child's IQ as well as his or her ability to control emotions. As a consequence, he or she may harbor feelings of danger and become more afraid or it may manifest in other personality issues which are not very obvious.

How do you identify this condition?

Generally, children who suffer from traumas face problems in regulating their emotions and behaviors.

They may display signs like:

- Fear of new situations
- Being clingy to their parent(s) or somebody close
- Become easily frightened
- Display aggressive and/or impulsive behavior
- Are difficult to comfort
- Display deterioration in behavior and functioning
- Easily forget newly attained developmental skills
- Difficulty in sleeping

Depending on the age during which your child may go through a traumatic event, he or she can exhibit signs relevant to his or her age.

For instance:

Children aged 0-2 years may also display reactions like poor verbal skills, memory problems, excessive temper, experience nightmares, etc.

On the other hand, children aged 3-6 years can face difficulties in learning as well as develop poor skill and learning disabilities, face problems in social interaction, may be unable to trust people and so on.

If this condition remains unattended or unresolved for longer, it may create personality issues and can deeply impact the individual's relationships, or equations in the society, as they grow up and even after they become adults. In fact, many behavioral problems can be traced back to childhood trauma.

You can give home made semi solids like khichri, dal mashed and banana mashed and egg yolk changing each every item so that child is not bored with only one food. You can remain in touch with me as personal doctor for regular advice. Ask me privately.

My baby is suffering from Fever, loose motions and vomiting since Friday. I consulted a doctor in Cloudnine but I do not see any improvement in my baby's health. I am giving him crocin DS 240 mg every 6 hrs, but temp remains 100. For loose motions, I gave him Enterogermina and Oflox. Since the effect is not much, doctor advised to stop oflox and start Taxim-O and Zedot 10 mg. For vomiting, Emeset and Lanzol. There is little improvement in vomiting though but not loose motions. Since his temperature is not coming down, he is not even taking in any food. I am trying to give ORS, coconut water and rice Ganji. Its been 3 days and he is still sick like day 1. Please advise.

Medicines take some time to act. Frequent change of medicine may not be useful rather it may be harmful. You have not mentioned nature and number of loose motion. If it is watery without blood and/ or mucous, it is most likrly due to viral infection in which there is no role of Antibiotics. Maintain hydration, give ORS (if not liking ors and prefer water, give him water or liquid of his choice- not sugar rich driks). Continue feeding and follow instruction of pediatrician. More than this advice is beyond the scope due to incmplete information. But i am hopeful that baby will recover.

Breastfeeding of Infants Born to Hepatitis B Mother

Breastfeeding of Infants Born to Hepatitis B Mother

What is Hepatitis B?
Hepatitis B can be defined as the viral infection of the liver. It is caused by Hepatitis B virus (HBV). It is the most common type of virus and can affect a person adversely if left undetected and untreated.

What are the risks to the baby born to Hepatitis B mother?
If the mother has Hepatitis B, there are chances of transfer of virus to the baby. Transmission can occur while the baby is in utero, during delivery and in postpartum period. Most of the cases are due to transmission of virus at the time of delivery due to exposure to blood. That virus can infect the baby and can cause hepatitis in the baby. Baby can become a chronic carrier and can develop liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma in later life.

Does breast milk contain Hepatitis B Virus?

Yes, HBV can be found in the breast milk of 70% of carrier mothers, but there is no evidence of transmission of Hepatitis B through mother's milk.

Can Hepatitis B Positive mother give breastfeed to her baby?

Yes, according to WHO and UNICEF guidelines breastfeeding can be given, as breast milk is the natural and optimal feed to the baby. Mother feeding in hepatitis B positive mother infant can be made more safe by immunisation of the baby with Hepatitis B Vaccine and Hepatitis B immunoglobulin . Hepatitis B vaccine and immunoglobulins are to be given within 12hrs of delivery and the vaccine should be repeated after 1 month and 6 months. This will substantially reduce perinatal transmission and virtually eliminate any risk of transmission through breastfeeding or breast milk feeding. Immunization of infants will also prevent infection from all other modes of HBV transmission. Exclusive breast feeding is to be continued till 6 months of age .Start complementary feeds at 6 months of age and along with that continue breast feeding for two years.

What to do if Hepatitis B positive mother has sore or cracked or bleeding nipples?

Mothers should breastfeed the baby carefully so that she would not get cracked or sore nipple. In case she gets sore or cracked or bleeding for nipple ,stop breast feeding and take treatment for sore nipples. Because sore nipples or cracked nipples can transmit the virus through exposure to blood . During that period she should express the milk and discard it. She should resume the feeding after the nipples are healed.

Milk production increases on it own eventually. As you start feeding her and as her demands will increase, the body will start producing more milk on its own to fulfill your child's need.

You need to worry and et the child evaluated if the child has persistant vomiting after falling from bed. If it was a single episode and if child is active, need not worry. It might be just a coincidence.

Why You Should Talk To Your Little One Earnestly

If your toddler talks to you in gibberish what do you do? Experts tell us that you should act as if you understand what your child is speaking. It will encourage him to speak and he will pick up the mother?s tongue faster.
Parents? response to children?s activities makes a world of difference to their growth. If you indulge in a conversation with your toddler, he will feel encouraged to talk. Never mind if you can?t make out his blabbering. Words don?t matter, your attention does! Show interest and talk to your kid. Just wait and watch how quickly your baby picks up language skills!

Gas forms in every individual so in kids too. Don't give any medicine for normal happenings in life. Since gas formation is no disease so no medicine and its dose.

Your baby is under nourished. Give him home made fresh cooked food at frequent intervals. Teach him importance & need of food in growth and development. Avoid fast food rich in too much of fats. Leaving him amongst children dining together will help.

Please use home cooked semi solids like sooji, daliya, khichdi, daal chhaval, etc. Daal pani has no nutritional value so don't use it similarly fruit juices are not recommended, use mashed fruits. Add oil or ghee in diet to increase taste and caloric value, curd you can use it. Is very good for everyone.
