after the menopause. Many people with arthritis also have a risk of developing osteoporosis. The best sources of calcium are: Dairy products such as milk, cheese, yogurt (low-fat ones are best – skimmed and semi-skimmed milk contains more calcium than full-fat milk). Calcium-enriched varieties of milks made from soya, rice or oats. Fish that are eaten with the bones (such as sardines). Arthritis Research UK recommends a daily intake of calcium of 1,000 milligrams (mg), with added vitamin D if you’re over 60. Iron Iron Iron is important in preventing anaemia and many people with arthritis are anaemic. Anti-inflammatory drugs to help treat arthritis help the pain and stiffness of arthritis but may cause bleeding and stomach ulcers in some people, leading to anaemia. The other main cause of anaemia in arthritis is anaemia of chronic disease, which often occurs with rheumatoid arthritis and similar conditions and doesn’t improve with iron supplements. Good sources of iron are: Red meat Oily fish e.g. sardines, salmon, mackerel etc Pulses e.g. lentils and haricot beans Dark green vegetables e.g. spinach, kale and watercress. Your body absorbs iron better if you take it with vitamin C, so have fruit juice or a good portion of fruit or vegetables with your meal. It’s best not to drink tea with your meal as this reduces the amount of iron that your body can absorb.

Hi, please, tk, d help of physiotherapy to get relief quickly. Tk, homoeo medicine, @ rhus tox 200-6 pills, thrice a day. @ colocynth 200-6 pills, thrice a day. @ five phos6x-4 tbs, thrice a day. Go for meditation to reduce your stress, & to nourish your whole body to ease your problem. Rotat your lumber rejion clockwise & anticlockwise. Avoid, bending down to lift heavy weight, cold intake, nicotine, caffiene, alcohol, junk food. Tk, care.

Ayurvedic treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis starts with pacification of Vata and elimination of toxins from the body. Herbal medicines are administered to improve the digestive fire and prevent further formation of ama. Panchakarma massage therapies are quite useful in subsiding pain in Arthritic patients. Go for absolute fasting or rely on a liquid or semi-solid diet for an entire day, depending on your strength. You can follow this with hot fomentation (application of moist heat). This can be done by soaking cloth in warm water and giving a compress over the affected parts or steam bath or taking a bath with lukewarm water. These are the best methods of digesting ama. follow up after 2 days.

Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back Stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both knees towards the chest and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times each exercise twice a day. Do the cat/cow stretch. Get on all fours, with your arms straight and your hands directly under your shoulders; your knees hip-width apart.

Hi there are multiple causes for shoulder pain like. Muscular, tendonitis, ligament tear etc. It will be good if you visit physiotherapist or orthopaedic doctor for diagnosis. 1. Take one tablet of crocin pain relief sos after food upto a maximum of 3 tablets daily 2. Apply volini gel twice daily 3. Give warm compress locally 4. Take rest if you have recurrent attack of neck pain a) take x ray/mri cervical spine to exclude spondylitis and consult orthopedic specialist b) sometimes it could be due to bad sitting posture while reading or working on computer. Adopt proper sitting posture, put neck rest, use soft pillow while sleeping c) do physio therapy and neck exercise after consulting physiotherapist.

Madam, you have not mentioned the duration, which part of the leg, generally your age, if of short duration, you need to take analgesics, tab dolo 650 mg twice daily for 5 days, if persistent consult doctor.

Hi Drs, I have bad posture problem due to which I am facing lot of problem in my day to day life. I tried ayurvedic massage, physiotherapy but nothing works. Whenever I sit or stand with someone they do exercises just like teasing me, lowering my confidence. Its hectic now for me to live, creating metal stress. Now I heard some foam roller are used to reduce stress in muscles. When I visited physiotherapists they told me its due to weak muscles but why those weak muscles to me only there are too many people in world which don't have such problem. Please help m on this.

Ok don't worry tk mirror help and see your posture and do correct. Keep spine straight and equal balance on both limbs. Do stretching exercise in daily routine and tk a spine x-ray to see spine. Avoid toward bending. Few minutes daily stand and sit in a correct posture in front of mirror. Physiotherapy will help you muscle relaxation and other bone deformity. Try these things it will help you.

Hello, knee is most remarkable complex joint of body heavily dependent for stability on ligaments intra-articular and extra-articular stabilisers. In squatting position knee gets heavily stressed. Obesity also increases instability of joint. You must visit qualified physiotherapist for proper knee examine. Avoid squatting position.

Bone health: Tips to keep your bones strong and Healthy

Our bones are continuously changing ? new bone is made and old bone is broken down. When you're young, your body makes new bone faster than it breaks down old bone, and your bone mass increases. Most people reach their peak bone mass around age 30. After that, bone remodeling continues, but you lose slightly more bone mass than you gain.

Include plenty of calcium in your diet.
For adults ages 19 to 50 and men ages 51 to 70, the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) is 1,000 milligrams (mg) of calcium a day. The recommendation increases to 1,200 mg a day for women after age 50 and for men after age 70. Good sources of calcium include dairy products, almonds, broccoli, kale, canned salmon with bones, sardines and soy products.

Pay attention to vitamin D.
Your body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium. For adults ages 19 to 70, the RDA of vitamin D is 600 international units (IUs) a day. The recommendation increases to 800 IUs a day for adults age 71 and older. Good sources of vitamin D include oily fish, egg yolks and fortified milk. Sunlight also contributes to the body's production of vitamin D.

Include physical activity in your daily routine. Weight-bearing exercises, such as walking, jogging, tennis and climbing stairs, can help you build strong bones and slow bone loss.

I am a 37 years old man having back ache problem. X ray shows lumbar spondylosis and mri shows diffuse disk bulge at l1 -l4 with degenerative change and schmorl node d10-d12. Please tell me about future consequences and advise further treatment. If government doctor tells that's not a problem and no treatment req then what to do medically as well as legally. Please advise. Thanks.

If your pain is not going down the leg then the disc prolapse is probably minimal and not compressing on the nerves significantly. Get your vitamin d levels done fasting-it may be low. Also learn spinal extension exercises from a physiotherapist and do those 20 mins 3 times a day. Some pain killers will help in the interim period.
