Hello want to ask about my teeth I used to brush daily with dabur red powder but ther is black kind of material is deposited at the junction of teeth and gum I brushed hard to remove that blackish type material but its not get removed till now and my teeth are also not so clean as they should please suggest me some medicine or tooth powder to cure this I will be grateful to you.

MDS - Periodontics
Dentist, Thane
The black material that you are seeing is called as tartar or calculus in medical terminology. It is always advisable to get a thorough cleaning of the teeth done at least once a year so that this kind of material does not accumulate between your gums and teeth. There is no toothpaste or a tooth powder that will be able to remove this material as it gets adhered to the mechanical irregularities of your teeth. Please see a dentist or preferably a gum specialist to get it removed.

Hello As per your query, I have a few confirmations before i can decide what best can be done for you. 1) Are your other teeth strong? If yes. Never plan to remove them. 2) If you are a diabetic, plan for a fixed replacement therapy such as implants, bridges etc, and not dentures( though fixed replacement is a tad expensive). 3) Trusting a dental clinic is your choice . But have trust in the correct treatment plan and your dentist. . Wish you great health and happiness. Love your teeth. Value them as diamonds. Donot lose them. Have regular checkups to keep them healthy.

My wife is 26 years old. She is having a gap between her front teeth. She was not having this problem till a teeth grow end of her left cheek. How to reduce the gap. Please advise.

BDS, MDS - Orthodontics
Dentist, Mumbai
She might have a habit called tongue thrusting due to which the gap is increasing, she can get it closed with orthodontic treatment (braces)(more natural treatment will take few months, or by composite filling or by veneers /crown (cap).

Always make it a practice to encourage your children to inform you if they face any pain or discomfort in the neck or back before it becomes a serious problem.

Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease which occurs because of the inflammation of the gums. It can easily be reversed with daily brushing and flossing and getting dental cleaning done regularly.

I am 25, does wisdom teeth should be removed? I have two wisdom teeth fully. And two are coming. I consulted a doctor he said that there is sufficient space for tooth so no problem. So can I leave it or should I have to cut those teeth?

Bruxism and Its Treatment

Dentist, Gurgaon
Bruxism and Its Treatment

Occasional teeth clenching is fairly common disorder among adults and children throughout the world. But if the teeth grinding occurs repeatedly, it can cause significant damage to your teeth or gums (with chances of potential tooth loss) and overall dental hygiene. Furthermore, recurrent episodes of bruxism might cause other serious complications such as severe headaches, facial pain or disorders in the temporomandibular joints (located in the forepart of the ear).

According to recent studies, 15-33% of children tend to grind their teeth while they develop their first few pairs and generally stop with the gradual development of adult teeth. In adults, this disorder might occur as an involuntary response, completely unbeknownst to the concerned individual.

The most likely causes of bruxism are as follows:

  1. According to the doctors, in 70% of the adults, repressed stress or anxiety might result in teeth grinding while you are sleeping.

  2. Bruxism might also occur as a result of excessive consumption of alcohol, caffeine, sleeping pills, tobacco, and selected anti-depressants.

  3. Bruxism might also occur due to depression and the sheer competitive nature in certain individuals.

  4. Bruxism might also occur due to a serious disorder such as Parkinson ’s disease.

  5. Bruxism might also occur as an axillary of other sleep related disorders such as excessive snoring, sleep apnoea, etc.

  6. If you have an irregular structural alignment among the upper and lower sets of teeth, Bruxism is more likely to occur.

  7. In children, Bruxism might occur as a response from to pain in the ear or tooth.

The following treatments can be implemented to treat permanent instances of bruxism:

  1. If it is caused by severe stress and anxiety, stress management therapies can be very useful to prevent Bruxism.

  2. If you have a habit of grinding your teeth while you are asleep, you can consult your doctor to provide you with mouth guards.

  3. Regulated consumption of alcohol, tobacco might help prevent Bruxism if it is caused by a side effect of either one of them. Likewise, if the disorder occurs due to a side effect of antidepressants or any other psychiatric medications, you must consult your doctor to change the particular medication.

  4. You can also opt for Dental correction procedures like night guard if the reason of the disorder is the misalignment of the upper and lower teeth or other related dental complications. A custom fit night guard will not only safeguard your comfort, but improve the quality of your smile as well.

  5. Although medications are not common, muscle relaxants (for a certain period of time) or Botox injections are prescribed by doctors when the patient does not respond to other forms of treatments. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dentist.

Use colgate visible white for 1 month. If it doesn't work, you can go ahead with professional tooth bleaching with a dentist.

Crown and veneering will increase your smile if fractured or discolored teeth present in oral cavity.

Is there any solution to fill the space between teeth. And how more time it will take, because I wanna do as soon as possible. Please suggest me. Thank you.

Dentist, Gorakhpur
Yes there are many solutions available you must see a dentist. He will check and decide the treatment. He might suggest you fixed braces. But need to check whether the spacing is generalized or just in between 2or 3 tooth. Spacing can also be due to certain habits which might lay necessity for habit breaking appliance prior to any other treatment. So cannot mention time here.

Do you know that Dental Implants are the most advanced and reliable option for missing teeth replacement. They look and feel like natural teeth with no adverse effects.

I am 28 yrs old (female). My front teeth are not symmetric. Can I use braces now. How much time will it take for correction?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (model study, full mouth & profile x-ray) to decide upon treatment. You may need fixed / removable braces. Requirements may depends on the age, complaint, duration of the treatment & affordability. Cost of cosmetic dentistry (braces) varies with dentist. You may consult me in person. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

While brushing teeth in morning feels like vomiting. Have changed the paste and tried but still the issue remains.

Yoga & Naturopathy Specialist, Delhi
This not very strange. You should reduce the quantity of paste to about one third of you brush length.

Dear Doctor. Hypersalivation for past 6 months with recurring mouth ulcers. Undergone cholecystectomy in 2016. Bowel moments irregular and reflex esophagus is very high. Bitter tasting mouth and halitosis is present. Appetite and normal food. Misaligned teeth and trauma in upper gum is present. Gum painful. Mild pain in throat. Please advice. Thank you.

Dear Lybrate user, according to your history, the recurring mouth ulcers, tender & traumatic gums seem to be a sign of acid reflux which needs to be taken care of asap. Mouth ulcerations can be treated but only after a thorough evaluation of the oral and systematic situation in person. It is advisable for you to meet a dentist so that he/ she can guide you through your condition & provide suitable medical regimen to be followed and you can heal adequately. Stay positive.
