You may give threptin biscuits. But it may not be much helpful to increase wt. Give him home made well cooked in oil or ghee nourishing diet of his choice in addition to milk or milk produts. Don't force him to eat. remedy of mouth ulcer depends on cause of ulcer. Zytee or Orocep gum paint may be tried.

Breastfed Babies Have Lower Childhood Leukemia Risk

MBBS
General Physician, Himatnagar
Breastfed Babies Have Lower Childhood Leukemia Risk
When you are having a baby, chances are good that lots of people will have lots of advice. One of the things they’ll probably recommend is breastfeeding. Everyone from your obstetrician to the nurses in the maternity ward to possibly even your friends and family will tell you that it’s important to nurse, and with good reason. Breastfeeding has been linked with lots of benefits including better bonding with your infant, losing those pregnancy pounds faster, and a higher IQ in your child. And now, new research offers up yet another reason it is important to breastfeed–possibly decreasing the likelihood that your baby will develop leukemia as a child.
The study, which was conducted at the University of Haifa in Israel, found that nursing may lower the risk of pediatric leukemia by 14 to 19 percent. The scientists reached this conclusion by performing a meta-analysis of 18 studies that had been previously published. The subjects of each of the 18 investigations were mothers of children who had been diagnosed with leukemia and mothers of children who were healthy. They were asked questions that included whether or not they breastfed their children and their responses were compiled and compared.
The research was not designed to prove cause and effect, and these findings in no way show that failure to nurse a baby causes pediatric leukemia. However, that difference of 14 to 19 percent is significant enough to establish an association between breastfeeding and lowering a child’s risk of this disease. The scientists found that it was a minimum of six months of breastfeeding that appears to confer some type of protection.
The major weakness of this type of study is that the findings are based on recall. You might think that you would certainly remember the length of time that you nursed a child, but if you are asked about it several years later and have more than one kid, some of the details might be a little fuzzy. However, even if that is an issue, it stands to reason that most mothers can provide a fairly accurate account of whether or not they breastfed and the approximate duration.
At any rate, even if the 14 to 19 percent determined by the scientists is slightly off, the evidence still provides a link to reducing the chance of your child developing leukemia. And any potential reduction of a risk like that is something most mothers would jump at. Leukemias, which affect the bone marrow and blood, are responsible for approximately 30 percent of all pediatric cancers according to the American Cancer Society. It is the most common form of childhood cancer, and treatment typically involves chemotherapy and sometimes radiation or surgery as well.
While the research did not address exactly how breastfeeding might help prevent pediatric leukemia, the answer might lie in a 2014 study at the University of Kentucky in Lexington that showed breast milk is an effective route of transmitting antibodies from mother to baby. These antibodies serve a valuable function by quickly bringing the infant’s immune system up to speed and helping the child fight off infections. And as Jon Barron has pointed out, cancer is intimately tied to the strength of your immune system. Other research has found that breastfed babies are hospitalized less frequently than their bottle-fed counterparts, have a lower risk of sudden infant death syndrome, and have diminished rates of ear infections, diarrhea, allergies, anddiabetes.
Ultimately, to breastfeed a child or not is a matter of choice. But with so many proven health benefits to both infant and mother (breastfeeding has been shown to reduce your risk of breast and ovarian cancer as well as rheumatoid arthritis), it is hard to imagine many reasons why a woman would choose formula over nursing. Of course sometimes there are extenuating circumstances due to an adoption, inability to produce sufficient quantities of breast milk, and other issues that might preclude nursing. But any time spent breastfeeding is worthwhile for the health of both you and your little one.

My brother is 12 now but he still is wetting his bed. What is the problem why is he still bedwetting? What is the cure?
It appears, probably your brother had never been dry since birth. in such cases there are chances of defect in urinary path way. If he has restarted bed wetting after a good dry period of years, get him investigated for urinary infection and look for any stress. Cure is according to cause.

Hi Doctor, My 4 years son has fever since six days. It was at 104.6 the first three days (lowest being 100, during that time) now the maximum has come down to 101 since day before but its still there. He also has sore throat and vomits once everyday (either morning after having milk or post dinner after medicines). Please advice if we should start with the antibiotics. What should be the line of action. Thanks.

Since temp is coming down without antibiotic and child is taking diet and is not much down, you may continue medicine. It had been better if you have mentioned medicines for proper advice. Even then it is suggested to consult doctor since child is having sore throat too. Vomiting once is not so significant.

Hello Sir, My name is rinkal and I am a breastfeeding mother of 1.3 years baby. I am suffering from headache since December 2015. And I am having a problem of depression after my father's death I July 2015. I became angry and nervous which cause my hands and lips shiver. Due to this I became week also. I have loose too much weight and forgotten to smile, and to talk to others.

Hi lybrate-user sadness and strain of a new baby+your loss can all cause tremendous pressure on you both physically and mentally. There's a saying that if a birth and death occurs closely the soul doesn't leave and is actually reborn. Your father's blessing will always be there with you. Your child us totally dependant on you and that's a very large responsibility that makes all new moms cranky. Don't be hard on yourself. Have a balanced diet, plenty of water and fluids mother's diet. Then she should have 1800 to 2200calorie perday yo breastfeed comfortably. She can have 5 portions of fruits whatever us seasonally available preferred during day time. Drink plenty of water 4 to 6 lper day. Water is important for hydration and good flow of milk. Apples, papaya, my samba, banana are all good. Ask her to have dry fruits few pieces twice a day. (almond+kishmish) plenty of green veggies. Good protein source with each meal (no soya). Additional 550 calorie more than your regular diet. Extra protein of at least 12 to 18 gram +50 gram of normal protein. Daal, chana iron+calcium/vitd3supplements. This is the general plan for a more detailed plan. I would need your bodyweight and height work level (sedentary/working) regular diet that you have tests. Cbc with esr serum calcium and 25 (oh) vitd3 levels sleep when baby sleeps. Meditate for 10 minutes do something you love everyday pray things will get better hope this helps.

My daughter is 7 years old and she is having bed wetting problem. Please do suggest me what should I do ?

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Ghaziabad
Is it recent or from the beginning? if recent, get her urine tested, if normal, then local irritation is the cause. If since birth, don't panic. Some children take a longer time to b continent. Make some lifestyle changes:- 1. Dinner and bed time shud b atleast 2 hrs apart. 2. Do not give milk or any fluid bfore bed. 3. Make sure she passes urine just bfore bed. 4. It is seen that kids usually pass urine in sleep at a fixed time gap, so you have to time it, and then wake her up just before that time period to visit the bathroom. All these measures usually help, but if nothing works (in case of bed wetting since birth), try homoeopathy.

Hydration is the most important aspect in patients with diarrhoea and vomitting. Give him ors, zinc and probiotics along with ondansatron for vomitting. The dose is based on his weight. If there is persistent vomiting, reduced urine output, lethargy, not taking oral intake or excessive diarrhoea consult a pediatrician. Warm regards.

Probably maxtra is trade name. Generic is convenient for proper advice. Anyway if maxtra is antibiotic, it has no role in Common cold n cough. U can instill saline nasal drop in each nostrils 3 to 4 times in a day n can give antihistamine.
