Keep Yourself Hydrated To Improve Skin Health!

Keep Yourself Hydrated To Improve Skin Health!

Approximately 60% of the human body consists of water. It is one of the most important components that help in the process of digestion, blood circulation, mineral absorption and even excretion, ensuring smooth functioning of your system. A mere drop in the water content of your body can lead to dehydration, which can affect your body in more than one ways. Dehydration can also take a toll on your skin leaving it dry and lifeless. In order to ensure the health of your skin, it is highly recommended to keep your system hydrated.

How drinking water affects the skin?

  1. Keeps skin soft: Skin is made up of 3 layers namely, epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous tissue. When the water content of the outermost layer of the epidermis is insufficient, your skin tends to lose elasticity and feel rough. Intake of adequate water hydrates the skin cells and makes them function properly, making your skin soft and supple.
  2. Moisturizes dry skin and lessens the appearance of wrinkles: Insufficient intake of water makes your skin appear dry and flaky; such a skin is more prone to wrinkling. When you drink sufficient water your skin cells hydrate from within. Hydrated skin is resilient in nature and therefore, it has less chance of suffering from premature wrinkling.
  3. Improves skin tone: Water is known for its abilities to flush out toxins from your system and for maintaining the proper functioning of your kidneys. Sufficient intake of water ensures that harmful toxins and impurities are regularly flushed out of your system, thereby, adding a healthy glow to your skin.
  4. Makes your skin appear younger: It is advised to drink minimum 8 glasses of water a day to keep your body hydrated. The condition of your health can be analyzed from the condition of your skin, as a body that is hydrated well, makes your skin appear healthy too.
  5. Get rid of dark circles: The problem of dark circles arise over the years due to the damage of the capillaries under the eyes. The skin around the eyes is thinner than facial skin, which hinders the smooth flow of fluid through them. Plenty intake of water on a regular basis can reduce the appearance of dark circles dramatically, making your skin appear healthy. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.

GERD - 6 Ways You Can Manage It!

MBBS, AFIH, PGDMLS, MD-HRM, MD-HM
General Physician, Gurgaon
GERD - 6 Ways You Can Manage It!

Feeling acidic after eating a heavy meal can often make you regret those last few morsels. This acidic sensation is known as acid reflux or Gastroesophageal reflux disease, better known as GERD. GERD occurs when the functioning of the lower oesophagus muscles is restricted. This makes the undigested food in the stomach and stomach acids leak back into the oesophagus.

Thankfully, this is not something you have to live with and a few simple lifestyle changes can help resolve the situation.

  1. Do not lie down after eating: When your body is in a horizontal position, there are higher chances of food being regurgitated into the oesophagus. To avoid this, finish your meals at least 3 hours before going to bed. Sit upright while eating and do not lie down or slouch immediately after eating. This gives the food time to be digested and move out of the stomach.
  2. Limit your food intake: Overeating is one of the most common triggers of GERD. Cutting down your portion sizes can instantly reduce the number of GERD occurrences. Instead of eating large, heavy meals, shorten the duration between meals and have more frequent small meals.
  3. Avoid foods that trigger acidity: With time, you will soon realise which types of foods trigger an acidic reaction. Some common triggers are onions, peppermint, caffeine, citrus fruits etc. Keeping a diary can help identify such foods and ease your problem.
  4. Quit Smoking: Nicotine not only harms your lungs, but can affect your digestive system as well. It is responsible for weakening the muscles that control the opening between the stomach and oesophagus. This allows stomach acids and food from the stomach to re-enter the oesophagus. Alcohol can also worsen GERD symptoms and hence it is better to avoid alcohol is you suffer from frequent bouts of acid reflux.
  5. Lose weight: Overeating, obesity and acid reflux go hand in hand. Being overweight can put extra pressure on your stomach and abdomen, thus pushing food and gastric juices into the oesophagus. Losing this extra weight should effectively resolve your acid reflux problem if you are overweight.
  6. Look at your medications: Some types of medication too can cause acid reflux by interfering with the digestive system and irritating the oesophagus. These types of medication include blood pressure medication, asthma medication, Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, bisphosphonates, sedatives and painkillers. Do not simply stop taking these medications, but talk to a doctor about replacing them with something else.

I have blackheads on my nose.
How should I remove that.
Tell me any homoeopathy.
I tried salicylic acid.
Mix the honey and the cinnamon together until you have enough paste to cover the affected area. Apply in a thin layer over the blackheads and then press a strip of clean cotton over it. Let it sit for 3-5 minutes before removing and rinsing your face. Don't forget to follow up with a moisturizer

Hi. How long does glyco-12 takes to lighten my hands and feet?
Is there any creams which does better?
GLYCO-12 DOES NOT LIGHTEN YOUR COLOUR BUT REMOVES SUPERFICIAL LAYERS OF SKIN TOO GIVE A FRESH LOOK No cream or drug can make your skin colour lighter than your natural skin colour which is apparant in your covered body area. The exposed area becomes a bit darker because of tanning. You can remove tanning and dark spots by melalite-XL cream or Benoquin 2%

Hello, You need not to worry about your disease as we have got expertise in treating Vitiligo (white spot). With more than 20000 patients in last 15 years we have refined ayurvedic treatment which is capable of giving quick results and is safe. Vitiligo (white spot) is a genetic disorder triggered by indigestion and stressful conditions. There is always a confusion in patients’ mind regarding choosing right treatment approach for vitiligo. Every patient has 3 choices: 1.Allopathy - gives quick results but is not very safe for long term use. 2.Homeopathy- is safe but very slow and in most of cases it can not stop the spread of disease i.e old patches show some recovery but new white patches continue to come even while using the medication. 3.Ayurveda -If one thinks about. It is difficult to find a good Consultant. Suggesting any medicines or local application to you will not be a good idea, as I will require a complete case taking so that the root of cause is eliminated to prevent relapse. You can send pictures of the affected area. After reviewing the case individually, will guide you about the best possible treatment and time frame.

I have sun burns I am 18 years old. My skin is very dull. Skin tan is dark. Please help.
Hello. You can start using Bioforce's Blooume - 55 ointment (for clear skin) twice daily and also use Bakson's Suncare Sunscreen, 20-30 minutes before stepping out under the sun. Home remedies: Mix one tablespoon of turmeric powder with enough pineapple juice to make a paste. Apply the paste to your face and neck. Leave it on until the paste dries completely. Then wash it off with lukewarm water. Follow this remedy two or three times a week to reduce the appearance of spots on skin. Make a paste by mixing equal amounts of turmeric powder and gram flour with a little water or milk. Apply it evenly on your skin and leave it on until it dries. Wash it off with lukewarm water, scrubbing your skin gently in a circular motion. Follow this remedy once a week to lighten your skin tone and remove scars. Extract the gel from an aloe vera leaf. Apply the gel on your face using a cotton ball. Allow it to dry on its own for about half an hour, and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Follow this remedy daily or several times per week. Cut a fresh cucumber into thick slices, and rub them thoroughly all over your face. Leave it on overnight and rinse with warm water in the morning. Do this daily before going to bed. Alternatively, make a mixture with equal amounts of cucumber juice and lemon juice. Apply this mixture to your skin, allow it to dry completely, and then wash it off with warm water. Do this daily.

Please consult a expericed dermatologist (with a MD dermatology, or DNB degree. Since it's increasing, there can be many differential diagnosis which includes hereditary causes, cosmetic dermatitis, lichen planus pigmentosus or it could be just Tyndall effect due to light. Take proper sleep of already 8 hours at right time. You can apply fixderma undereye cream at night for 3 months and apply plane and bland moisturizer like cetaphil moisturing cream in morning. Improve your lifestyle. Fillers maybe required in certain cases where Tyndall effect is the cause. Certain cases don't improve. It is possible to treat it only if a expericed and qualified dermat (with MD or DNB degree looks at it). Stop all fairness cream and other things which you are applying like hair dyes

Hi . Is it completely white or just light coloured skin? and also ask her if she has had this problem earlier in summer months. If yes we are probably looking at a fungal infection which is simple to deal with.

I had fissure over a months. Taken a lots of medicine nothing is been happened. What to do.

MS - General Surgery
General Surgeon, Pune
Background reason for fissure to occur is the hard motion. Rather most of the anorectal problems like fissure, piles or fistula occur because of hard motions, constipation and the habit of straining at stools. Our diet if enriched with natursl fibers will retain small quantity of water and stools will become soft and in a way become easy to evacuate. Carrot, cucumber, raddish, beat, green leafy vegerables like spinach have plenty of natural fibers and help evacuation. If inspite of taking such a healthy diet if the habit of straining continues, then its a time to evaluate further. Examination by a surgeon which includes anoproctoscopy may be followed by anorectal manometry and defecogram depending on the findings of earlier evaluation.
