You must go and meet with a counselor immediately and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor you must do so and cooperate to your utmost. Please visit these professionals along with your parents. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

Im 18 and have been going through a lot of stuff and my life which I thought will change for the better when I changed from school to college has been disastrous. I wanted to socialise but I am still an idiot. My friends lie to me making it look as though they are doing bad too but I always see them in a better place than im in and just say that so that I will not be jealous or excited about their life. I think I am having depression and I would love to change my head for the better as I am having big goals but my depression gets higher each time I fail and as I look at my friends I really need a consultation as I do not like my life and have even thought of suicide. SO please help me before I take a wrong turn in life.

It appears that you have suffered at very early stage in life. Do not compare yourself with your friends. In fact, try to understand that those people who hurt who are not your friends. Friends will help you in boosting your confidence. They will support you. Do not call yourself an idiot. Because if you have reached a college, then you have something in you and you are not an idiot. Make list of good things about you or your strengths. Read it every day. Make a list of your weaknesses. Try to improve upon them. Many life skills can be learnt. It is wonderful that you are having big goals. See that they are realistic. Then make a plan to achieve those goals slowly and steadily. Go step by step. After every small achievement pat yourself or reward yourself. A person thinks about suicide, when he/she thinks that, suicide is the best option. But that may not be true. You need to explore many different options to solve life's problems. Have faith in yourself. All the best.

Tips on Managing Your Marriage Relationships

Post Graduate Diploma in Pyschology

Tips on Managing Your Marriage Relationships

Every married couple undergoes relationship troubles, but these troubles should not linger for a long time otherwise you might end up facing dreadful consequences. If you want to save your married life by maintaining a smooth relation with your partner, then you have to look for the best solutions that can resolve marital issues.

How to manage marital relationships?

  1. Maintaining Trust: Since trust is the base of every relationship, therefore you should make special effort in maintaining the same. Unresolved issues should be resolved quickly and there should be transparent communication between the married couples. Some of the special qualities that should be maintained in order to maintain trust within a marital relationship in long run are being on time, consistency, being sensitive towards feelings, avoiding lies, sharing feelings, respecting partner's feelings, avoiding jealousy and others.
  2. Healthy Communication: If the problems remain unresolved, then more and more conflicts will be invited. Have open discussions and clear up your points so that confusions can be eliminated. If you make efforts in understanding the real causes, then only the problems can be resolved. You need to put yourself in the shoes of the partner and understand where the person is coming from. Most conflicts occur because we only see our view points and not that of others.
  3. Giving time to the relationship: You can maintain your marital relationship in a healthy state only by considering the married life as the prior issue. Keep your marriage above every other social thing and then only relationship can be made secured. Give time for repairing all dubs and defects of your relationship. In this case, you can also take the help of any expert counsellor. Spend some quality time with each other so that the warmth of your relationship can be maintained.
  4. Tackling monetary problems: Do not allow any conflict to come into your relationship just because of a pathetic financial condition. It is important for both the partners to put-in efforts in saving money so that monthly expenses can be kept under strict control. A perfect budget needs to be scheduled so that financial strength can be restored. If you are incapable of catering financial support, support your partner at least mentally so that he can come out of the financial trouble as soon as possible.
  5. Maintain a Happy Sexual Life: Create a proper schedule for lovemaking in order to maintain a healthy sex life. You should try to know the sexual needs of your partner so that you can fulfil the expectations.

5 Ways to Fight Depression If you feel depressed, it's best to do something about it — depression doesn't just go away on its own. In addition to getting help from a doctor or therapist, here are 5 things you can do to feel better. 1.Exercise. Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better. 2.Nurture yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat. Proper nutrition can influence a person's mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don't feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going). 3.Identify troubles, but don't dwell on them. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what's got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. 4. Express yourself. With depression, a person's creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood. 5. Try to notice good things. Depression affects a person's thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don't forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal. If you are happy with these answers please click on "useful” link so that I can know my efforts are not wasted. If you want more clarifications or prescription for medicines consult me on this site to ask me directly and not in open questions session It's not easy to say exactly what causes depression and anxiety – it's different for everyone. Sometimes a difficult time in you or your mates' life can set off depression or anxiety, sometimes it's caused by a combination of things that has built up over time and sometimes, there's just no obvious cause at all.

Hi there ~ what is tramadol? tramadol (brand name: ultram) is an opioid analgesic (painkiller). It is prescribed to treat moderate to moderately severe pain and is considered a safer alternative to other narcotic analgesics like hydrocodone (vicodin, lortab) and methadone. Additional medications containing tramadol include ultram er, an extended release formulation for round-the-clock pain relief, and ultracet, a combination of tramadol and acetaminophen (tylenol). No one should have to suffer from addiction alone. Dependence additionally, abusing tramadol can lead to tolerance and dependence. Psychological dependence individuals who abuse tramadol for an extended period of time and develop psychological dependence may begin to experience compulsive cravings to take the drug and to feel that they need it to cope with everyday problems. People who are psychologically addicted to tramadol can feel anxiety if they do not have access to the drug and will engage in behaviors such as doctor shopping or prescription forgery in order to maintain their supply. Peer recovery organizations such as smart recovery, lifering secular recovery, and 12-step groups provide a forum for people in recovery to share their experiences and offer support to one another.

I have smoking habit. please tell me that how can I get rid from it and what are the disadvantages of smoking on body.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
I suppose you mean how to be able to stop the habit. That is really good that you want to stop smoking because it is really very harmful. Just the fact that you want to give up smoking is a good starting point. The habit can be very difficult to halt because of the many conditions attached to smoking. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine chewing gum or nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces substantially. You may also join smokers anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i. E. At least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here? s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world? you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest. All the damage you incurred earlier because of the smoking can be reverted back to normal in quick time.

Relax dear lybrate user. Your wife (step mom) has undergone a series of uncommon experiences in her life. First, she had to adjust to or tolerate the thought as a second wife that is not deirable to any women. Second, she has to adjust with the sudden death of her husband (your father). Third, she might be having a feeling of guilt that she had married a person who was in a position of her son and also the fear of social viwes about the new relationship with you. All these happenings need a substantial amount of time to get adjusted. In her case all these happened within a short perod of time. Even though it is difficult to practice for a young person like you, I suggest you to be friendly with her and not to hurry for sex at least for a month. Give her your emotional support as much as possible and let her express her feelings freely. As time advaces you will certainly have a good love life. I wish you a happy married life.

If you do not have social contact, then you are in serious trouble because this is quite natural to every normal person. We are all social animals and need each other and are dependent with each other. So whatever your background, go out and meet people and befriend them too. You have to find common grounds to interact with them and then you will develop the art over a period of time. You should also join cultural clubs, attend various types of meetings, conferences, seminars, discourses etc. You may also do a good personality development course and work on your personality. You need to develop comfort relating to people and grow into a good socialite.

My brother 32 years old, drinks more alcohol & smoking a lot of cigarettes. How I can control him to avoid these? please suggest me?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
You cannot control him. He must want to leave these habits, ideally. You can however sped a lot of time convincing him that his habit will ruin him and shorten life, which he so much enjoys unfortunately by using chemical means. The more information (without hyping it up) you learn and share with him, the better the chances of him wanting to quit. Ideally he must want to stop these habits. Otherwise it will become a futile exercise. If these habits have become too much then you will need to admit him into a center for rehabilitation. He will need to be there for at least 6 months and they will do detoxification and treatment for the addictive nature followed by extensive counseling. There are medicines that help with the drinking just to ease the initial craving and to act as an antabuse i. E. He will have a serious reaction, if he consumes even a small quantity of alcohol or alcohol based substances. It has to be carefully monitored to see that he not only consumes the medication but is also avoiding alcohol. Ultimately, it is his will power and the support that he receives from the medical fraternity and his close and dear ones. He must also learn to substitute and deal with the oral need, a rigid value system, the script issue, and of course take a look at all the genetic factors to plan a strategy not to get into what is called ‘cross addictions’ i. E. Another form of addiction that may appear alright but is in fact as bad as the primary addiction. The center or hospital and the counselor will advise and guide him on several measures and precautions he will need to take to stay with his resolve. Even after the rehabilitation he must attend AA meetings and continue this support for a long time. The family will also need to attend some sessions and go for Al-anon meetings for their co-dependency issues. He cannot be treated in isolation because the family has gotten used to his drinking and have made some unhealthy adaptations to somehow cope. Make a serious plan with whoever else’s support he can get and act on it fast. If he is not cooperative, there are some centers that will come and pick him up, after he is completely drunk, and admit him by force. This will however, require the family’s consent.
