What would you like to know about menopause?

MICOG, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Gurgaon
What would you like to know about menopause?

What exactly happens during menopause?

You may have heard the word menopause mentioned by women with both excitement and trepidation; excitement because menopause means the end of painful and annoying periods, but trepidation, because it comes along with uncomfortable symptoms and also means the end of a woman's fertility.

A woman officially goes through menopause twelve months after her last cycle. In other words, if you don't have a period for twelve months, you are considered to be in menopause. While the age that this happens often varies, the average age is 51 years.

Menopause is a natural process that, on average, takes four years to complete. During the process, a woman's ovaries get smaller and eventually stop producing the hormones estrogen and progesterone.

Since these hormones control the menstrual cycle, once they are not produced anymore, the eggs become depleted and eventually she is no longer able to get pregnant.

The different stages of menopause are:
Perimenopause, during which your periods become irregular but don't stop. Perimenopause usually occurs to women in their late 40s, along with uncomfortable symptoms such as the famed 'hot flashes' (a quick feeling of heat sometimes accompanied by a flushed face and sweating), lower energy, vaginal dryness, sleep problems, night sweats, and changes in metabolism and mood. While you may be in the early stage of menopause, don't think you cannot get pregnant because you can! if you don't want to become pregnant, we recommend that you use some form of birth control to be safe.
Menopause. Menopause can really only be determined after the fact and since it starts 12 months after your last period. The same symptoms that can occur during perimenopause can also occur during menopause.
Postmenopause, a stage that lasts for a woman's entire life after menopause. Unfortunately, a recent study found that women can experience symptoms of menopause for an average of 4.5 years after their last period, so don't be surprised if you have hot flashes even while you are postmenopausal.
What can you do to relieve symptoms?
To clarify, menopause doesn't need treatment it's a natural part of life! but the symptoms can be uncomfortable, so there is no reason you shouldn't seek to relieve them, especially if the symptoms interfere with the quality of your life. So what can you do?
Maintain a healthy diet and regular exercise
Kick your bad habits, such as smoking and drinking a lot of alcohol
Avoid caffeine (caffeine often triggers hot flashes)
Remain sexually active! it can help preserve the lining of the vagina
Talk to your doctor about a prescription medication for hot flashes
Other causes of menopause: other causes of menopause (or early menopause) can be a hysterectomy, chemotherapy or radiation therapy, chronic diseases or primary ovarian insufficiency. If this describes your situation, speak to your doctor about how to relieve your symptoms. You should also speak to your doctor if you experience any vaginal bleeding in your postmenopausal state.
Your sex life after menopause
Just because you no longer get your period doesn't mean you can't have sex. In fact, some women report an increased sex drive after menopause, because they don't have the same anxiety about getting pregnant. On the other hand, other women report a decreased sex drive, which can be due to any number of reasons, including vaginal dryness, sleep problems, medications, depression, or more difficulty getting aroused. These symptoms, however, are able to be treated, if there is a will.

Suffering from severe cough and cold and really become difficult to pass last night Just got in 1 day and worst in night even when I am taking montelukast from last few days nasal spray flomist is also not working and not getting relief. Lips are also drying and itching please suggest which medicine to take Thanx.

I have sugar and high cholesterol levels. so, please give me advise and medicine.?
High cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain.garlic,. It is a thing to worry about , although the possibility of any underlying heart problem is negligible.Chest pain can be more related to either muscular or nervous but for this a thorough physical examination is required. So I will suggest you to see your local doctor to rule out any underlying heart problem immediately.

Home Remedies For Bad Breath in Hindi -

Home Remedies For Bad Breath in Hindi -

4 Top Reasons for Loss of Penis Sensitivity!

MD - General Medicine
Sexologist, Delhi
4 Top Reasons for Loss of Penis Sensitivity!

When something goes wrong with a man's penis, it's a sure bet he's very aware of it - and probably wondering what's going on. In fact, many issues with penis sensitivity come about from factors a man might be able to control with some minor changes in penis care. Other issues might require the help of a doctor, but in most cases, a man can overcome a loss of penis sensitivity and go on to enjoy an active, fulfilling sex life.

The top reasons for loss of penis sensitivity:

Though there are other causes for loss of penis sensation, these reasons are the most common:

1. Dry penis skin. This is the number one culprit for loss of penis sensation or sensitivity. And the good news is that it's very easy to remedy! The penis skin is very delicate, and it's constantly bombarded with things that can lead to irritation and redness. These include the touch of underwear or clothing against the skin, the use of soaps and other cleansing agents that tend to have a drying effect, and of course, vigorous masturbation. But other problems can come from exposure to latex, lubricants, bodily fluids and even perfumes and detergents that might lead to allergic reactions. All of these issues lead to dry penis skin.

2. Problems with blood flow. When the circulation in the body is compromised, it affects everywhere - including the penis. There are many things that can lead to poor blood circulation, including smoking, being overweight, chronic health problems like diabetes or high blood pressure, wearing restrictive clothing or even some physical activities, such as regularly riding a bike or a horse. Many of these issues, such as smoking, are relatively easy for a man to remedy. Some others, like diabetes, might call for the help of a physician to get under control.

3. Issues with nerves. Though this is certainly not as common as the first two reasons for loss of penis sensation, it does happen, and sometimes it sneaks up on a guy. For example, diabetic neuropathy - or the nerve damage that comes from uncontrolled diabetes - might appear before a person even realizes they have diabetes. Some nerve issues are well-known for the guy who has them, such as nerve problems resulting from back surgery. In many cases, controlling underlying problems can help a man overcome the nerve damage and lead a more fulfilling sex life.

4. Issues with the prostate. As a man ages, prostate problems become much more common. One of the most common is enlargement of the prostate gland, which means the gland will then push against other organs in the area, leading to trouble with not only erections, but with penis sensation as well. Men who suffer from prostate cancer, including some treatments for it as well as the result of surgery, might also notice a lack of penis sensitivity as time goes on. In most cases, there are treatments that can help enhance and improve penis sensation for men who have dealt with these issues.

The best home remedy for loss of penis sensitivity

A man who worries about losing penis sensation can look to a top-notch penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) to help ensure the most healthy penis skin possible. A good crème should contain a plethora of fantastic ingredients, including vitamin C, D, B5 and A - all great vitamins that work together to enhance penis health. All these wrapped up with amino acids, such as L arginine and L carnitine, in a Shea butter and vitamin E base can promise relief from dry penis skin, as well as help with other penis health concerns.

Lupus (Skin Rash) - How It Can Be Treated?

MBBS, Diploma in Venerology & Dermatology (DVD)

Lupus (Skin Rash) - How It Can Be Treated?

Lupus is an inflammatory disease that is chronic in nature. It occurs when your tissues and organs are attacked by your body's own immunity system. The inflammation that this disease causes can affect the other parts of your body as well, like the joints, kidneys, skin, brain etc. It is often difficult to diagnose because it lacks distinct symptoms. However, one of the most identifiable symptoms of lupus is a ring-shaped rash on the face.

Lupus can be caused by a number of factors like:

  1. Excessive exposure to sunlight
  2. Susceptibility towards infections
  3. Certain anti-seizure, blood pressure and antibiotic medicines

Symptoms
The symptoms are neither distinct nor regular. However, some common symptoms could be-

  1. Fatigue and fever
  2. Pain in the joints, stiffness and swelling
  3. Ring-shaped facial rash
  4. Skin lesions on exposure to the sun
  5. Chest pain and shortness of breath

What else can lupus lead to?

Several complications may arise if lupus is left untreated. Some of them are-

  1. Kidney damage and failure
  2. Hallucination, seizures, strokes and several other problems associated with the brain and the central nervous system
  3. Anemia, blood clotting, vasculitis etc.
  4. Increased susceptibility to pneumonia
  5. Increased risk of heart attacks and other cardiovascular diseases

Treatment
Lupus is a significantly dangerous disease and medical help should be immediately sought if you think that you have symptoms associated with it. Treatment depends on the signs and symptoms of individual patients. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Dermatologist.
