Hello, Macular degeneration is a pathological condition that occurs in the macular area of the retina. The macula is the area of the retina responsible for central vision or that which gives us the greatest detail in our sight. Since there is no effective allopathic treatment, why not try homoeopathy. Macular degeneration can be treated Homoeopathically just like any other disease state of the body. The constitutional approach works best, the goal being to find the remedy for the totality of the case. So need to know you as a whole to prescribe any medicine. Thank you.

Are You at a Risk of Glaucoma? What You Need to Know?

Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Are You at a Risk of Glaucoma? What You Need to Know?

Glaucoma is a group of diseases that causes damage to your eye's optic nerve and gets worse over time. The optic nerve is a bundle of millions of nerve fibres which carry visual impulse from the retina at the back of eye to the brain. The increased Eye pressure, called intraocular pressure, can damage the optic nerve and fasten the natural nerve fibre loss. Since nerve cells can't regenerate this damage is permanent and irreversible.

Without treatment, glaucoma can cause total permanent blindness within a few years. Because most people with glaucoma have no early symptoms or pain from this increased pressure, it is important to see your eye doctor regularly so that glaucoma can be diagnosed early and treated before significant functional visual loss occurs.

If you are over age 40 and have a family history of glaucoma, you should have a complete eye exam with an eye doctor every one to two years. If you have any risk factors, you may need to visit your eye doctor more frequently.

What Are the Symptoms of Glaucoma?

For most people, there are usually few or no symptoms of glaucoma. The first sign of glaucoma is often the loss of peripheral or side vision, which can go unnoticed until late in the disease. This is why glaucoma is often called the "Sneak Thief of Vision" or "Silent Thief of Eye Sight".

If you have any of the following symptoms, seek immediate medical care:

  1. Seeing halos around lights
  2. Vision loss
  3. Redness in the eye
  4. Eye that looks hazy (particularly in infants)
  5. Nausea or vomiting
  6. Pain in the eye
  7. Narrowing of vision (tunnel vision)

Risk Factors:

There are several risk factors, which may lead to glaucoma, such as:

  1. Age of the individual
  2. Ethnicity- African, Caribbean, Hispanics and Asians are at higher risk
  3. Increased eye pressure or IOP History of glaucoma in family or relatives
  4. Presence of Myopia or Hyperopia
  5. Previous eye injuries
  6. Use of steroids- as injections, tablets, eye or ear drops or ointments or protein supplements for muscle building in gyms or inhalers
  7. Previous history of anemia
  8. Individuals conditions affecting blood flow like hypertension, diabetes or high blood sugar, migraine etc are also at risk.

Treatment:

The treatment for glaucoma relies on the nature and seriousness of every case. Generally, glaucoma cannot be totally cured, but it can be controlled. Eye drops, pills, laser strategies, and means of surgery are utilized to maintain and prevent further harm from happening. Talk to your eye doctor to find out if you are at risk of developing glaucoma. If you wish to discuss about any specific eye problem, you can consult a specilized opthamologist and ask a free question.

When I do study after sometime my eyes are red. Plzz guve mee any solution off this problem?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
When I do study after sometime my eyes are red. Plzz guve mee any solution off this problem?
Eyes appear red because the vessels at the surface of the white portion of the eye (sclera) become swollen. Vessels may swell either due to---------- 1. Dim light in the room where you study------------------------ 2. Weak eyesight------------------------------------- 3. Eye strain due to continuous study without breaks or dimlight----------- 4. Eye dryness due to continuous study-------------------------- the first thing you can do is change your environment and work habits. By doing this you can relieve the pain and redness without spending money on treatment. Try taking more eye breaks by looking down the hall or out the window, or by closing your eyes for thirty seconds.--------------------- if you spend a lot of time sitting and reading, you may need prescription glasses solely for those activities.-----------------while studying taking eye breaks for five minutes every hour can lessen the strain on your eyes. Simply closing your eyes for a few moments can also do wonders. Try standing up, moving around, or taking a short walk to help regain concentration. Regular eye exercises that involve focusing on different distances can help prevent future straining. Blink often. Blinking refreshes and replenishes your eyes naturally. If you are having trouble with blinking due to the dryness of your eyes, try using homoeopathic cinelube eyedrops (hapdco) 3 times daily.

Irritation can be commonly due to allergy or infection or dryness, you need to visit nearby eye surgeon to check that. Also get your glass power checked.

These could be signs of muscle tension headaches or stress headache. What you need is relaxation. Try some muscle relaxation exercises like yoga, meditation etc. If you find that difficult and have sleep problems too then do not hesitate to consult a psychiatrist, online if you prefer.

Comprehensive eye check up for eye sight (refractive errors) problems, eye pressure and post segment evaluation and to have treatment accordingly. In case of eye sight problems causing headache you may need spectacles. If everything is good, treatment for headache which will have so many reasons should be taken.

It depends. We need more information to ascertain whether this a paraphilia (obligatory liking for a certain act or part of the body and dependence on it for sexual gratification) or just an intensified common curiosity.

Hello. Sorry about your eye trouble. Drooping of eyelid is technically known as ptosis. There are surgical options that can be used to rectify the drooping of eyelid. The newer options involve fixating the eyelid with the help of a graft material or silicon bands. This helps in preventing recurrence of the drooping. These surgeries are best done in the hands of oculoplastic surgeons. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care.

Dry eye in LASIK is VERY rare. I have encountered just a handful of cases till now. If you are really scared about dry eye go for the most recent procedure called SMILE in which the cut is significantly smaller than LASIK and virtually no chances for dry eye

I think you are addicted to smartphone leading to severe dryness causing all these systems. Dryness is not a disease which you can cure by putting lubricating eye drops for few days, while working on smartphone, computer & watching TV for long time without giving importance to the health of eyes. Number of blinking drastically goes down from around 24 per minute to around 8 per minute while working on computer etc causing severe dryness, blurring of vision, headache & increased blinking to compensate dryness .One who works on smartphone etc will have to change &will have to learn how to work on computer for long time without giving any trouble to eyes .One should look away from computer after every 10 minute & should take rest for 10 minutes after every two hours .Every body knows that to become man from monkey took millions of years according to Darwin theory & how you expect that our eyes will adjust to computer in 20 yrs, nature takes its own time, computer development is just 20 years history, so you will have to take the help of lubricating eye drops to neutralise the effect of computer etc. You may use Systane ultra eye drops 3-4 times daily.

Uveitis: Symptoms and Treatment

Uveitis: Symptoms and Treatment

There are many kinds of conditions that affect the eyes and make vision difficult - temporarily or even permanently. Uveitis is one such condition that causes eye inflammation in the middle layer of the tissue that resides in the wall of the eye - also known as the Uvea. The progression of the condition is sudden and the symptoms, quite painful.

Let us get to know more with this article:

  • Causes: To understand any condition and how it is to be treated, one must first understand the causes of the said condition. While the specific causes behind the onset of Uveitis are not clear, this inflammatory disorder may be caused as a side effect of others like an autoimmune disorder including those like ankylosing spondylitis or even sarcoidosis. Also, infections such as cat scratch disease, syphilis (learn more about syphilis problem), West Nile virus and others may cause this kind of inflammatory condition that also affects the eyes. Lymphoma is also a kind of cancer that can be found in the eyes, which can create Uveitis. Finally, eye injuries and surgeries may cause this condition too.
  • Symptoms: This condition has a variety of symptoms that may flare up suddenly. There are very few cases in which these symptoms start and progress gradually. Redness and pain in the eyes is one of the most commonly experienced symptoms while decreased vision and sensitivity towards glares of light may also be felt by people suffering from this condition. One may also see dark spots floating around and the vision may get blurred as an effect.
  • Onset of Symptoms: The symptoms usually depend to a great degree on the part of the eye that gets affected by this condition. The Uvea also consists of the iris, the choroid, and the ciliary body even as it enables blood flow to the deep layers of the retina.
  • Medication: In order to treat mild to moderate cases, the ophthalmologist may prescribe anti-inflammatory medication like corticosteroids, as well as bacteria fighting medicines like antibiotics. Also, immunosuppressants can be used to deal with slightly more severe cases.
  • Surgery: Very severe cases will require surgical procedures like a Vitrectomy to remove the vitreous in the eye for better management of the condition. Also, with surgery, the doctor can implant a device that leads to a slow release of medication on a constant basis so that the treatment and prevention of the condition goes on, unhindered. Yet, this method can also come with side effects like the onset of glaucoma.

The severity of the symptoms as well as the extent of the damage will pretty much determine the speed of your recovery as far as this condition is concerned.

Hello,
In summer rather hot weather I mostly face problem with my eyes. There will be frequent itching and irritation...
this is most likely due to dry eye or seasonal eye allergies. cold compresses and splashes of cold drinking water do provide some comfort. using lubricating eye drops with or without anti-allergic treatment will provide long term relief. An eye examination will help identify severity of condition and treatment with eye drops accordingly.
