It would be difficult to guess. Kindly go for a general check up (let the doctor examine you and also check your vitals) and also advise some basic tests (like CBC, ESR, blood sugar, TSH, urine routine etc ). You should maintain a disciplined routine so that you can sleep well and stay focused. Eat simple homemade food (avoid junk food / beverages ). Have more fruits and vegetables everyday. You can update the reports and other details here for correct diagnosis.

Sore Throat - What Causes It?

Sore Throat - What Causes It?

What is Sore Throat?
A sore or dry throat is an unhealthy and painful scratchy feeling inside the throat which is coupled with pain while swallowing and can cause really bad irritation. A sore throat usually resolves on its own because it is a mild health problem.

Causes of Sore Throat-
A sore throat is caused by many important risk factors. Let us have a look at some of them:

  • Viral infection: It is the most common cause of a sore throat and several viruses are present which can result in a sore throat of many intensities.
  • Toxins like cigarettes, smoke or pollution can also lead to an acute sore throat because of the unhealthy chemicals present in these things.
  • A bad injury or infection in the throat can lead to a chronic sore throat. Sometimes when people should loudly for long periods also result in a sore throat because the tissues burn away of tear apart.
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease also causes a sore throat when the acid from the stomach retreats back to the esophageal tract.
  • The development of cancer cells or tumor results in a sore throat and blocks the entire throat tract.

Treating a Sore Throat:
Sore throats are easily curable and sometimes they tend to go away on their own. Let us have a close look at the remedies:

  1. Gargling with warm salt-water will hell you to get rid of sore throat because saltwater helps to wash away the viruses and germs.
  2. Honey mixed in tea is an excellent detoxifier and helps your body and throat to get rid of the unnecessary foreign objects stuck in the tract.
  3. Consuming fenugreek also helps in killing the bacterias which are causing the sore throat.
  4. Chamomile tea is a proven relief during throat sores. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant abilities that help the throat to get relief and heal overtime.
  5. Drink warm water or liquids which will constantly keep the throat wet and warm leading to the decline of the bacterias present.
  6. Antibiotics can also be taken for 5-6 days if you think no other remedy is working in the right way. However, try not to give antibiotics to children of young age and stick to home remedies.

I am 35 years old, had a recent sore throat and cold and after that have dried mucus in nose. It bleeds when I try to clear it. Sore throat is better but dried mucus still keeps forming and bleeding. I have used steam inhalation and nasal spray. It helps some. Do I need antibiotics or other medicines.

Hi, mostly, you would not require antibiotics here to cure your issue of dried nasal mucous. Steam inhalation, 2 to 3 times daily, should help. At the same time, I would recommend using a saline nasal spray instead of a regular allopathic one. You may use paediatrics'nasoclear' saline nasal spray 2 to 3 times daily. Do ensure to clean up your nostrils with the saline spray before you go to bed in night. Use a humidifier in the night time and restrict using acs to the extent you can. Should you be taking any anti-histamines/ anti-allergic tab/ syp, that may also contribute to your dried mucous. So, you may stop the anti-allergic medications unless recommended for long term by your physician. Instead, you may take a glass of luke warm water to which a tsp of honey, a pinch of fresh turmeric and 1 - 2 nos of black pepper (crushed) is mixed thoroughly, post dinner at bed time. Cold foods, hot/ spicy drinks/ foods be best avoided. All the very best. Take care.

I am suffering from sinus for last 3-4 years having DNS and multiple polyp causing blocking of my nose however I got treatment in Agra for this but it's repeats regularly, the Dr. are suggested me to operate this but as this is not permanent treatment of this so I want final advice from you should I go for surgery or other one.

BHMS

Of all the possible holistic or alternative treatments available, Chronic Sinusitis stands the best chance of being cured by Homeopathy. This has been my personal first hand experience as a homeopathic doctor as well as the experience of hundreds of patients of sinusitis who got cured by Homeopathy. The Homeopathic treatment of sinusitis is far superior as it does not resort to any strong medicines or antibiotics. The homeopathic medicine for sinusitis is mild and has the additional benefit that it does not cause any side effect at all. In fact, it strengthens the immunity of the patient and helps in fighting other infections also You can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance

My niece is suffering with tonsils so is it better to go through operation and remove it any chance of getting tonsils again after operation? Any diet to be followed after operation.

MBBS Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery, Diploma In Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), DNB - ENT, Allergy Testing
ENT Specialist, Gurgaon
Tonsillectomy is indicated for recurring episodes of acute tonsillitis documented by a doctor. More than 4 episodes in one year needing antibiotics is a good indication for getting the tonsils removed. The surgeon will explain the diet post op.

do you have pain on cheek bones on pressing it? hot fomentation is really helpful in sinus besides drink fluids, such as water or juice. This will help dilute mucous secretions and promote drainage. Avoid beverages that contain caffeine or alcohol, as they can be dehydrating. Drinking alcohol can also worsen the swelling of the lining of the sinuses and nose. Moisturize your sinus cavities. Drape a towel over your head as you breathe in the vapor from a bowl of medium-hot water. Keep the vapor directed toward your face. Or take a hot shower, breathing in the warm, moist air. This will help ease pain and help mucus drain. Apply warm compresses to your face. Place warm, damp towels around your nose, cheeks and eyes to ease facial pain. Rinse out your nasal passages. Use a specially designed squeeze bottle (sinus rinse, others), saline canister or neti pot to rinse your nasal passages. This home remedy, called nasal lavage, can help clear your sinuses. If you make your own rinse, use water that's contaminant-free distilled, sterile, previously boiled and cooled, or filtered using a filter with an absolute pore size of 1 micron or smaller to make up the irrigation solution. Also be sure to rinse the irrigation device after each use with contaminant-free water, and leave open to air-dry. Sleep with your head elevated. This will help your sinuses drain, reducing congestion. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.
