My teeth have lost its whiteness. They have turned yellowish in colour. I brush daily daily using X-TAR toothpaste but there is no change in the colour. Please provide some tips to remove yellowish colour in teeth.

BDS
Dentist, Ghaziabad
If the natural color of your teeth is yellow then only bleaching can help. But depends wether your teeth r suitable for the procedure or not. Secondly if the yellowish stains r present then scaling followed by polishing will sort out your problem.

Drinking a cup of tea everyday is healthy for the teeth and gums as it contains high amounts of flouride and flavonoids which prevent harmful bacteria from sticking to the teeth.

I have serious cavity problem over 8 months. Toothpaste are not working. What should I do?

BDS
Dentist, Ahmedabad
First of all toothpaste don't have any role for the prevention of cavities. And having cavities is not a serious problem at all. Cavities which are not too deep can be excavated and be restored by a dental cement. Cavities that are very deep can be cured by root canal treatment followed by crown ( cap ). For better prevention of cavities , 1- Follow proper brushing technique. 2- Brush twice a day 3-clean your teeth immediately every time after you eat fiid or liquids. 4- Undergo scaling ( cleaning of teeth) at the interval of every 5-6 months. 5- Visit dentist for regular oral cavity check up every 4 months for the early diagnosis and prevention of dental diseases.

My mouth is getting smelly, even after brushing at least twice a day. What could be the possible reasons for it and solution to the problem?

Advanced Aesthetics, BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Hi, There are various reasons of bad breath, like impurities in blood, inefficient digestive system, dry mouth (lack of saliva production), gum disease, cavities, plaque and tartar formation around teeth and gums, kind of diet, improper brushing / cleaning of mouth etc. I would advise you to get a thorough physical and dental examination to rule out the cause of bad breath and to solve it permanently. I am 42 years old with good health but I am facing problem mouth ulcers frequently every month, I do not use to chew any type of tobacco, cigarette or drinks, please suggest me what's the reasons.

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Dear lybrate-user as you said you are having mouth ulcers and you are not eating pan tobacco/smoking. Mouth ulcers develop in your mouth or at the base of your gums. They can make eating, drinking, and talking uncomfortable You can take steps to reduce the occurrence of mouth ulcers. Avoiding foods that irritate your mouth can be helpful. That includes acidic fruits like pineapple, grapefruit, oranges, or lemon, as well as nuts, chips, or anything spicy. Instead, choose whole grains and alkaline (nonacidic) fruits and vegetables. Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet and take a daily multi-vitamin. Using a rinse of saltwater and baking soda placing milk of magnesia on the mouth ulcer covering mouth ulcers with baking soda paste using over-the-counter benzocaine (topical anesthetic) products like Orajel or Anbesol applying ice to canker sores taking nutritional supplements like folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, and zinc these are the precautions and Remember --AVOID HURRY WORRY AND CURRY in life.

BDS

Hello First of all you need to consult a good dentist who can diagnose your problem of tooth over tooth which can be corrected through braces for permanent long term results but again a proper treatment planning is a must which will require even x-rays to be taken. Good luck!

I have yellow marks on teeth How get rid from it? I think its is cause of fluoride mixd water Suggest what should I do?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello. When brushing twice a day and flossing doesn't help improve your yellow teeth, it's time to consider other options. Teeth become yellow due to stains – both deep and surface-level – as well as other causes that sometimes aren't under our control. Although coffee and cigarettes leave stains on your teeth over time, thin tooth enamel also makes teeth look yellow. Tooth enamel is the hard, white surface of your teeth, and underneath it is a pale brown substance called dentin. Thick enamel looks white, but thin enamel allows dentin tones to show through, making teeth look yellow from the outside. Enamel naturally wears thin as people age, but acids from foods and drinks such as sour candies, oranges and soda also thin the enamel by eroding its surface. Saliva neutralizes acid and washes it away, but people suffering from dry mouth miss out on this protective effect. Other causes of yellow teeth include antibiotic use or excessive fluoride intake in young children, which can cause yellow-stained adult teeth later. Treatments for certain conditions can also affect tooth color. For example, head and neck radiation and chemotherapy can cause teeth discoloration. In addition, certain infections in pregnant mothers can cause tooth discoloration in the infant by affecting enamel development. Certain medication, mouth rinses can also causes yellow staining. Preventing Yellow Teeth: Avoiding smoking, coffee and soda helps prevent yellow teeth, or you can get into the habit of drinking those darker beverages through a straw. Drink milk or plain water after eating or drinking something acidic to help reduce the acid's eroding effect. Brushing and flossing also help, and avoiding snacks between meals allows your saliva to dilute the acids in your mouth too. Using over-the-counter whitening agents will also helps. Discolorations are generally responsive to bleaching procedures.

Saving a fallen tooth can be useful. Try to keep it in place while you seek immediate medical attention. If that is not the case, try wrapping the tooth in a piece of plastic or soaking it into milk and call for immediate dental service.

I do permanent filling but do not captured an x-ray my tooth still paining what should I do? Suggest me can I remove the filling or other prevention.

MDS - Periodontics

Permanent filling leads to pain 1. If this pain you r feeling during chewing food or during biting hard please check for any high points on restoration 2. And if it's continously paining please do visit to dentist nearby get xray done and if cavity is approaching upto pulp. Get root canal treatment and prosthetic cap done.

My 5 years old son developed teeth cavities in 4 of them. Do we suggest treatment and necessary refill OR Plan to remove the teeth as anyhow teeth would fall out for fresh new ones to grow. Your suggestions Pls.

BDS

I think you should get a filling done and save the teeth. As early removal of primary or milk teeth may cause improper alignment of permanent teeth.
