Doctor, I am a type 2 diabetic. My Hba1c was 7.9 during October 2016. I was given inj. Lantus and inj. Victoza. My last periods was on November 27 2016. The pregnancy was confirmed on January 7th 2017. Immediately the insulin was changed. During the confirmation the hba1c was 7.3. Now it's 6.7. I am worried whether inj. Victoza have affected the fetus as it was been changed only after I was conceived.

Which is the best condom for anal? Amd which is the best oil to apply on that condom?

MD-Ayurveda, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine & Surgery (BAMS)
Sexologist, Haldwani
Hello- Anus is not supplied by natural lubrication so you need to use a glycerin based long lasting lubrication with condom. You can go for any condom as per your choice, but do not use oil for lubrication, as oil can affect the condoms outer surface and can break it in the mid of sex, leaving you exposed against harmful bacteria and viruses of anus.

Sugarcane Juice (Ganne) ke Juice ke Fayde Aur Nuksaan in Hindi -

Love Junk Food? Did You Know It Can Cause Constipation?

Junk food is nothing but junk with no nutritional value. While it undoubtedly is lip smacking, but costs us our health without we knowing we are falling into an unhealthy trap.

It is somehow wrong to say we don't know what it does to our health, but we just tend to ignore. The junk food that we prefer to eat contains lots of salt, fat and artificial chemicals and now a days, more and more processed foods are finding their way into our refrigerators as they can just be picked up and eaten anytime hunger pangs are felt.

Refined flour, white sugar, cheese, canned juices, frozen foods, cheese laden pizzas and breads are all yummy, but not something that is readily accepted and digested by your stomach. The most common problem they lead to is constipation as digestive organs find it increasingly difficult to digest them.

While it is advisable to stay away from junk foods or at least not have them very frequently, if its consumption has caused you constipation and you'are looking for ways to find relief, here are some quick ayurvedic remedies for you:

  1. Aloe vera: Besides acting as a remedy for minor burns and cuts, aloe vera gel also helps soothe your stomach. It functions as a natural laxative by making your stool softer. Moreover, it aids in protein digestion and makes the muscular structure of your intestines stronger, consequently providing relief from constipation. Have 2 tablespoons of aloe gel in morning by mixing it with your glass of fruit juice, or consume 1 cup of aloe vera juice.
  2. Castor oil: Castor oil is often referred to as a stimulant laxative and is a very useful remedy for constipation. Castor oil enables smooth movement and functioning of the intestines, making it easier for stool to pass. Drink 1 to 2 teaspoons of castor oil on an empty stomach. It takes about 8 hours to show its effect, so decide which time of the day will be suitable for you to consume it.
  3. Coconut Oil and Flaxseed: Coconut oil is a wonderful hydrating agent and eases stools. Flaxseeds help in the elimination of toxins, excess fat and cholesterol from the body. So in one tablespoon of coconut oil, add half a teaspoon of flaxseeds, chew well and eat this in morning.
  4. Baking Powder: Baking powder has an alkalizing effect and eases movement through the bowels. Add a teaspoon to 1/4 cup of warm water and drink it quickly for best results. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Menopause Before 40 - How It Affects Your Body!

Menopause Before 40 - How It Affects Your Body!

During the natural course of events, a women's body starts its reproductive phase with menarche and at about 50 years of age, attains menopause. This is when the reproductive function ceases and the ovaries stop producing the hormone estrogen and progesterone. In some cases, for various reasons including medical, the ovaries stop functioning earlier, and this is medically termed early or premature menopause. Menopause that occurs before 40 years of age is termed premature menopause; it is due to primary ovarian insufficiency and occurs in 1% of the women. If it occurs between 45 to 50 years, it is termed early menopause.

Causes: Normal ageing, family history, genetic disorders, autoimmune disorders, toxins, and surgery are some reasons that could lead to premature menopause.

Effects: Estrogen and progesterone have a lot of beneficial effects on a women's body. Reduction in their levels leads to some of the below changes:

  1. Emotional changes like mood swings, irritability, and in some cases depression, especially in premature menopause.
  2. Irregular cycles before complete cessation of the menstrual cycles.
  3. General mucosal dryness leading to vaginal dryness, dry skin, dry eyes.
  4. There also would be urinary incontinence and reduced sex drive due to reduced hormone levels.
  5. For women who still would want to have children, infertility would be a big cause for concern. This could lead to other emotional issues, worsening the depression.
  6. Osteoporosis - Bones lose their density and get weak and are more prone to fracture.
  7. Cardiovascular health - Post menopause, women are more prone to heart attacks and stroke. Though not fully proven, this is believed to be true as the good role that estrogen plays on blood vessels is negated with menopause.
  8. Accelerated ageing - Menopause leads to accelerated damage of genetic structures, thereby leading to faster ageing. This also leaves a feeling in the women of being less attractive and less desirable.

There is also a good news, that after menopause women are at lesser risk of cancer - especially breast and ovarian.

It is not easy for women to handle premature menopause. The body undergoes some changes much earlier than expected, and it requires a lot of support and caring and comforting to come to terms with it - especially if associated with infertility or chemotherapy for cancer. Emotional issues of not being able to have children and feeling less attractive require frank talks to boost the person's confidence and increase self-worthiness.

It is easier said than done, but one of the key ways to handle premature menopause is an open discussion. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Running VS Walking: Which is Better?

Running VS Walking: Which is Better?

Running vs walking: which is better?
Is it better to walk or run? which burns more calories?

Running and walking are fairly similar concepts; both get you from a to b. How different are they when it comes to weight loss, then? where do the differences between the two forms of exercise lie, and which one holds the title as the better weight loss aid?

Before comparing the two activities head-to-head, it is important to note that both are beneficial. Both running and walking are proven to offer cardiovascular benefits. Both will help promote weight loss, improve your sleep, elevate your mood, boost your energy level, decrease blood pressure and cholesterol levels and decrease the risk of cancer, diabetes.
Another fun fact is that they have been shown to reduce risk of cataracts with age. They are beneficial to bone density and, therefore, bone strength.

Calories burned per 1-mile walk vs 1-mile run for a 156-lb person (around 70.7kg)

Walk calories burned per mile: 88.9
Run calories burned per mile: 112.5

Walk calories burned per minute: 4.78
Run calories burned per minute: 11.25

Walk after-burn per mile: 21.7
Run after-burn per mile: 46.1

Which burns more calories?

Does running burn more calories than walking? well, yes and no.

If you run for 20 minutes or walk for 50 minutes, you end up burning about the same amount of calories. But if you walk for 20 minutes or run for 20 minutes, running will create the biggest calorie deficit.

So if you've got more time, are more prone to injury or simply have an aversion to high-intensity activities, then go with a lower-intensity exercise, such as walking, biking or swimming.
Just remember that the lower your exercise intensity, the lower the calorie expenditure, so how long you exercise becomes more important.

Do keep in mind that everyone's body responds differently to exercise. So even though you and your spouse may both be walking for 45 minutes each day, your results will differ.
This is because the number of calories you expend during exercise depends on your body composition (lean mass vs. Fat mass). The more muscle mass you have, the more calories you will burn. In addition, the type of exercise you do and the muscles that are involved will also dictate the amount of calories used.

What's so great about walking?

Walking has a few benefits that set it apart from running:

Walking is correlated with an even lower risk of high blood pressure, heart disease or diabetes than running
Walking is ideal for joints because it is a low-impact activity
Lower intensity exercise, such as walking (as opposed to running which is high-intensity), burns energy directly from fat stores

Then why bother running?

Now, those are all great benefits, but that does not necessarily mean that they outweigh the benefits of running.

Running stacks up pretty well in comparison:

Running is correlated with a lower bmi and waist circumference than walking
Running burns more calories per hour, making it more time-efficient than walking
Runners controlled their weight better, so they were able to maintain weight loss long-term

Running suppresses the appetite and regulates hunger hormones

Running causes a more lasting metabolism increase even after exercise has ended.

How running and walking match up

So, which is the better exercise?
At the end of the day, that is really a matter of personal decision. The most important factor to consider is that intensity doesn't have a significant impact on weight loss if you are burning the same amount of calories.

Say you do a high intensity workout for a short period of time. You can likely burn the same amount of calories by doing a low intensity workout for a longer time. This means that you don't necessarily have to go for a run to burn the calories, though running will be much more time efficient.

A calorie is a calorie, and the subtle differences between running and walking are unlikely to add up much.

Do You Know about Conversion Disorder?

Do You Know about Conversion Disorder?

Conversion disorder is a psychological disorder in which psychological conflicts get converted into physical symptoms.

The disease is also referred to as a functional neurological symptom disorder. In most cases, this disorder has an impact on your ability to move, your senses, vision, hearing capacity and ability to swallow.

Causative factors

The main cause behind the onset of a conversion disorder is generally a sudden traumatic event (real or imagined). This may also happen due to an emotional conflict or any other mental health disorder, which directly or indirectly affects your brain in an undesirable manner.

Though the exact factors which cause the disease are still unknown, it has been proved by medical researchers that the disorder affects that part of the brain which controls the majority of the senses, muscles, and nerves.

Identification signs

The symptoms of this condition may usually appear immediately after a traumatic event, be it physical or psychological. Some of the most common symptoms of this disorder are listed below.

  • Weakness or paralysis of a body part
  • Loss of body balance
  • Moments of unresponsiveness
  • Abnormal, sudden and abrupt body movements such as tremors
  • Swallowing problems such as lump in the throat

Some of the symptoms of this disorder might also affect the sensory organs, which include:

  • Abnormal numbness of the body
  • Speech related problems or inability to speak (psychological mutism)
  • Vision related problems such as psychological blindness
  • Hearing problems and difficulties
