Scar Revision Surgery: Types and Treatment

Scar Revision Surgery: Types and Treatment

While some scars are negligible, others can mar your beauty. With cosmetic surgery, today, it is easy to remove scars and make them less prominent. Scar revision surgery can range from invasive procedures such as scar excision to non invasive procedures such as cryotherapy, laser therapy and topical silicone therapy. However, none of these have perfect results. The main aim of scar revision surgery is to make the scars blend in as much as possible with the surrounding skin in terms of colour, texture and elevation.

Picking a scar revision procedure is a matter of weighing the pros and cons of each type of procedure and - the cause for dissatisfaction

  • functional limitations of the scar and likelihood of functional impairment after surgery
  • patient's expectations
  • location of the scar
  • quality of skin type and surrounding tissue

Scars are formed due to a number of reasons such as acne, cuts, burns, surgery and infection in a wound. Scars created by an over production of collagen are the most difficult to treat. In most cases, a patient requires multiple surgeries for scar revision.

Some of these surgeries are:

Surgical Excision: This procedure is usually performed on large scars that do not respond to medication. Here the surgeon shaves and cuts down scar tissue to minimize the size of the scar.

Laser Surgery: This is used to smoothen the scars with raised or uneven surfaces. It involves the removal of the top layer of skin and tightening of the layer below it.

Z plasty and W plasty: These surgical treatments aim to reduce the visibility of the scar by repositioning them along the natural lines and creases of the skin. All topics that sent after editing should be considered as approved.

I am loosing my hair can you please suggest me a quick working medicine for that.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
I am loosing my hair can you please suggest me a quick working medicine for that.
Hair fall is a very common phenomenon that plagues millions of people around the globe. Most of you take supplements of vitamin on a regular basis as it aids the build-up of new hair and skin cells. Read on to find out how exactly do the various vitamins help your hair: 1.Vitamin A: This vitamin controls the production of retinoic acid in your hair follicle. It is not only helpful for skin care but stimulates hair growth. It is immensely fruitful in moisturizing your hair and keeping it healthy. Vitamin A is usually found in sweet potatoes, carrots, tuna, lettuce, mango, sweet red peppers, green leafy vegetables and spinach. 2.Vitamin B: Variants of this, such as B12, aid in hair growth by managing stress. Vitamin B is found in fruits such as oranges and papayas, and beans. 3.Vitamin C: This vitamin helps you absorb iron from the food you eat which is an absolute essential for hair growth. It also boosts the synthesis of collagen that is required to repair the damage and sustain the structure of your hair. Fruits such as papayas, guavas, lemons, sweet lime, orange, kiwi, vegetables such as broccoli, yellow bell peppers and leafy vegetables are replete with Vitamin C. 4.Vitamin D: This vitamin rejuvenates the hair cells in order to form new shafts of hair. Vitamin D is found in dairy products, mushrooms, soy milk, tofu, and cheese. Vitamin D is also naturally made by your body when you expose your skin to the sun, and is called the sun-shine vitamin. 5.Vitamin E: This aids in stimulating capillaries and enhancing blood circulation on the scalp. This additionally contributes to hair growth due to its high anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidant content. Certain foods loaded with Vitamin E are pumpkin, broccoli, olive oil, sunflower seeds, almonds, avocado, tofu and spinach. 6.Vitamin B5: It is also known as Panthenol, is a vital ingredient that is used in medicines to regulate hair fall. Foods enriched with Vitamin B5 are sweet potatoes, sunflower seeds, avocados, cheese and mushrooms. Other Ways to Help Hair- We have gone over the vitamins that may be important for the health of your hair. But lifestyle changes can help just as much. Try: 1.Cutting back on gels, blow-drying, and brushing hair when wet 2.Lowering your stress by exercising at least 30 minutes a day 3.Drinking enough water, 6-8 glasses a day Being mindful of the foods and drinks you consume, the products you use, and the way you manage stress, can all help improve the well-being of your hair. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult me.

There is a wart on my side burns .. It's been more than 2 weeks am applying podowart fluid on it.. This liquid has created a wound . now i have stopped applying it. What should i do next?

Fellowship in Cosmetology, MECAMS, MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy
Dermatologist, Bangalore
Podowart application is generally done as an office procedure as the concentration of the solution is strong and there are chances of burns. Now that you have developed wound you have to apply an antibiotic cream like fudic cream or mupirocin ointment daily twice till the wound subsides and then if the wart is still persisting it is better to consult a dermatologist in your area.

Yes you need exfoliation of regular basis to get rid of dead skin. Buy a good loofah or scrubbing gloves. You can use thing along with your regular soap for scrubbing or you can buy a good body scrub from market. Massage olive oil after scrubbing that will lock the moisture.

If there is a deficiency that is restricting your growth, go for regular checkup for b12, iron, iodine copper. Apply cow's fresh butter on the areas. If nothing works, it might be hereditary. Later you can go for hair transplant.

I have blood purify issue due to this problem I am facing lots of white patches on my body. So what should I do?

MD - Dermatology

I have blood purify issue due to this problem I am facing lots of white patches on my body. So what should I do?
White patchs on body can be due to various reasons. It can b hereditary or due to use of some chemical agents, drugs, medication, trauma, contact with allergic agents, autoimmune diseases, age to name a few. It's very important that you take care not to injure your self or that can leave marks. Any suspicious chemical agent such as creams, sprays, deodorants should be avoided. It's imperative to be relaxed or such a condition can worsen. Don't b anxious about anything for everyone faces anxieties and only the relaxed can get above. Diet rich in vitamin c and phytonutrients like anthocyanin namely lemon, orange, gooseberry vil scavenge the free radicals which damage the cells and produce white spots and patchs. If you have autoimmune diseases like pernicious anaemia, thyroiditis, alopecia areata, vitiligo, inflammatory bowel disease, it has to be evaluated and treated and it vil definitely respond to treatment too.
