I have red eyes over 2 days and lil bit headache due to which I can't focus on my study. So what should I do?
If associated with discharge and redness it's probably acute bacterial conjunctivitis. Dont. Worry. Put topical eyedrops toba and flur four times a day and tearsubstitute like genteal four times a day in d affected eye. It would be okay in 3 -4 days. Take care of eye hygiene that you yourself/other family members don't share the clothes and hankie of the affected eye to the normal eye else the normal eye wd also contract the infection. You can wash your eyes twice to thrice but not very frequently as it washes away the tear film which naturally contains imp antibacterial and anti infective elements: red eye has many causes. You have to see if it is associated with blurring of vision, pain, discharge and other complaints. But commonly its allergic or infective in origin ie allergic or infective conjunctivitis. Which has simple treatment protocol. But still its wise to see an ophthalmologist for a thorough slit lamp examination to rule out other differentials for acute red eye. See a doctor iof you are having problem in vision as conjuctivitis doesnt causes decreased vision. Once resolved, get your refraction done too.

Hello lybrate-user. Myopia means short sightedness. A person having myopia has poor vision for distance. There are various options that could be used for myopia: (1) glasses. You could choose to wear glasses. (2) contact lens: they form an alternative to glasses. They are suitable only for certain degrees of myopia and astigmatism. (3) refractive surgery: operations done to remove the refractive error (power) of the eyes are known as refractive surgery. There are certain basic criteria that most patients need to fulfill before they can safely undergo refractive surgery. To enumerate, they are: (1) stability of refraction: the power of the eyes should have become stable for a period of 1.5 years minimum without any change. (2) curvature of the cornea should be tested by a technique which is known as topography. (3) thickness of the cornea should be measured by a test known as pachymetry. The minimum thickness required is 550 microns. (4) dilated retina evaluation: this is one of the most important tests that should be performed by a trained retina specialist. This test helps in detection of any offensive lesion on the central or peripheral retina. In case of any retinal abnormality, these should be treated before undergoing the surgery for number reduction. (5) there should be no pre-existent corneal abnormality. (example: corneal scar, opacity, defect, etc.) another important suggestion is that whenever you go for the assessment (the above mentioned tests), you should discontinue the use of contact lenses at least 4 weeks prior to the assessment. The reason for this being that use of contact lens temporarily alters the contour of the cornea. It takes around 3-4 weeks for the restoration of the original corneal contour after removal of the contact lens. Another important point is that you, as a patient, should be compliant to put post operative medication in your eyes for at least 2 months. There is bound to be some discomfort, watering, foreign body sensation, pain after the surgery in most cases-you should be ready to tolerate that. A leave from work for 7-10 days after the surgery should be generally sufficient. Last but not the least, you should set realistic expectations from this surgery. Though extremely rare, there is a remote possibility that the surgery may need to be repeated. Also, the need for subsequent treatment for the eye may be required. Thus, you should be compliant enough to trust and follow your eye specialist. Take care, regards.

Instead of undergoing blood tests. Why don't you consult a physician or family doctor for your concerns. For weak eyesight you will need to get a comprehensive eye examination done. Most of it will be OK if you follow 4 pillars of good health- good nutritious diet exercise adequate rest n relaxation positive mental attitude.

Your mom seems to have some disease pathology involving back of the eye. Either her retina or optic nerve. Since she has been advised an intra-ocular injection, it is likely she has some disease affecting her retinal blood vessels. The visual recovery depends upon the status of the central retina- known as macula. This is best evaluated by a test called the oct and a retinal or fundus angiography. I will be better able to help if you can share her reports. Also important is to find thee systemic cause in the body which predisposed to the eye disease. It can be hight sugar. Hight blood pressure. High cholesterol or triglycerides in body. Kidney dysfunction etc. A examination by physician is hence also important.

My eye was artificial eye it becomes back side of the eye is blacked and bad smell why? Any problem are not?

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology

My eye was artificial eye it becomes back side of the eye is blacked and bad smell why? Any problem are not?
The cause for blackening and bad smell emanating from the artificial eye is most likely due to poor hygiene of the socket and the prosthesis (artificial eye). Proper hygiene and cleanliness of the prosthesis (artificial eye) as well as the eye socket is of paramount importance. You should clean the prosthesis (artificial eye) daily twice (minimum) with clean water and soap-subsequently allow it to dry completely and then wear it. In the empty socket, you should use antibiotic eye drops or ointments and keep it specifically clean. Currently, it would be a good idea to get it checked up personally by an eye specialist and initiate proper treatment for the same. Doing this would prevent further infection and deterioration of the empty socket as well as your artificial eye. Hope my suggestions helped you. let me know if you require further guidance. Take care, regards. Dr. Chaitanya.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology

I am addicted to mobile phone and my eyes are feeling sick please suggest me how to control usage of mobile.
Hi. I have a few suggestions for you regarding the usage of mobile phones and computers. Follow the rule of" 20" this means that every 20 minutes, take a gap of 20 seconds, blink your eyes actively 20 times and focus at an object which is minimum 20 feet away. This will help in relieving your eyes from the continuous strain that is caused due to staring. Staring at the mobile/ computer continuously causes us to subconsciously blink less than normal. This causes the tear film on the surface of the eye to dry up. The result of this is pain, discomfort, etc. Another suggestions regarding the usage of mobiles/ computers is to maintain a proper posture. The mobile/ computer must be positioned at the same height as your eye level. The neck should not be inadvertently flexed or extended. Roughly, an angle of 90 degrees should be maintained between your upper body and thighs. Likewise, a similar angle (90 degrees) should be maintained between your lower legs and thighs. Also the angle between your hands and arms should be roughly 90 degrees. This is the healthy ergonomic way of sitting while using a computer. Maintenance of proper posture would help in further relieving the symptoms of eye discomfort and pain. All these suggestions may take a while to sink in and imbibe in your routine. Once followed, they are sure to work wonders for you. Hope my suggestions help you. Take care.

Redness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1) allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. (2) infectious conjunctivitis: this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3) foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles (more common with people working in the iron industry) the solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist at the clinic. (4) raised intraocular pressure: this is a condition known as glaucoma. It is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral (occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5) inflammation of the coats of the eyeball. This is known as" uveitis" it is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person.

Lasik is a simple laser procedure which changes the shape of the cornea so that the light rays fall on the retina properly. It is a painless procedure. It is a day care procedure does not require any injections, does not require admission, you can simply resume your duties in 2 days. Cost varies from centre to centre. Side effects are usually limited to dryness of eyes for few months. We can do lasik anytime after age of 18 years. You need to undergo proper prelasik checkup to decide whether lasik is safe for you or not
