Family Dentist Discusses Foods That Promote Good Oral Health

BDS, Diploma in Hospital Administration, Diploma in Pharmacy
Dentist, Delhi
According to dental professionals, the more sugary, starchy foods we consume, the more they feed the plaque-causing bacteria that are present in all of our mouths. This plaque can then harden into tartar, which is the leading cause of tooth decay and gum disease. To prevent plaque and tartar buildup, regular brushing, flossing, and gargling (mouthwash) is imperative. Certain foods can also help improve oral health. Here are a few favorites from your family dentist.

Cheese

Naturally low in sugar and high in calcium, cheese helps strengthen our teeth. It also contains a protein called casein, which may help lower the risk of cavities. More than that, there is compelling evidence that cheese preserves the whiteness of teeth by fortifying the enamel that protects the pearly-white dentin behind it.

Sugar-free gum

When we are not brushing, flossing, or gargling, saliva helps keep our mouths clean. It removes food particles, plaque, and other debris. Chewing gum, as long as it doesn't have sugar in it, stimulates saliva production and helps remove potentially harmful deposits. It is no wonder that the average family dentist recommends chewing sugar-free gum in between meals.

Celery

Once again, chewing anything helps increase the saliva in our mouths, but the foods we choose to chew should not contain sugar, and they should take a long time to chew. Celery meets these requirements. It is also quite fibrous, which means it breaks down into strands that naturally clean our teeth as we chew. We should also mention that celery is one of the few foods that has a negative-calorie effect. In other words, you burn more calories chewing and swallowing it than it contains.

Raw onion

Even if you have a clean mouth, it likely contains hundreds of millions of bacteria at any given time. While not all of them are bad, some attack tooth enamel and cause serious oral issues. Numerous studies have confirmed that raw onions have powerful antibacterial properties. Sure, they may give you bad breath. But a few raw onions on a sandwich or in a salad will also help you control marauding oral bacteria, which may mean fewer trips to your family dentist.

Steak

We're sorry vegetarians, but eating meat does have its benefits. As we mentioned, longer chewing times promote salivation that helps clean our teeth. And few things require more mastication than a big, juicy steak. In fact, chewing steak requires so much effort that it can actually strengthen our jaw muscles and our pearly whites. We should also mention that red meat contains phosphorous, which helps protect tooth enamel and bone.

Cashews

Just like raw onions, cashews contain antimicrobial oils that have been shown to reduce the bad bacteria that leads to tooth decay. Testing has also revealed that the same nut oils may fight the bacteria that causes acne breakouts, making them one of the few family dentist and dermatologist-approved foods.

Soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices should be consumed in a limited quantity because they are acidic in nature. Acidic food or drinks often soften the tooth material which leads to the dissolution of minerals into the tooth enamel, resulting in cavities (holes).

Get it removed, it will involve one small injection of local anesthesia and this will make that area numb. After this tooth removal will be painless. You just need to follow instructions given by dentist and take medications as prescribed.

During root canal a piece of needle is remain in my teeth by dentist. He says me that was not create any problem how ...
It may or may not create a problem depending upon how far your canal was cleaned, position of the broken instrument and the seal aswell. If the tooth is not creating any problem then I would advice you to wait for some time and keep it under observation. If in future any pain or swelling occurs then either the tooth needs extraction or a retreatment.

Hi considering your age, it is possible that your wisdom tooth may be erupting. Wisdom teeth can erupt anywhere between the age of 17 years and the mid-20s. It is usually accompanied by pain, sensitivity, and discomfort in chewing food. For transient relief, you can go for pain killers and any antibacterial mouthwash, to keep the area clean, which may be difficult to clean otherwise with a toothbrush. Permanent treatment usually involves either removal of the gum tissue covering the wisdom tooth (if it is present in your case), or extraction of the tooth. However, in case there is no wisdom tooth erupting, there may be a deep cavity in one of your backside teeth, in which pus has formed, leading to swelling. In that case, rct of the concerned tooth will be required. I suggest that you consult me privately on lybrate. In private/video consultation, looking at the exact condition, I will be in a better position to solve your query, and prescribe appropriate medication.

Advanced Aesthetics, BDS

Hi, there are various reasons of bad breath, like impurities in blood, inefficient digestive system, dry mouth (lack of saliva production), gum disease, cavities, plaque and tartar formation around teeth and gums, kind of diet, improper brushing / cleaning of mouth etc. I would advise you to get a thorough physical and dental examination to rule out the cause of bad breath and to solve it permanently.

Adult orthodontics is also successful nowadays. But your teeth should be firm and should not have any gingival problem for braces treatment.

I am 21 year male, i've sensitivity problem in my teeth! I can't even drink normal water! what should I do?

BDS

You can try following tips- -brush and floss regularly. Use proper brushing and flossing techniques to thoroughly clean all parts of your teeth and mouth. -use a soft-bristled toothbrush. Brush gently and carefully around the gum line so you don? t remove gum tissue. -use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth. Several brands are available. Regular use should make teeth less sensitive. You may need to try several brands to find the product that works best for you. Another tip: spread a thin layer on the exposed tooth roots with your finger or a q-tip before you go to bed. Use a fluoridated toothpaste, not a tartar control one. -avoid lots of highly acidic foods and drinks. -use fluoridated dental products. Using a fluoridated mouth rinse daily can decrease sensitivity. -don? t grind your teeth. Use a mouth guard at night. -see your dentist every 6 months (or sooner, depending on your condition). If you still have discomfort, talk to your dentist. There may be a procedure that can help. He might recommend: -white fillings (bonding) to cover exposed root surfaces -fluoride varnishes applied to the exposed root surface -dentin sealers applied to the exposed root surface.

The type of treatment you have for toothache will depend on the cause of the pain, so your dentist will examine your mouth and may carry out an X-ray to try to identify the problem. • If your toothache is caused by tooth decay, your dentist will remove the decayed area and replace it with a filling. • If your toothache is caused by a loose or broken filling, the filling will be taken out, any decay will be removed and a new filling put in place. • If the pulp inside your tooth is infected, you may need root canal treatment. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and then inserting a special type of filling to seal the tooth and prevent re-infection. • If your toothache can't be treated using these methods, or if your tooth is impacted (wedged between another tooth and your jaw), it may need to be removed.

How I can protect my teeth for long life, which toothpaste is better. Please help me.
Dear you can protect your teeth by keeping good oral hygiene. Doing regular brushing of teeth. Visiting dental surgeon every six months. Get a well planned scaling and polishing procedure will remove plaque and leave your teeth feeling nice and smooth. This will also prevent bacteria sticking to them (which they are able to on teeth with a rough surface) which can lead to the build up of tartar. And, it will help to prevent gum disease, and keep teeth healthy. All paste are good. Crest fresh mint is a good tooth paste.

Its been belief that ulcers and. Bad breath are cured definitely by medicines. But main problem lies in regular day to day activities. Maintain your oral hygeine. Use mouthwash daily for 1 week od. If more use betadiene gargle but doing these is not enough you have to take proper diet sleep properly at proper time and avoid stress.
