I am a 18 years old male and have dust allergy for last 1 year. What should I do?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Is your dust allergy is severe? dust allergies are caused by many substances like pollen, mites, wood etc. Many lifesyle changes can help: avoid using galichas\carpeting instead go for hardwood or vinyl\ tiles floors. Vacuum upholstered furniture such as sofas. Wood, leather, plaster, or metal furniture is better for dust allergies. Replace drapes with roll-up window shades. If you must have curtains, wash them in hot water each season. Get rid of stuffed animals, stuffed furnitures, soft toys, and other dust collectors. Once you get the allergy then it can be cured by use of certain medications which I may prescribe. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

Is surgery is only way to treat nasal septum deviation as my medical exam for job is due. Will that be a issue?

MS - ENT
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Imphal
If we talk about nasal septal deviation, probably you will find it in 90% of the general population or may be more. Surgery is required only when the deviation is causing the problem like nasal blockage on the side of deviation, frequent nasal bleed, chronic headache or sinusitis. If you have those symptoms, its advisable for surgery or else not required.

What is the symptom of malaria.

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician,
What is the symptom of malaria.
Malaria is a life-threatening disease transmitted through bite of anopheles mosquito infected with a plasmodium parasite. The parasites travel to the liver, where they mature and infect red blood cells. Symptoms of malaria develop within 1-4 weeks following the infection. Like: high fever with shaking chills profuse sweating headache nausea/vomiting diarrhea/bloody stools anemia muscle pain seizures coma dragging heavy sensation in abdomen (enlarged spleen). Symptoms may appear in cycles. Episodes of symptoms may occur every 48 hours in infection with p. Vivax or p. Ovale. This cycle of symptoms is also one of the major signs that you are infected with malaria.

Hi Diabetes patient can go for gym or not.?

JUNIOR RESIDENT OF DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE, m.b.b.s
General Physician,
Yes. Moderate cardio will be preffered. But you have to have a close look on your diabetic profile like fasting glucose and hba1c level. This is only indicated if you are type2 diabetic patient. In case of type 1 or early onset it is discouraged. Diet and medications should be adjusted as per your diabetic profile. Heavy lifting work is always discouraged as it may precipitate hypoglycemic attacks. Visit nearest doctor for screening your profile and diet plan.

Can I eat rice and dal? I am suffering from jaundice! Nd also tell me do's and don't!

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
You can eat rice and dal. All fatty foods must be strictly restricted for ninety days and while it seems an impossible task, you can make small dietary changes like switching to skimmed milk and saying no to bakery food. Arrowroot and glucose biscuits may be eaten occasionally. Eggs can be introduced slowly once the recovery process reaches a stabilize condition. But, have them only after consulting your doctor. Apart from fats, liver metabolizes breakdown products of protein metabolism, as well. Since a damaged liver is unable to perform such functions, you have to be careful about protein intake. Then again, proteins are necessary to heal damaged cells. So, a moderate intake of protein is recommended. It can be in the form of 3-4 cups of skimmed milk, or curd, or a diluted porridge. All beans, peas and pulses are should be avoided. To make the body energy efficient, the main focus should be on having ample amounts of carbohydrates. Rice or soft wheat bread may be consumed at meals. Plenty of oil-free cooked vegetables like potato, carrot, and cauliflower must also be eaten, because there is a special requisite for vitamin b and c for a healthy recovery. Do not opt for large meals. Small frequent meals are advisable. Snack on light biscuits, bread and jam or honey and adequate quantity of fruits such as banana. Even dried fruits like dates or raisins, are not bad choices. Thinned vegetable soups, custards, buttermilk, and cold milk shakes can also be taken in-between the meals. In case there is a lot of vomiting, the body loses a significant amount of sodium and potassium. A moderate amount of salt can be used to compensate the deficiency.
