Treated cold lastts for one week Unreated cold lasts for three days anyhow nothing like prevention. whenever u get cold think for the cause, whether some thing went wroung such as exposure to cold weather, had icecreem,or some thing u have taken for which u are allergic to,or smelt some thing by which u started sneezing or u never washed your face when you come from outside,or u never take enough water ie;3to 4 liters in 24 hours. If u take all these into consideration Iam sure u woud'nt suuffer from it now u developed secondary infection better to see a doctor to get ridoff the suffering. try saline gargle 3 times daily, along with above methods and see how it goes.

You need to drink lukewarm water. Do saline gargles in morning and evening. Drink ginger, tulsi, clove, black pepper water. Put cotton in your ear. Drink turmeric milk. Check if this pain is associated with fever or not if yes then go for blood and sputum test.

Hello doctor my name hardik. My age Is about 25 and I am a asthmatic patient. I want to ask you question regarding my medicine. I am taking a medicine related to asthma the medicine name is asthalin rotacaps capsules, as many of says that dnt take this medicine much because it causes to your health. I am young now so according to you what should I do. Is this medicine is to dangerous for health. Any other medicine that I can take.

PGP In Diabetologist, Fellowship in non-invasive Cardiology, MD - Medicine, MBBS
Endocrinologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user, asthalin inhaler and rotacaps are inhalational beta agonists, one of the mainstay of asthma management besides bronchodilators and steroids. It may cause increased heart rate and palpitation in some patients, but in my opinion is not at all dangerous, as hundreds of my patients are using it without any trouble. But, if you have some queries, please contact your physician for more details.

Please try to avoid exposure to smoke, dusts and air pollution as much as possible. A nutritive diet rich in vitamins & minerals including anti-oxidants is very important to support immune system. I would also suggest you regular breathing exercises which help you in a long run.

There can be various causes for dry cough, Asthma, sinusitis and acid reflux disorders are the three most common ones. Nothing can be said on this without proper history and examination. Visit an Otorhinolaryngologist today for evaluation and Pulmonary medicine evaluation. Even some drugs and irritants can cause these problems.

I have been having intentional cough to clear mucus from my throat for months which was always clear. From 3-4 days it has changed its colour to pale yellow in mornings and sometimes mucus deposited inside my nose also turns up to be pale yellow. What can be the cause?

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
The mucus gets accumulated and gets infected. Yellow or green mucus means there is now bacterial infection in the mucus secretions.

My wife has been coughing for the last more than two weeks, dry , have tested TB,Hiv all negative. She is not allergic and also have any other ailments. Her wt.remains static at 62 kgs. Ht. 5ft 5 inch age 44. Is it acid reflux? kindly advice .

FCCP (USA), MD - Pulmonary Medicine
Pulmonologist, Indore
Acid reflux can cause cough but will have additional symptoms of burning sensation in upper abdomen and chest. If this occurred after cold then it is post viral syndrome and needs inhaled medication. Other possibilities to be ruled out is atypical pneumonia, asthma, post nasal drip, any cardiac problem etc. Please visit chest specialist for proper diagnosis. Best wishes

I am suffering from dry cough from the Last 2 weeks and I have chest pain whenever I cough hard. Can you suggest what should be done?

DNB (Respiratory Diseases), MD - Tuberculosis & Respiratory Diseases / Pulmonary Medicine, Diploma in Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases (DTCD)
Allergist/Immunologist, Thrissur
Cough at your age which is dry 95% of cases is either due to viral fever which sometimes affect your upper airways or throat or nose or due to allergic cough as you are an allergic person or you have developed what we call post viral infection allergic bronchitis. Both will go away on its own. You cough with your chest muscles and they under go sprain with constant cough. To suppress your cough any cough suppressant across the counter is as good as natural remedies like throat lozenges; warm saline gargle, etc. Do not smoke. For you chest pain hot water bath and hot fomentation is as good as paracetamol tablet. Doing nothing for your viral fever induced cough is also ok. But for allergic cough consult if it persists for a few weeks. If cough is bothersome do consult to rule out any 5% major problem and also for your peace of mind. You should be ok.
