Hello friends,

I am Dr Amit Luthra. I am here to talk about certain anti-aging procedures which we are doing in our clinic. We do Botox and fillers for aging skin and we also use machines to reverse the aging changes like ulthera, exilis elite and other procedures like peels and even for that matter a little bit of laser rejuvenation. So when we talk about ageing skin we are talking about skin which has aged because the person is aging normally plus there is some photo aging meaning aging happening because of sun exposure. So lot of times we get people who are worried about their wrinkles, they are worried about the sagging skin, about the folds which are happening on the face. So what we do at our clinic is we analyse the skin, we have a special system where we analyse how much aging has happened and once we come to a conclusion we start doing procedures for them. So there are two things that we normally to in practice which are very common.

We do Botox for the dynamic wrinkles which means the wrinkles which happen when a person uses the muscle. So these are most commonly seen on the frown area or the fore and the forehead area and even the crows feet area. So these are the commonest indications that we do the Botox for. Sometimes we use Botox to thin down a face or contour the face, so we use it in the lower jaw area to make a face thin. We also use it in the neck area to give you or rather give you a smooth neck without any lines. As it comes to fillers, fillerses are used to kind of pull-up your face specially the cheeks which are sagging. We also use fillers in the under eye area to give you a rejuvenated look. We use fillers to contour your nose, contour the chin or augment the chin and wonderfully well it is used in the lip area to give you a good, sexy looking lips. These are the indications where we have been using Botox and fillers.

Sometimes we do have patients who are not very keen on doing injectables and in those patients we use machines like fractional resurfacing to give them a smooth texture and some changes which can help them age better. We also use a machine called ulthera which is a high focused ultrasound to build up collagen in the skin of the patients to give them a tighter skin which takes some time to come in as the results take around 3-6 months to come in. All these procedures that we do in practice are done under the supervision of by the doctor so that you don't have any adverse events. These procedures that we do in practice are all FDA approved and these are done according to the copybook style or as it is mentioned in the study books or in the literature. So what you get at our clinic are wonderful results or amazing results and we also stress on the fact that the prices are also affordable. So our main motto is that the patient or the client should always be satisfied with with all the procedures that we do in our clinic.

Thank you.

Oily Skin - How To Treat It?

MBBS, DNB
Dermatologist, Delhi
Oily Skin - How To Treat It?

Oily skin is a result of overactive sebaceous glands that produce excessive oil, thus giving the skin its characteristic greasy look. Oily skin is usually caused by a number of factors such as stress, food, genetics and hormonal changes in the body. Blackheads, whiteheads and acne are some complications that can result from skin.

It is important to take care of oily skin to prevent breakouts. Mentioned below are 10 tips to assist you in your skincare regimen:

1. Use warm water to clean your skin
Cleaning your face with warm water opens up the pores and clears the dirt from; thus removing the layer of oil on the face more effectively than cold water.

2. Face masks
You may use face masks such as sandalwood or fuller earth to get rid of the excessive oil on the skin. In addition to removing oil, it also cleans and removes impurities from the skin.3. Limit scrubbing
You should restrict exfoliating your face 2-3 times a week as too much exfoliation may result in excessive oil production. Over scrubbing may cause the skin to lose its natural oils and turn dry.

4. Use a toner
You may apply toner on the skin regularly for its astringent properties that help in cooling and soothing the skin. It also reduces pore size which thus decreases oil production.

5. Diet
Diet plays an important role in the health of your skin, so consuming too many oily and fried foods can increase the chances of getting acne and pimples on your skin. Eat more vegetables and fruits to keep your skin healthy.

6. Stay hydrated
Drinking water regularly helps in replenishing the lost fluids from your body and it also improves overall body health.

7. Use medicated pads
To freshen up your face, use wet tissues or medicated pads to soak up the oil which shall help in freshening up your face.

8. Choose makeup wisely
It is not recommended to use heavy makeup if you have an oily skin. Instead use water based makeup that is light and oily skin friendly.

Fungal Nail Infection - How To Treat It?

Fungal Nail Infection - How To Treat It?

Fungal infections in nails are caused by an overgrowth of the fungi in your nails. When the growth of fungus happens on the fingernails or toenails, it is known as onychomycosis or tineaunguium.

Here are the probable causes of why you might get a fungal nail infection:

Causes

1.        Diabetes
2.        Problems in your circulatory system
3.        Age
4.        Artificial nails
5.        Swim in public pools
6.        Nail injuries
7.        Skin injuries surrounding the nail
8.        Fingers or toes which have been moist for an extended period of time
9.        Immune system problems
10.        Wearing shoes which have toes enclosed

It is also worth note that fungal infections happen much more frequently in your toenail as compared to your fingernail. This is because of two main reasons. The first reason is that fungi can grow very easily on your toenails because of the position. Your shoes are dark, warm and moist and therefore, perfect for the growth of fungi. The second reason for more fungal infections on your toe nails as compared to your fingernails is because toes have less blood flow than fingers, thus making it harder for the immune system to fight off the infection.

Symptoms

Fungal infections in your nails are one of the easier infections to diagnose. This is because there are several symptoms which indicate you have this condition. Here are those symptoms.

1.        Scaling underneath your skin
2.        White or yellow streaks on your nails
3.        Corners of the nail may crumble
4.        Flaky surface of the nail
5.        Yellow spots at the bottom of the nails
6.        Loss of nail
7.        A nail breaking off from the rest of the nails
8.        An odor from the nail
9.        Brittle or thick nails

Pityriasis Rosea - What Can Cause It?

Pityriasis Rosea - What Can Cause It?

Pityriasis rosea is a rash that appears on your skin most commonly between the ages of 10 and 35. It is usually harmless and a pretty common condition. It is also worth noting that pityriasis rosea does not spread from person to person.

Causes

The exact causes of pityriasis rosea have not been identified yet. Some doctors claim that it is caused by a virus, bacteria or fungus while others claim that it is caused by an allergic reaction.

Symptoms

There is a fair number of warning signs of the pityriasis rosea rash. The symptoms may differ depending on the patient's general health condition, the climate and the season.

1.        Size and appearance at first

When the rash first appears, it will have a raised border. It will be scaly and have pink patch which will either be round or oval. 2 to 10 cm is the usual size of the patch.

2.        Few days or weeks later
1 or 2 cm is the size of many patches on the abdomen, back, chest, legs and arms which now appear. They sometimes spread to the neck but rarely spread to the face.

3.        Back patches
The patches on the back are slightly different from the rest. They tend to be angled and look somewhat like a Christmas tree. Sometimes it is itchy but it goes away within 6 to 8 weeks.

Treatment

1.        Apply anti-allergic powder or wash the body with cold water to prevent the rash and itching from worsening
2.        Eat a lot of oatmeal and try bath products which have oatmeal in them
3.        Hydrocortisone cream is very good for the itchy areas on your body. However, do not use these on the face or pubic areas.
4.        Use antihistamines but do not give it to your child without checking with the doctor first.
5.        Apply moisturizer regularly
6.        Use gentle soaps and avoid deodorant soaps as these worsen the rash and the itching

Skin Itching - How To Handle It?

MBBS, DNB
Dermatologist, Delhi
Skin Itching - How To Handle It?

Skin irritants are everywhere. Even in your house, there is practically no place where there are no skin irritants. Laundry detergents, air fresheners and floor polishes are just a few factors that cause skin itching. The reason why this happens is because products like air fresheners and floor polishes take away essential oils and water from the skin which leads to dryness and irritation. This type of dry, itchy skin can also progress to skin conditions like eczema.

Here are some ways you can stop your skin from becoming dry and itchy:

1.  Wear gloves
The ideal thing to do would be to wear soft, thin cotton gloves and only wear rubber gloves on top of that. Do not touch a bucket or sponge without it. Even if you cannot wear soft, thin cotton gloves underneath, at least wear the rubber gloves as this protects your hands from irritants.

2. Rinse after swimming
Chlorine is one of the principal causes of itchiness in your skin. It is absolutely essential that once you have finished swimming you rinse your body with water and a little soap. Even more importantly, use a moisturizer with glycerin in it, as this will keep the moisture trapped inside. Glycerin is particularly good at holding on to moisture.

3. Petroleum jelly
Petroleum jelly has been proven to reduce the chances of dry, itchy skin because it contains only one ingredient. This one-ingredient formula is especially great when it is applied to sensitive skin. The reason why one ingredient is better than a moisturizer with many chemicals is because a one ingredient formula is gentler and therefore creates a protective barrier against irritants.

4. Oatmeal baths
For this kind of treatment, grind oatmeal in a blender and then sprinkle it in your bath water. Oatmeal has an anti-inflammatory substance known as avenanthramides which decreases itching and redness of the skin.

5. Cleanliness
This is perhaps the most important tip which can be given. If you do not regularly clean your floors or wash your bed sheets in hot water than you are at a high risk of getting mites and these are one of the most common irritants of your skin.
