Lybrate-user, usually tsh level between 6 to 9.9 mu/l is considered as sub-clinincal hypothyroidism and no treatment is advocated. But sometimes if symptomsof hypothyroidism are seen and are troublesome and if t4 level is low, then treatment may be given. Since you have no major issues, then there is no need for treatment. You should avoid soy beans, soy containing products, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radish, mustard, peanuts and coffee. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Use whole grain flour for chapati and roti. Avoid maida and bakery items. Also high fat milk products.

How should I change my diet to reduce high uric acid level in blood without taking medicine.

MBBS, M.MED, DFM, FID, CCEBDM, ACMDC, CCMTD
Diabetologist, Hyderabad
How should I change my diet to reduce high uric acid level in blood without taking medicine.
Lower fat intake as excess fat reduces normal excretion of uric acid Liberal fluid intake to keep the urine dilute Restriction or elimination of alcohol What to avoid Shell fishes, red meat, mince meat, meat extracts, organ meats, fishes (sardine, roe, makeral). Whole pulses (masur, rajmah, chana, chole, etc.). Other dals are allowed Vegetables and fruits - green peas, spinach, french beans, brinjal, cauliflower, mushroom, chickoo, custard apple Diet rules Use less salt while cooking. Avoid adding salt while cooking rice or in chapatti dough Use adjuncts like tomato, vinegar, cocum, amchur, lime juice, curd, pepper powder to make the food cooked with less salt palatable Remove the salt shaker from the table Avoid salted nuts/ biscuits, papads, pickles, chutneys Avoid excess consumption of processed and preserved foods; eg. Bakery products Caution - Do not overdo on salt substitutes as that might cause an electrolyte imbalance Recommended foods Fresh cherries, strawberries, blueberries and other red-blue berries Bananas Celery Tomatoes Vegetables including cabbage and parsley Foods high in bromelain (pineapple) Foods high in vitamin C (red cabbage, red bell peppers, tangerines, mandarins, oranges, potatoes) Low-fat dairy products Complex carbohydrates (breads, cereals) Chocolate, cocoa Coffee, tea Although Purines (organic compounds, which create uric acid breakdown in the body) are found in vegetable sources, they don't cause the same amount of uric acid buildup in the body that meat sources do. In fact, fresh fruits and vegetables reduce acid levels in the body and it is often advised to avoid red meats, organ meats and highly processed foods. Fresh fruits and vegetables are encouraged so the patient can increase alkalinity in the blood. Therefore, rather than attempting to find foods that are free of purines and uric acid, it's important to know how to increase the body's alkalinity, which naturally reduces the body's acidity. Fresh, non-processed foods, such as fruits and vegetables, are the way to go.

Is Dabur Janam Ghunti is safe for one month old infant ?
If yes for how much time it should be continued ?
For one month old baby it is not needed though there is no harm in using, dabur janma ghunti, an ayurvedic medicine, plays a dual role in all-round growth of infants. Dabur janma ghunti acts as an effective remedy for stomach ailments arising out of teething such as flatulence, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting etc. It also helps in the growth process by expelling intestinal worms and toning up the digestive system of the infant with the goodness of traditional ayurvedic ingredients like anjeer, kishmish, ajwain etc.

How to decrease my weight? I am 24 year old my height is 172 cm and my weight is 92. So how can loss of weight?

Diploma in Gastroenterology, Diploma In Pulmonary Medicine , MSCP, BHMS, SVD( skin and veneral diseases)
Homeopath, Hyderabad
How to decrease my weight? I am 24 year old my height is 172 cm and my weight is 92. So how can loss of weight?
Weight loss tip 1: decide how much weight you need to lose - most people start their weight loss journey by claiming to be xyz kilos overweight. This isn't a healthy way to project or aim for weight loss. Calculate your desired weight against your height by using reliable methods like the bmi, and set a healthy weight loss target. This is often half the battle won. Weight loss tip 2: time management - this is quite often overlooked. Decide which part of your day will be dedicated to exercise, when in the week you will stock up on groceries, and when you will do the cooking - all within your current work and home life routine. If you don't do this now, your days will be rushed and unplanned, and you won't be able to sustain your weight loss efforts. Weight loss tip 3: stock your kitchen - keep your house well-stocked with fruits, vegetables, healthy meats, grains, cereals, spices, and flavourers. Follow our tricks to healthy cooking, cooking vegetables for the week, and low-fat cooking posts to understand how best you can stock your kitchen with healthy and delicious ingredients. All of this will go into helping the next step - cooking healthy meals at home. Weight loss tip 4: eat healthy homecooked meals - whether it's you who's cooking, a family member, or house help, ensure that every one practises healthy cooking methods, and ingredients. Ask any person who's lost weight the healthy way, and you will always hear about how healthy homecooked meals were a big reason behind it. Use less oil, low salt, fresh produce, and you'll start seeing results in no time. Weight loss tip 5: start a cardio + weights workout - a healthy weight loss programme is incomplete without a good exercise routine, and weight training mixed with cardio is the best way to lose weight. Of course, variations and forms exist, but any workout that stresses on muscle tone and increased heart rate will always help you lose weight and keep it off. You can either start a home workout today, or rely on gyms for fitness training. Weight loss tip 6: alter your snacking habits. Set those french fries aside, skip that aerated drink, and ban those unhealthy deep fried samosas. Explore the healthy snack world and you will find several appetisers, party snacks, movie snacks and meal accompaniments that'll satisfy every craving of yours. Weight loss tip 7: have at least one active hobby - it isn't sufficient to rely on just 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Moving from bed to office chair, and back to bed, isn't a healthy way to live. Buy a motion sensor gaming console that lets you enjoy social games with friends and family, plan weekend trips, clean your house once a week, dance, play sports, the list is endless. Get out of the coffee shop and dining table rut, and you'll have fun along with the healthy weight loss weight loss tip 9: drink plenty of water - you've known that your body relies heavily on water for all important bodily functions, and yet you skimp on drinking adequate quantities of water every day. Well, it's time to stop that. Check out some exciting ways to make water interesting and you'll be packing it away in no time. Do not forget to carry a water bottle to your workout, and take a few sips after every 2-3 minutes of exercise. Weight loss tip 10: plan healthy vacations - why go all the way with healthy weight loss, when one tiny vacation will just come along and topple it all? healthy vacations aren't impossible. Take a look at how you can eat smart on a holiday, and then at bodyweight workouts that you can carry with you wherever you go, to understand how to holiday right. Above all, remember that these are lifelong habits that'll help you stay fit forever and not short term weight loss quickfixes.

Please note that it depends on cases to cases for in some cases patient needs some time days-weeks to show eye movements/opening. However I suggest keep in touch with your Doctor for not letting her to slip into Coma. If so then it can take weeks/months to come back from Coma. As of now you still need to keep patience for next 48 hours.

My weight is 49 kg I am 22 years old my height is 163 cm. Is it any problem in healthiness. Please guide me.
Thanks for the query. As per your height , you are underweight. Being underweight could mean that you could have poor stamina and immunity. It is important to know that just eating two heavy meals a day will not fulfill your nutrient needs. Most often we skip meals especially when at work or in college. We start our day on empty stomach but our work or stress or activity is never reduced. This causes weakness, weight loss and lack of energy levels. Food is our source of energy and if you don't eat well as per your needs you are going to get deficient in many nutrients. So, start by eating the right foods at the right time. Eat meals at frequent intervals. Eat a mid meal between each main meal. Avoid junk foods. Include dairy, eggs, nuts, fruits in your meals. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Sleep well.    Exercise at least thrice a week.

10 Facts About Dreams
What Researchers Have Discovered About Dreams

Dreams can be fascinating, exciting, terrifying or just plain weird. Learn more about some of the things that researchers have discovered in these ten facts about dreams

1. Everybody Dreams
Men do it. Women do it. Even babies do it. We all dream, even those of us who claim not to. In fact, researchers have found that people usually have several dreams each night, each one lasting for between 5 to 20 minutes. During a typical lifetime, people spend an average of six years dreaming!

2. But You Forget Most of Your Dreams
According to estimates by dream researcher J. Allan Hobson, as much as 95 percent of all dreams are quickly forgotten shortly after waking. Why are our dreams so difficult to remember? According to one theory, the changes in the brain that occur during sleep do not support the information processing and storage needed for memory formation to take place. Brain scans of sleeping individuals have shown that the frontal lobes, the area that plays a key role in memory formation, are inactive during REM sleep, the stage in which dreaming occurs.

3. Not All Dreams Are In Color
While approximately 80 percent of all dreams are in color, there are a small percentage of people who claim to only dream in black and white. In studies where dreamers have been awakened and asked to select colors from a chart that match those in their dreams, soft pastel colors are those most frequently chosen.

4. Men and Women Dream Differently
Researchers have found a number of differences between men and women when it comes to the content of their dreams. In one study, men reported more instances of dreaming about aggression than women did. According to dream researcher William Domhoff, women tend to have slightly longer dreams that feature more characters. When it comes to the characters that typically appear in dreams, men dream about other men twice as often as they do about women, while women tend to dream about both sexes equally.

5. Animals Probably Dream
Have you ever watched a sleeping dog wag its tail or move its legs while asleep? While it's hard to say for sure whether the animal is truly dreaming, researchers believe that it is likely that animals do indeed dream. Just like humans, animals go through sleep stages that include cycles of REM and NREM sleep. In one study, a gorilla was taught sign language as a means of communication. At one point, the gorilla signed "sleep pictures" possibly indicating the experience of dreaming.

6. You Can Control Your Dreams
A lucid dream is one in which you are aware that you are dreaming even though you are still asleep. During this type of dream, you can often "direct" or control the content of the dream. Approximately half of all people can remember experiencing at least one instance of lucid dreaming, and some individuals are able to have lucid dreams quite frequently.

7. Negative Emotions Are More Common in Dreams
Over a period of more than forty years, researcher Calvin S. Hall collected more than 50,000 dream accounts from college students. These reports were made available to the public during the 1990s by Hall's student William Domhoff. The dream accounts revealed that many emotions are experienced during dreams including joy, happiness and fear. The most common emotion experienced in dreams was anxiety, and negative emotions in general were much more common than positive ones

8. Blind People Dream
While people who lost their eyesight prior to age five usually do not have visual dreams in adulthood, they still dream. Despite the lack of visuals, the dreams of the blind are just as complex and vivid as those of the sighted. Instead of visual sensations, blind individuals' dreams typically include information from the other senses such as sound, touch, taste, hearing and smell.

9. You Are Paralyzed During Your Dreams
REM sleep, the stage of sleep during which dreaming occurs, is characterized by paralysis of the voluntary muscles. Why? The phenomenon is known as REM atonia and prevents you from acting out your dreams while you're asleep. Basically, because motor neurons are not stimulated, your body does not move.

In some cases, this paralysis can even carry over into the waking state for as long as ten minutes, a condition known as sleep paralysis. Have you ever woken up from a terrifying dream only to find yourself unable to move? While the experience can be frightening, experts advise that it is perfectly normal and should last only a few minutes before normal muscle control returns.

10. Many Dreams Are Universal
While dreams are often heavily influenced by our personal experiences, researchers have found that certain themes are very common across different cultures. For example, people from all over the world frequently dream about being chased, being attacked or falling. Other common dream experiences include school events, feeling frozen and unable to move, arriving late, flying and being naked in public.

Sir, since last 2 year I feel pain in my right testicle when I touch the right testicle. I see there it always slightly bigger than leftone. I also feel small lump on upper site of testicle. My penis is always tilted towards left. I shown to urologist he suggested doppler but the doppler report is normal and doctor told me to just support the testicle, but till I have same problem please suggest to get rid from this.

Dear, as your doppler study is normal it rules out varicoele. Now one has to look for other causes like stone in lower half of right ureter which can give referred pain in testis. Secondly one has to consider epididymitis of chronic variety. So, get sonography (kub) and semen test and post the reports here.

I am 32 years old guy working as a area sales manager in a pharma company. From the past 5 to 6 years I am getting a severe pain and inflammation in my testicles. This problem is coming once in a month and disappearing in 3 to 4 days. But it is giving tremendous pain and disturbing my quality of life. My erectile dysfunction is also pathetic. What might be the problem with me. Is there any permanent treatment solution for this.

Gynaecologist, Kolkata
As you are in pharma company, you must know that these two may be interrelated or at least there must be some underlying disease causing the problems. I understand it's very difficult for you to continue job with this pain. For severe testicular pain and inflammation, we need to check it to make sure that it's not torsion (a medical emergency). If it's infection, we should also start vigorous treatment, to save testes. Now, regarding ed, as you know, we have to explore the underlying causes. Often if the cause is treated, you may not need further therapy (like pde5 inhibitors). So, please don't waste time and consult doctor asap.

Ayurvedic Home Remedies For Hair Fall:

Here are 10 best ayurvedic tips for hair growth:

1. Bhringaraj – The king of Herbs:

This herb is also known as king of herbs in ayurveda for hair because it has the property to enhance hair growth. All you need to do is make a paste out of the leaves and apply it on the scalp for some time before washing it off. Some people do not have easy access to this herb, thus, you can grab a pack of dried Bhringraj, steep 5-6 tbsps in warm water and apply the paste for 20 minutes before washing off. Doing this on a regular basis promotes hair growth.

2. The Aromatic Jatamansi:

A common name for this herb in ayurvedic medicines for hair growth is Muskroot or the Indian Spikenard. It has the power to remove blood impurities as well as give a glowing complexion. You can either consume it in the form of capsule (sticking to not more than 6mgs) or applying it directly on the scalp.

3. Methi – Miracle Herb:

Methi is a commonly used herb in our households, an excellent remedy for hair growth. Grind some slightly dry roasted methi, make a paste of it in warm water depending on hair length and keep it on for 20 minutes before washing off.

4. The Indian Goose Berry:

Better known as Amla or Amlaki, this ayurvedic solution for hair fall helps in treating indigestion and purifies the blood. It is also rich in Vitamin C, which solves many hair problems from within. Grab dried /powdered Amla has to be mixed with warm water and used on the scalp to promote thick and black hair. It also imparts colour and solves other problems.

Hi Shakeela Yes mental Illnesses are known to run in families. An individual inherits a susceptibility to a mental illness but doesn't necessarily develop the illness ie the person may or may not develop the illness. Mental Illnesses are caused by a combination of biological factors ( ex. inherited genes from parents... ), environment & psychological factors. Exact cause is not known yet. ALL THE BEST

Dear lybrate-user, please remember that no medication can help reverse alcohol related damage if alcohol use continues. If you stop alcohol use, there is a very good chance that sexual problems will reverse. However, if the use has been very long and in large quantities, it may not be reversible. In any case please do not waste money on fake products that claim to improve sexual health along with continued alcohol use. You might want to get a liver function test (blood test) done to see the extent of damage. Hope that helps!
