I have red eyes for 7 days. What should I do. please tell me simple solution for healthy eyes. Thanks.

I have red eyes for 7 days. What should I do. please tell me simple solution for healthy eyes. Thanks.
Hello, Bloodshot eyes appear red because the vessels at the surface of the white portion of the eye become swollen. Vessels may swell due to: Eye dryness Too much sun exposure Dust or other particles in the eye Allergies Infection Injury Eye infections or inflammation can cause redness as well as possible itching, discharge, pain, or vision problems. Other causes of eye redness include Colds or allergies, Acute glaucoma, Corneal scratches: Injuries caused by sand, dust, or overuse of contact lenses. Sometimes, a bright red spot, called a subconjunctival hemorrhage, will appear on the white of the eye. This often happens after straining or coughing, which causes a broken blood vessel on the surface of the eye. Most often, there is no pain and your vision is normal. It is almost never a serious problem. Because the blood leaks into the conjunctiva, which is clear, you cannot wipe or rinse the blood away. Like a bruise, the red spot will go away within a week or two. Management: - Try to rest your eyes if redness is due to fatigue or eye strain. No other treatment is needed. - Wash your hands, hold clean water in your hand, keep your eyes closer to the water and dip the eyes by blinking the eyelids frequently in the held water in hand. Repeat it for 3-4 times again. - Avoid watching T. V. Working on computer or mobile, reading or frequently keep blinking your eyes to avoid dryness. Take frequent breaks in between. - In case there is itching, use a clean napkin or a tissue to wipe the tears and cleaning the eyelids gently. -Wear an UV-rays protected sunglasses while you are out in sun. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Schwabe’s Belladonna 30 and Euphrasia 30 - both thrice daily for 4 days. Use Euphrasia Eye drops twice daily. Revert back thereafter.

Kindly suggest treatment for eye dryness. I have 8 To 10 Hours works on computer.

Kindly suggest treatment for eye dryness. I have 8 To 10 Hours works on computer.
Dryness is not a disease which you can cure by putting lubricating eye drops for few days, while working on smartphone , computer & watching TV for long time without giving importance to the health of eyes. Number of blinking drastically goes down from around 24 per minute to around 8 per minute while working on computer etc causing severe dryness, blurring of vision, headache & increased blinking to compensate dryness .One who works on smartphone etc will have to change &will have to learn how to work on computer for long time without giving any trouble to eyes .One should look away from computer after every 10 minute & should take rest for 10 minutes after every two hours .Every body knows that to become man from monkey took millions of years according to Darwin theory & how you expect that our eyes will adjust to computer in 20 yrs, nature takes its own time, computer development is just 20 yrs history, so you will have to take the help of lubricating eye drops to neutralise the effect of computer etc.you should use Systane ultra eye drops 5-6 times daily & genteal gel once at bed time in night.

How can I improve my eyesight. As I am daily using computer for at least 6 hours, my eyes has pain also.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology

How can I improve my eyesight. As I am daily using computer for at least 6 hours, my eyes has pain also.
Hi. Let me enumerate the diet necessary for healthy eyes. (1) green leafy vegetables including spinach, sprouts, cabbage, beetroot. (2) fruits-blue-berries, black-berries, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit, grapes, pineapple, pomegranate, grapes, guava. (3) dry-fruits: almonds, walnuts, apricots, dates. (4) cereals: oats, barley, millets. (5) drink a cup of green tea daily. (6) drink a glass of milk daily. I have a few suggestions for you regarding the usage of computers, mobile phones and books. Follow the rule of" 20" this means that every 20 minutes, take a gap of 20 seconds, blink your eyes actively 20 times and focus at an object which is minimum 20 feet away. This will help in relieving your eyes from the continuous strain that is caused due to staring. Staring at the computer continuously causes us to subconsciously blink less than normal. This causes the tear film on the surface of the eye to dry up. The result of this is pain, discomfort, etc. Another suggestions regarding the usage of computers is to maintain a proper posture. The computer must be positioned at the same height as your eye level. The neck should not be inadvertently flexed or extended. Roughly, an angle of 90 degrees should be maintained between your upper body and thighs. Likewise, a similar angle (90 degrees) should be maintained between your lower legs and thighs. Also the angle between your hands and arms should be roughly 90 degrees. This is the healthy ergonomic way of sitting while using a computer. Maintenance of proper posture would help in further relieving the symptoms of eye discomfort and pain. All these suggestions may take a while to sink in and imbibe in your routine. Once followed, they are sure to work wonders for you. Hope my suggestions help you. Take care. Cheers.

I have a deep cut on the sclera. Is there any threat to my vision and do I need to undergo surgery?

MBBS, MS - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
It should be evaluated by ophthalmologist to know whether it is really deep or not. If it is, it might hamper your vision and you may require minor surgery to close the wound (again depending on depth of wound).

Refractive Error - Why You May Need Glasses?

M.S. Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Vadodara
Refractive Error - Why You May Need Glasses?

There is a great deal of confusion, wrong beliefs and stigma attached to having or using glasses.

Why does one need to use glasses?

Simply to make the rays from objects of interest fall on Retina so that the objects are clearly seen. If eyes are long (myopia), the focus may fall in front of the retina causing blurred image. Appropriate minus glasses will bring the focus on the retina. If eyes are short (hypermetropia), the focus may fall behind the retina. Appropriate plus lenses bring the focus back on the retina. If eye curvatures are more or less (astigmatism), appropriate cylindrical glasses will help focus the image on the retina.

Having long, short or differently curved eyes is a natural variation like some people are long, some are short, some are pear-shaped, some are hour glass, etc.

So don't worry if you have glasses. In most people, it is not a disease or is not indicative of any eye "weakness" as most people tend to believe. Roughly about 50% of people have glasses and they are as normal as the other 50% who may not have glasses. Best of best people in the world from all the fields have glasses like in sports- Clive Lloyd, Anil Kumble, in show-biz Aishwariya rai, Sushmita Sen, top scholars, top politicians, top doctors and the list is long.

Simply use glasses or contact lenses as you wish and as suitable to your lifestyle, work, age. You may also undergo LASIK after establishing real need and safety for you. But don't think you are curing anything because, in the first place, this is not a disease. Choosing one of these options is a customized process, best done with the help of your trusted doctor and not by what your friend, neighbour or advertisements say. Each of these options - glasses, lenses, surgery- has a deep science which is dynamic.

It is also good to get your glasses assessed by an Eye Doctor (Ophthalmologist) or a qualified Optometrist. You should not rely on just any autorefractor by an untrained optician. Optician's job is to make glasses, not assess them.
